So far this is my favorite coffee spot on Aquidneck island. When you walk in you experience the immediate sensory overload that comes with most mom and pop coffee shops. However that is also usually paired with a promise for good coffee and food and Custom House delivers. The décor is typical with local artist works and the high school sports teams. Still, the photography from those local artists is powerful and whimsical. I really enjoyed admiring the pieces and would actually purchase some of it. I had the Naughty spiced chai. That’s a cold pressed coffee with chai. Smooth, not too sweet, just perfect. The quiche was ok, but like pizza, just ok quiche is still good. Next time I’ll try something else. Most importantly there will be a next time.

I would love to give this place 5 stars, unfortunately it’s only getting 3 because of the rude young girls behind the counter. I ordered a drink to go and while the girl behind the counter was making the drink she was complaining the entire time about how annoying it was. When I reminded her that I wanted the drink to go she rudely exclaimed that that was not how the drink was made there. After a great deal of protesting on her part she finally decided to simply pour the drink into a cup. When I got to the car and tried the drink I noticed it was filled with coffee grinds. I have been making espresso for years and it is impossible to contaminate an espresso drink with coffee grinds. Aside from that the place was great.

My husband and I came here on a Saturday morning for some coffee to go. I liked the homey, country feel of the café without being to stuffy. There were a few areas with outlets in case someone wanted to make a day of working in a fun coffee shop with nice people. They also carry some snacks in case you want to eat there, too! I’d definitely recommend! Their coffee was very good, and they have a few fun concoctions if you want a sweeter and/or more caffeinated version of their coffee.

Love it! Wish I had more time to spend here. Cold pressed brew, so good! Love how they give you a coupon for your next purchase. Everything on the menu looked great. I think it’s worth a stop.

Awesome coffee! Roasted in house, with a huge variety of freshly roasted beans. Excellent staff. Outside seating with water for the dogs. True coffeehouse vibe inside. Also roasts the«Veteran Coffee Roaster» beans with $ 1 to wounded & disabled vets.

best espresso, most civilized café on the island. it ain’t paris or rome but you get an expertly brewed java with friendly service and dedicated staff. beans are roasted to perfection before your very eyes. the snacks aren’t great, but they have a liquor license if you want to spike your petit noir with a shot of alcohol. local photography exhibit lends a sophisticated atmosphere in the cultural wasteland otherwise known as middletown, ri. whatever the place lacks in charm is amply compensated by the absence of tourists.

My wife and myself stopped here on our way to Newport. We ordered a buffalo, chicken panini sandwich and a bag of potato chips. The sandwich was awful. The chicken patty did not taste like real chicken. It was chewy and the only flavor came from the melted cheese that was not good. We could not eat it and threw out most of the sandwich. The potato chips were some no name brand that were not good. I will say the staff here was very nice.

If I could do negative stars I would… Let me start off this feedback with the people there rude as all hell like wow our first time there we were very indecisive yes but of course we should be for the price of the drinks $ 5 for a «large» which is the size of a regular medium iced coffee at dunks. Any how my boyfriend and I ordered 1 «large» frozen drink mine was a mocha cap with almond milk– which they were very unsure and disoriented about, my boyfriend got the white chocolate mocha– I was very thrown off firstly when they told me they didn’t know how to make mine because it’s all powder that they use like ok ummm where’s the coffee and cappuccino you use??? When I tried it all I could taste was that nasty powder taste the chalky kind you get when drinking a bad protein shake or something blah! And we also both got«fresh» made bacon egg and cheeses that were pre made for who knows how long in the fridge they said it’s already fresh from the morning when they make it so it’s fine(with a rude attitude) mind you it’s the imitation egg you find at dunks. Anyway $ 22 later and both of us only a quarter into our drinks and food we ended up THROWINGITAWAY because my boyfriend felt such a horrible pain in his stomach(I didn’t eat or drink enough to get to that point) he threw away most of his food and drink as I did all of mine! So needless to say I was very sad about our visit because we went there mainly on the amazing reviews we found here on Unilocal.Do yourself a favor and GOTOMASDONUTS24 hours down the street amazing, fresh, and super friendly staff. Pretty much everything this place doesn’t have they do, you won’t be disappointed there we weren’t!

This is a favorite of mine. It’s a cozy coffee house with lunch or dinner menus. I love the iced chai teas. You can get sugar free or decaf, it’s a great afternoon pick me up. It’s convent inky located in Middletown. There pretty quick so you can get in and out. I work down the street and run on between clients. I noticed there open at night now which is a treat . The staff is friendly and they are very helpful. There is plenty of small tables to relax at with friends or with s good book. They stated serving cocktails with meals. This is a new addition to there menu. I’ve been coming here for years and have watch it grow into a nice neighborhood place to go. I would say more from the grown up crowd than kids. Sometimes it’s nice to grab a bite with the spouse. I hope you try custom house and have the same great experience as I have always enjoyed.

This was a very nice coffee house! The variety of coffee is nice and the staff is friendly! You are also able to buy your own coffee beans as well! They also have plenty of stuff to choose from if you were hungry. I came here and only got a cappuccino which was very good! The place is quite large and there’s plenty of stuff to look at. They also provide a military discount!

I discovered this place through Unilocal and I couldn’t be happier. I ordered their frozen cappuccino and it was DELICIOUS. I was able to sub in almond milk which was great and it was the perfect balance of a frozen treat and coffee. It was not too sweet which is what I look for in these frozen drinks because I love the taste of coffee just prefer it frozen. The staff was super friendly and I would refer this place to anyone!

Excellent drinks, a bit pricey and a great selection of coffees of the day including a dark roast coffee of the day! It can be tricky to get a seat here some days, the shop is smaller than it appears. The parking lot is a bit of a fiasco as well. There are breakfast, lunch and snack options here.

Nice place to have some coffee and catch live music on a Friday night. It is a little smaller than it looks outside, which gives you a more intimate setting. They have several on premises roasted coffee for sale if your looking for something special to have at home.

Very tasty dirty chai, however the prices were through the roof(over $ 5 for a medium!!!) compared to some of the other local coffee houses in Newport County that I frequent. I’ll stick to their iced coffees in the future.

Iced coffee was excellent! Clean and eclectic store that has a sign on the front saying«Veteran owned and operated.» Gotta love supporting a veteran of our armed forces. Semper Fi!

Really nice atmosphere here! Great place to stop in, have a coffee, and get some work done. Unfortunately their flavored coffees are all infused with syrup. I much prefer my flavored coffee to be brewed that way as I am not a huge fan of sugary syrup in my coffee.

Really nice coffee house that was just a couple blocks from our Air B&B. We discovered that Middletown requires a car because 2 blocks = a highway and a shopping plaza, but we had fun waiting out the rain in CHC, then hiking back to our cave when it slowed down. The coffee was quite good, full of flavor. Very friendly, too. Locals obviously know each other here and it was nice to sit on the porch pooch-watching while folks with dogs came in and out.

This is a nice little spot not too far from my office and while I’m not the biggest coffee drinker, this place does make a very good chai latte(I have enjoyed both the regular and iced versions). I tend to favor the vanilla flavored one but the spiced one is also quite tasty. I’ve noticed on my stops in that they have a pretty decent selection of pastries and breakfast foods but haven’t had a chance to try any of them yet. Depending what time you swing by this place can get pretty busy in the morning. It’s definitely the type of place locals seem to frequent for their daily cup of coffee, so be prepared for a little wait. The people working behind the counter are usually pretty friendly but at times can seem a little overwhelmed if there is a big morning rush. Overall, if you are in need of a cup of fresh coffee or a delicious chai and find yourself in the Middletown area, then give Custom House a try.
