Amazing restaurant! I go here for dates with my boyfriend all the time and we love it there. The skinny Asian man that works there is our favorite. He is so sweet and soft-spoken and just all around adorable! He memorizes my order and my allergies so whenever I walk in I don’t even have to say a word and he’s already on his way to have my food made. Our go-to date spot. Their food is so tasty and it’s a little pricey but the quality definitely makes it worth it. I love them.

Very nice people working there but I found my pad prik king to be a little too salty.

The curries are excellent(pretty much all of them). They are really really good at those. Their pad Thai leaves much to be desired. If they chef/owners read this review, I am suggesting that they make it a LOT less sour and sweet, and add in more spice and salt and umami. Right now the pad Thai has no flavor, and it’s hard for me to find good pad Thai(there is a newish Phở place in New Haven that comes close).

Great service(5 stars), okay food(3 stars). We were visiting Wesleyan and stopped in for lunch on a weekday. Hailing from Los Angeles and being a huge fan of Thai food in general, I wasn’t so impressed by the food(soggy noodles, and the dishes were oily in general) but the service was great and the portions were generous. The prices were also very reasonable. Taking into consideration that Middletown is not LA or NYC I would give it four stars.

Ordered delivery and after two hours we are still waiting. We have called multiple times and they have told us 10 more minutes. Dissatisfied with the service.

Fine ingredients, great flavor, lovely service. I was a little skeptical about coming here because they don’t use fish sauce which is a BIG flavor in Thai food and a condiment I burn through in my home cooking. I can assure you, they have managed to duplicate the flavor, and consequently vegan and vegs people can eat here freely. The price are higher than most Thai places when comparing things like a drunken noodle or a Curry, but, the quality of ingredients justifies this. I’ll fame it this way, if you were at your standard Thai place and ordered a curry, and the waitress said«would you like to pay an extra three dollars to get our fresh veggie boost?» I would say yes! So IMO the higher prices are justified. Panang Curry was loaded with fresh broccoli and snow peas, carrot, squash and so much layered flavor. Lime leaf was such a lovely tangy touch, and at first I didn’t sense much heat, but it creeped up on me by the end. I think I’d order it hotter next time. Loved the rice which was presented as a star. Drunken noodle was flavorful and comforting. The star of the meal was green papaya salad, super spicy an flavorful. I think next time I’d emphasize that a higher heat level is needed, overall I appreciate the fresh ingredient and attention to detail.

Very nice and enjoyable. Good food and good service. My date got the drunken noodles– I wish I had. We did share, but his was better than mine!

Tom and I went there on Chistmas day and were the only ones there for lunch. Adorable please, nice people and great service. We split the spring roles, the presentation was nice, cut on the bias and served on a rectangle plate. I had the drunken noodles and even though I asked for mild it did leave my lips tingling, but in a good way. Tom and the pork lob(s.p.) also great and his rice came in a small individual woven bamboo steamer. Wish they served beer, but we will definately come back and highly recommend to others.

Typhoon has been on my to do list for a long time. Whenever I want Thai, I always default to Thai Gardens. So it was time we finally went to Typhoon to see how they compared. We went in and we were seated immediately. They offer BYOB, and the corkage fee is only $ 1 per person. I wasn’t drinking and they didn’t charge me. Not that I would have cared for an extra $ 1, but it was nice that they didn’t charge me. I was getting over a cold, so I was looking forward to some hot tea and some spicy food! I basically replicated my standard order from Thai Gardens so that I could do an apples to apples comparison, along with a couple other items we wanted to try. For appetizers, we got spring rolls and gyoza, and I got a bowl of tom yum soup with chicken, which I ordered«hot». Hot is the 4th spiciest option, out of a total of 5 options. I really wanted some good spice to clear out my sinuses. The tea came out and was lukewarm and not that flavorful. It was really a disappointment. The soup and appetizers were not that hot(temperature) either. The spring rolls were comparable to TG, but the accompanying plum sauce was thinner and less flavorful than at TG. The gyoza were good, just not that warm. My tom yum soup was not that spicy at all, I had expected much more. Usually the Thai restaurants are able to bring the spice. TG’s version is generally much spicier, and I don’t even ask to kick up the spiciness there. However, Typhoon had nice fresh mushrooms and basil, it was really full of quality ingredients. I just wish it was hotter in both spice level and temperature. For dinner, I ordered drunken noodles, my TG go to. My husband ordered the panang curry with chicken and plain fried rice. The drunken noodles gave me the same dilemma as the tom yum soup — nowhere near as spicy as TG, but full of amazing quality ingredients. The shrimp were huge and cooked perfectly, and the beef was amazing too. But I wished it had a little more heat to it. My husband’s curry was good, but very watery and the coconut milk had not been mixed thoroughly through, so there were light and darker spots in the sauce. It was tasty but would have been good if it was thicker. The plain fried rice was good, and it came out on a plate in the shape of a heart. I saw a plate for another table where it was in the shape of a star. That’s cute. They kept our water glasses filled, but didn’t really ever check on us to see how things were. They brought the check without offering us dessert. Service was efficient, but nothing extra. The dining room is nice, but not as nice as TG. Also, TG is always packed and Typhoon was only about a third full. BYOB is definitely the biggest perk, especially if you’re with a large party and plan on drinking. My biggest complaint was the lack of spicy foods. Typhoon was definitely a letdown from that perspective. I requested my food to be spicier than most would and I thought it was actually more mild than what I would expect from the«standard» preparation.

A wonderful spot for a very affordable lunch with a huge serving. The owner is an absolute sweetheart. The basil chicken with rice noodles was awesome. Very healthy and loaded with veggies and not greasy at all. I got the 5 on the hot scale and it was really hot but perfect for me. For under $ 6 you can’t go wrong.

So I them better than Thai Gardens. Typhoon has been catering to Wesleyan for as long as I remember and their pad thai and curry has always been on point… really brings a crowd to an event. I went to the restaurant for the first time recently and I LOVEd what I ordered… although I can’t remember what the name of it was. It was not to die for but I usually am like eh that was ok or pretty good but this plate was pretty dag on good. So I will definitely come back.

The food is great. The service not so much. The restaurant was almost empty. We walked in to get a table for 5 and were turned away cause«they had a busy night coming up.» This is the 2nd time we have been turned away by the owner for a pretty silly reason. Not sure if it’s something personal or what is going on. We have not gotten into any type of discussion with her prior to this. But either way, she was not accommodating as we had to go elsewhere.

Great place. Best service in Middletown. The owner is so nice and funny. She’s the best. She is very friendly and will joke around with you! Good Thai food. I’ve ordered many different things and they’re all great. The lemon chicken is awesome, and their curries are really bomb.

We love Typhoon! It was our first ever Thai experience a year or so ago and we’ve been hooked on drunken noodles ever since! When the craving for some hits, this is the only place to go for us! You just have to be very specific about how spicy you want them, there was one time I wasn’t able to eat and enjoy mine despite asking that they not be spicy at all. The staff are very nice and friendly, and from what I understand they treat their employees well. Just know that their kitchen closes and they stop seating people about a half hour before the time posted on their sign. –K & A
