Sunday brunch, my favorite meal of the week. And it doesn’t get much better than the Plump Peacock. Charming is the first word that comes to mind when walking to the entrance of the café. It’s located in a lovely old stone house with several chimneys, like something from a fairytale. There are whimsical stained glass mosaics of peacocks displayed outside. The charm continues inside. It’s a tiny space with low ceilings, but the light walls and well-placed mirrors make it seem open and inviting, and the tables are positioned to allow easy movement; it certainly doesn’t feel cramped. The curtains and pillows placed throughout the space feel rich but comfortable. Soft French music adds to the experience. The service is great. My friend and I arrived about fifteen minutes before the café opened. The sign on the door was still flipped to Closed. But it was cold outside, so we tried the door anyway. Finding it unlocked, we went in. We apologized for being a bit early and said we were perfectly happy to wait. They had none of it and seated us immediately. Within moments, mugs of coffee were placed in front of us by the owner/chef, Liz. She’d sloshed the coffee into the saucers a bit and apologized, joking that she should stay in the kitchen. The server arrived moments later, offering folded napkins to place in our saucers as a barrier between the cup and sloshed coffee. It was unnecessary, but appreciated. Oh, and they also offered us vanilla bean sugar for our coffee. Nice touch. Now for the most important part: the food. Delicious. I ordered a croissant breakfast sandwich. The croissant was soft and buttery and was overflowing with eggs and sausage. It was served with hash browns, which were also good. My meal was absolutely wonderful and I couldn’t imagine how brunch could get any better — until my friend handed me a piece of her bacon marmalade grilled cheese sandwich. I can’t put into words how amazing that sandwich was. Just trust me that«wow» is an understatement. We couldn’t leave without trying some of the beautiful bakery items. We went with the caramel apple hearts to heaven, a warm and gooey pastry that smelled like happiness and conjured memories of family holidays. We also had the homemade Almond Joy bar. Incredibly rich, chocolate and coconut, awesomeness. So, yeah. 5 stars. No question. I already told my boyfriend I want to go back for brunch on Valentine’s Day.

After an eventful weekend in Louisville, we decided to conclude with brunch some where. A last minute decision took us to the plump peacock. This ended up being on of the best decisions of the weekend. This bakery and café is located in the bottom floor of a large(I assume historic) house(that might be a business, but I didn’t pay that much attention). Walking in, you might think you just found your French grandmother’s basement. It’s cozy with throw pillows and a small bakery case filled with goodies. We stopped in at 10am on a Sunday and we were the first ones there. I can imagine they get pretty busy later on because we heard them taking reservations. After the beer and wine the night before, we abstained from the usual«hair of the dog», but they did offer cocktails like mimosas should anyone need one. We ordered coffee and waters. And then the chef asked if we wanted the vanilla flavored sugar to go with it… uh, yes please! There were large pieces of vanilla in the little jar. I do not suggest eating them, so work your way around those. Then I ordered the bacon marmalade grilled cheese. This was THE. BEST. THING. I had eaten all weekend. The sweet and salty bacon marmalade went perfectly with the creamy, melty white cheese on toasted bread. We ordered the almond joy bar and the apple caramel blossom fir dessert. The almond joy bar was rich. And the apple blossom comes warm and gooey. The smell reminded me of christmas, warm and cinnamony. Apparently they are famous for their bacon maple muffin, but I just can’t get on the maple wagon – the smell of it is just off putting to me. I really wanted my friend to try it, but she chose the apple blossom. Some one needs to tell me how good it is. Over all, the coffee was good. My sandwich was amazing. Two coffees, two entrees and two dessert cost us $ 30.00 – not too shabby. If you need brunch give this place a shot; you won’t be disappointed.

We went for a later Sunday morning breakfast. The food was okay. The coffee warm. The prices relatively low. The server was nice, but seems to be a strong introvert. The seating is in the basement of an old building, not great. My guess is that we hit what would normally be a 4 star place on an off day.

What a quaint little breakfast/brunch/lunch restaurant! This is located on the first level of the carriage house in Middletown. You walk in the door and feel somewhat transported back in time. Both times I have been, I have been immediately greeted with a smile and seated right away. The service is excellent, and very friendly, and the food is wonderful! I have been for brunch and lunch, and both are great! For Brunch, the quiche florentine is fantastic with seasonal fruit. Oh! What is definitely worth a shout it is their COFFEE! It is delicious. If you’re a coffee lover, order a cup or 5, you won’t regret it. For lunch, I have had the c’est la vie sandwich as well as the peacock club… Oh my word, the melted Brie and Dijon on the c’est la vie make magic together. The Italian wedding soup is delicious as well. Honestly I can’t think of one thing to say that isn’t glowing. Don’t miss this place! You will not be disappointed.

The name says it all: Plump Peacock = adorable, unique and refined. I’m not even sure how I stumbled upon The Plump Peacock on Unilocal. But I am so glad I did! It is located in the most low key building. The entrance is on Harrison rather than Main St. Once I entered, it is like a different world from outside. The historic building is lovingly maintained. The low beams and old worn out stair case are all preserved along with the slight slant in the floor. I can see a lot of care was put into what appears to be simple details such as the pillow upholstery and curtains. The whole place feels so cozy and comfortable… even the bathroom is adorable. I ordered the grilled ham with gruyère on both my visits. The multigrain bread is thin but sturdy. It holds up well to the gruyère and ham. I also tried their tomato soup. It is creamy and a bit sweeter than some of the other tomato soups I have had. I find that I like this version the best. Service is relaxed and well paced for everyone who comes here to relax and enjoy the surroundings. Besides the sinful looking things in the bakery case, Plump Peacock also offers catering and high tea service. The catering menu includes sumptuous things such as goose and duck. I hope I have a chance to taste them in the future.

Oh, Unilocalers, you never steer me wrong. What a sweet find the Plump Peacock is! First, the location: the restaurant is housed in what was once the carriage house of the Capt. Benjamin Head House, an 1814 building on the National Register of Historic Places. The beamed ceilings are low, the walls are stone and the atmosphere is oh, so cozy and quaint. At breakfast on a Saturday morning, the PP wasn’t very busy, but I’m told they do a brisk lunch business. My husband got the Farm House Special, a massive plateful of biscuits and gravy, eggs, bacon, hash browns and a muffin of the day, chocolate-walnut. I enjoyed the Toad in the Hole(basically toast with an egg in the middle — but better) with hash browns; and my mom ordered a waffle. A new cook was being trained and apparently the first waffle didn’t meet the chef’s standards so the waitress brought Mom a maple-bacon muffin(she said it was delish) while her waffle was remade. Nice! We got a couple almond joy desserts to go because, well, they just looked so pretty and tempting in the glass display case. Like the rest of our Plump Peacock experience, including the warm and efficient service, the desserts did not disappoint. Check out the shop upstairs following your meal to round out the special experience(can’t promise the fellas will enjoy the shop part, though).

Excellent food, cozy and quaint atmosphere. The chef is friendly and accommodating. If I was sticking around longer, I would take them up on their custom stocked picnic basket rentals. Great date idea! Only downside was that they stopped serving breakfast at 10:45 on Saturday(Sunday goes til 3).

This is why I love Unilocal.I wanted to take my family out to Cracker Barrel for brunch, but since our time was limited, I had to find another place that was quick, without having to settle for fast food. The reviews for this place got me in the door, and the food and service didn’t disappoint. In a small house that was built in the 1800’s, it is the perfect complement to a fresh local bakery. Homemade danishes, eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy, hash browns, pancakes, fresh fruit, hot chocolate… who knew such a small place could cause such a good food coma? So glad we found it, we will definitely be back!

The Plump Peacock is a charming, welcoming venue for a quick bite. I visited recently with a friend so that we could catch up over Sunday lunch, and it proved to be the perfect place to do just that. Located on Main Street in Middletown, KY, Plump Peacock occupied the basement of an old stone house. Enter behind the building after parking on the gravel lot, and it’s almost like stepping into the French countryside. Everything from the low ceilings with exposed beams and the stone walls to the French provincial fabrics decorating a chaise lounge at the entry, and the whole vibe is that you’re in another world entirely. The service was friendly and prompt. We both opted for individual quiches with a side salad. All of the ingredients tasted fresh and the quiche was toasted just to a golden crisp. I devoured my food and was almost embarrassed at how quickly I ate it, but it was just that good! I was too full to try one of the famous bacon maple cupcakes, but wanting to try one of those just gives me a good reason to return soon!

Oh my! What a fabulous find today! This is truly a hidden treasure! It’s so great I almost hate to post about it because she will get crowded but it’s too good not to share! It has this old world feel that you can only get from the very old and quaint building it is in. There is outdoor seating in the garden patio out back. We were even granted a personalized tour from the owner herself, Liz. Thanks Liz! I had the Farmers market breakfast plate with the muffin. YUM! Homemade biscuits and gravy. Bacon. Eggs. Hash browns. All were amazing! Took home a piece of banana coconut cream pie(is this woman in my dessert dreams??) and it was amazing! It faces Shelbyville Rd but backs up to Old Middletown Main Street. So lots of small stores right outside the patio for after brunch shopping! Go. Now. Impress your friends with your knowledge of quaint amazing restaurants in KY. You can even pretend like you never read this…;)

Let me start off by saying, the building this is located within is incredibly rustic and charming. My mom and I follow«eatlovelouisville» on Instagram and a picture of their pastries was featured. So we decided to give it a try, and we were beyond glad we did. I ordered the Vanilla Almond cake and my mom ordered the cherry cupcake. First of all, both items were freshly made and very moist. The cake had whipped buttercream frosting(I think) and it wasn’t hard like it had been siting out forever, same for the icing on my moms cupcake. I can’t express how fresh and delicious both desserts were, and this place is definitely worth a try. I promise you’ll definitely be returning for more.

On a recent visit to the area, my husband and I stopped one afternoon in looking for coffee and possible dessert. We had the loveliest time. They don’t specifically offer an iced coffee but made us one that was the best we’ve had. And that Almond Joy bar… wow. Simply fantastic! Wish we would’ve had time to go back for dinner. We will make it a point to stop in again on our next visit to Louisville!

Another wonderful place found because of Unilocal. My wife and I wanted coffee but wanted something different, instead of just a regular chain. Unilocal said that Plumb Peacock was nearby so we went there and found a hidden gem. Inside, it is so welcoming, both from the décor and also because of the staff. We felt as if we were visiting family. My wife and I both had a cup of coffee and a maple syrup bacon muffin. Talk about amazing. It was volumes better than anything available at a chain and was hand delivered with care and attention. We did not really get to give their bakery a test run on this visit, but as luck would have it, my wife and I won an Easter give away that they were doing. We won a custom chocolate covered pound cake in the shape of an Easter bunny. It was such a wonderful surprise and was even more delicious. The parking here is, well, not a lot to chose from and if they are busy, you might have to park close by and walk. Don’t let that be a reason not to come here. It was well worth it and we will happily select Plumb Peacock over any other similar place in the future. Places like this are reasons why my wife and I are glad we moved to Louisville. Fortunate to have access to places with character, great service, and awesome food.

If ambiance is important, this spot has it along with the most delicious food. You can tell that time is given in the love of a perfectly finished product. Service is great & the chef is a gracious host. Treat yourself and stop in for lunch, dessert or both. Be sure to take sweets home for your friends and family. They will love you for it.

What a sweet surprise both by the ambiance and the gourmet type ingredients packed into yummy and beautiful pastries. It is like steeping into a European bakery and café. I am having them cater an event so more reviews to come but the assortment of confections I took home make my salivate with anticipation as what’s to come. Both chefs/bakers sat down and took great interest in guiding me through their endless combinations for my upcoming baby shower brunch! Must treat yourself to this sweet find! So happy I found it.

Highly recommended bakery! I was in Louisville for a wedding and decided to stop by for lunch. What a pleasant surprise, and as an out-of-towner, I wish this location was near my home! I had a very fresh and clean chicken salad sandwich on a croissant which paired nicely with their great service. The danish I tried was a-b-s-o-l-u-t-e-l-y superb. I cannot explain how much better it was than any pastry I’ve ever had… just phenomenal. The owner, Liz, came outside to the patio and we had a great conversation about their food, ethics, and atmosphere. I really appreciate her mindset and dedication, especially for a small-business owner. If only every restauranteur was as dedicated and passionate as Liz! Please, if you read this review… stop by, take your time, and enjoy their great food and atmosphere.
