a blessing, truly. the last piece in the food utopia puzzle. foote street farm stand grows, sells, and represents for local food producers. a relatively young business, they seem to be making a go of it and growing. i wish them all the success in the world. their caring gives me confidence. their focus(although not exclusively) is on organic, grass-fed, pasture-raised food. oh, and amazing baked goods. unlike the traditional ‘granny-style’ vermont bakers of cookies and pies, foote street has an ingredient-savvy mind, and a modern/french? approach to baking. butter? i assume tons. sugar? not much needed, except as a garnish. peach pie to die for. muffins with big pieces of nectarines in them. scones… and the breads are amazing, you have to come on the right day for that. eggs from pastured chickens, delicious pork chops and nitrite-free belly bacon from pastured pigs. after grilling the chops, it was the fat that stole the show. the bacon was delectable. fruits in season, some vermont artisinal cheeses, stafford creamtop milk in bottles, and vegetables many grown by foote street in their garden or the indoor/outdoor greenhouse, and some from other nearby farms, and some things from the produce market in new york. lately the peaches(pennsylvanians) have been superb. this is a great resource for real food. added to the marbleworks market, the middlebury coop, and kingsley’s farmstand in forrestbrook, anyone in the area between middlebury and lake dunmore basically has it made.
