Fun place to hang with friends and grab a fun cup of coffee or moch. Middletown is quite small so it is nice to have a place so close.

I came to Java Johnny’s for years when I lived in Middletown and love coming back when I’m in town. It’s a great place to get comfy in a chair by the fire on a cold, rainy or snowy day. I’ve only tried an espresso drink there once and it was pretty rough so i’ve stuck with brewed coffee ever since. The Highlander Grogg is the best. I’m usually only there at breakfast time and have never tried lunch, but their breakfast sandwiches are delicious! My favorite is the bacon, egg and cheese with Johnny Sauce. The sauce makes it! Pro tip: They have a punch card that earns you a free coffee after so many visits!

I’ve been on the fence as far as Java Johnny’s goes probably since my first visit. There are aspects of this establishment that are good-as-it-gets perfect, but others that really need work. So I’m going to play it honest and safe and go with three stars at this time. The atmosphere: they have totally nailed it. It’s exactly what a modern American café should look and feel like. Two-top tables by the window(nothing to see though), low tops to seat four, sofa and comfy chairs around a coffee table by the fireplace.(I truly hope this is a working fireplace, and time will tell in the not too distant future!) The main dining room is television-free, ahhh! A second room has desks with individual lamps up against one wall, tables for larger groups, more comfy chairs and sofa, plus several flat screen TVs. These were OFF the last time I passed through. Maybe they leave them off as a rule unless a guest wants it on. The coffee: AOK, and lots of options for flavors and lattes – nary a one is low fat/low cal though. Teas available too, and it’s a well kept secret that you can get a decaf coffee or tea if you like. The goodies… fresh baked cookies, turnovers, muffins, brownies and other huge sugar and calorie laden delectables. Three to four stars on these. Don’t miss the Greek yogurt parfait with homemade granola… grab one out of the cold case and stir that granola in as you like it. Heavenly… and easily two servings. I have half today and stick the other half in the fridge for tomorrow. The lunch options… here’s where we slide down the star scale. They are few and very underwhelming, do not show any pride of presentation, and badly need seasoning. And the sandwich filling is, let’s call it less than generous. Then it’s the little things like saying«on white» and getting on white toast. Or that wrap which was 95% folded rolled cardboard dry wheat wrap with a teeny bit of filler at the very center. Kid you not. It was to go so I didn’t have the chance to hand it back to see what would happen. Counter service? Sometimes friendly, sometimes dead-eyed, often disorganized, usually slow. SO: being billed as a café/eatery, not just a coffeehouse, taking all into account I call it AOK.

I’m not a coffee drinker so I can’t provide a review on their coffee. But I will share that their pimento cheese sandwich is absolutely delicious and it’s a good place for lunch. Staff is always friendly.

When the owner is there the place is just great. When the owner is absent, the shop is run by a couple of local high school«female bullies» that have no training in customer service. Great ambiance with lots of space. But it will now be my last choice and recommendation due to terrible service received.

Overall a good experience. My extra dirty iced chai was great. The service was quick, but could have been a little friendlier. The cashier seemed irritable and the barista didn’t even speak to me when putting my drink on the counter. I don’t expect a conversation, but common courtesy to a paying customer would have been nice. I will probably return, but not sold on the place just yet. Will definitely be checking out some of the other coffee places in town.

Very good coffee shop! They roast there own beans and the staff are all very friendly. I’ve never had their food so I can’t comment on that but their drinks are great. And for me that’s what is important about a coffee house. Well done and I enjoyed myself.

My first time here I remember wondering how the hell I missed this place for so many years… I’ve kept coming back ever since. I have NEVER had an unacceptable drink here which is not easy for me to say! The only other place that comes to mind with that level of consistency is Boston Stoker. JJ’s Service and Quality of drinks is outstanding! My biggest complaint is that they aren’t located closer to the highway so it can be a bit of a drive out of the way if you’re not a local. If you’re in the area, do it!

Java Johnny’s has pretty good coffee, and other choices if you are not a coffee drinker. The atmosphere is very nice, and the workers are very friendly. The food is a bit pricey, but delicious. I wish their hours were longer, especially on the weekends. I love this place!

Good coffee a little pricey. They close too early on the weekends(2:00) nice interior. They have a large meeting room and computer tables if you want to work. Friendly staff. Fireplace near the entrance, would be nice if they turned it on because of the cold air coming in the door during the winter.

Independent coffee shop in a wilderness of a mid-20th Century America strip mall. Bless you, Johnny, for opening up right on time the Friday after Thanksgiving. The staff are pleasant, the food looked nice, the coffee was sublime, and the wifi was quick. There are table and sofas in the main room, easy chairs and desks in the second room.

I am picky about my coffee shops so I don’t give 5stars easily to them. Java Johnny’s should have a 10! They serve homemade baked goods, delicious and filling lunches. Coffe is best around, not too sweet, never biter. The staff is wonderful! Oh and did I mention the setup? The main area has chairs and tables and couches. Then another room that can be reserved I believe, has side table lined up along the wall for studying or working. The room can be used for meetings too, they also have media availability for presentations.

The coffee is hit or miss here for me. Sometimes I’ll have a great cup, other times I can tell the coffee has been sitting a while. I like to sit by their fireplace during cold days in the winter — very relaxing. Also, I like the fact that there is a nice selection of magazines to pick and choose from for my reading pleasure!!! I think, however, the atmosphere can be more friendly and the Barista’s could be a little more friendly and welcoming. Overall, if you are looking for coffee in Middletown, this would be an ideal place to stop and grab a cup.

How long has this place been here? When did it open? How have I not heard about this place??? Far and away the BEST coffee in Middletown and possibly the single best reason for me to come back to visit Middletown every year.(Besides my family of course.) I grew up in Middletown and in all those years, there was never any acceptable coffee anywhere around. Now there are some shops with lesser cups… but this is the real deal folks, rivals my usual stops in CA and Oregon. Check it out!

Very nice place for lunch. Has an open area with tables but also has a side room(I assume for more intense internet browsing on your laptop or for more intimate conversation). It is a bit pricey and service is rather slow if you are there for a business lunch

I’m a regular here, but I really struggled between the 3 and 4 star rating. This place benefits from no competition, so if I compared it with other places I’ve been it would be in the 2 – 3 star range, but it’s Middletown, so …4 stars it is! I’m writing this review while sitting here in JJ’s and drinking a disappointing cup of coffee. Often their coffee is bitter, and I know it’s not supposed to be. Sometimes I get a good cup of coffee, but rarely. Makes me wonder why I come back. Must be the people and the fact that it’s a great location for me. There really isn’t another place like this in Middletown — Kidd Coffee doesn’t count, folks. And the staff here are awesome folks. They are all friendly and helpful. The prices seem a bit high on things. It’s easy to come here for lunch and spend 20 dollars. That seems a bit excessive to me if I’m just having a ham and cheese sandwich and my lunch partner is having a bowl of soup. They have a good variety of espresso drinks. The Hoff is a mega fan of the Honey Nougat Breve. It’s made with heavy cream(or half and half… I forget). The desserts vary from very good(some of their pies) to disappointing(the brownies) to DOESANYONEBUYTHIS?!(chocolate covered frozen cheesecake sticks). The turnovers rock; I wish they had blueberry ones though. The oatmeal varies from awesome to middling(when it’s luke warm and clumpy). What else? Oh, it’s a fairly decent people-watching spot if you like that sort of thing. There’s a steady stream of regulars. The place is well kept and clean. The free wireless is reliable and quick. Overall, I recommend this as a stop if you’re in Middletown.

Excellent selection of coffee and drinks. Great place to relax and just chill out. The chairs are very comfortable and they have a side room with flat screen tv’s where you can eat, drink and just relax. They have the best desserts in the city also… a cant miss.
