I think Newport Vineyards is really onto a great idea with a run that goes through their gorgeous property. It is, however, obvious that the race is newer and not all of the kinks have been worked out. Pros: –the course scenery is amazing — be prepared for rough terrain –the barbecue following the run was delicious. We had ribs and pulled pork and both were well-prepared. Cons: –this is the first race I have attended that charged money for gear check –a shirt was not included in the $ 70 registration. Instead, you get a wine glass that has nothing on it to identify it as unique to this event. If you purchased a $ 20 shirt, you’d have to pay $ 5 to gear check it or wear it. –the«wine tasting» at the end is a joke. You have exactly one hour to get your free taste — and it is just that, a single taste of wine. You have to pay to drink a glass of wine. –there was no water at the end of the race! Overall, I would probably do the race again, but only because I am hoping they learn from their mistakes.
