Totally disappointed. Very basic and simple food. The pretzel comes with a mix of blue cheese and butter and a lot of garlic. The chicken schnitzel it’s too expensive for being a breaded chiken breast sided with(like not to be home made) smashed potatoes. I was expecting something very different.

I have been to this place maybe four times since they’ve been open. This is the last time. I’m from Germany and can tell you this is not good German food. Beer served in plastic cups in a «Beer Garden» is sacrilege. Spätzle are a disaster, it’s expensive, wait staff another disaster(to the point where it’s actually charming in some weird way). Too bad, I live around the block and the place does have a certain tacky appeal.

After traveling to München last year I have been craving a place that could deliver great Bavarian food close to par with what I had in Germany, and I believe this is the place. We started with the Pretzel for an appetizer, and had the Bavarian Platter which had three types of sausage, two different sauerkraut’s and mashed potatoes… Delicious. Plenty of food with extra to take home. The outside patio in the evening also creates a nice relaxing ambiance for couples, and with plenty of room for larger groups.

Pork shank was delicious. Mashed potatoes and kraut was also really good. Beer was excellent. The black beer and the paulaner oktoberfest maerzen were great. Ask for bug spray if you sit in the garden. Was nearly carried off by mosquitoes.

After driving past this restaurant a million times and reading all the reviews here on Unilocal we finally decided to eat here about a week ago… I’m unsure which restaurant the reviews were referring to, because that is definitely NOT the restaurant we experienced. Pro: The portions were huge Con: The food was terrible The beer was cool at best. The bread was stale. The onion soup was lukewarm and gooey. The breading on the wiener schnitzel was super thick, soggy, and all puffed out. The German barbecue tasted a little gamey(weird for pork right?), and the fat on the ribs was kind of steam cooked, not smoked or charred, so it was kind of gross. The outdoor garden was really nice, but as another reviewer said, you need bug spray. I REALLY wanted to like this place, but the food was awful. Maybe the chef is off on Sundays and they heat up frozen stuff, I don’t know, but this was my first and last time here. UPDATE: Alex R. was kind enough to message me asking me to post a picture on my profile to ensure they don’t serve me again… I guess he missed the part where I won’t be returning because the food was bad. He also told me to go enjoy a paper wrapped burger; he’s right because I would definitely prefer ANY fast food chain burger over this food.

Love, love, love this place! The beer garden in the back is my home away from home. From schnitzel to potato pancakes(sour cream and apple sauce on the side, please), amazing beer selections — on tap, of course — and footage of Oktoberfest in Munich on loop inside the main restaurant, the Schnitzel Haus is a bit of Germany in North Miami. Parking is never an issue, to boot. Das boot? Yes! If you ever go with a bunch of your favorite people, order a Das Boot and be in awe of its size and glory. Brings tears to my eyes. One of my favorite items on the menu is the Bavarian Platter — 3 different types of sausages served with mashed potatoes, red cabbage & sauerkraut. Holy sh*t!

Can’t believe its been 4 years since we were here. Time really flies. In for dinner with 2 friends at 6:30 on a Thursday. I called 2 days in advance to see if they had Schweinshaxe (Roasted Pork Shank). I said we were coming in and that is what I wanted. Judy said they did and would put my name on one. For an appetizer we shared a Honey Garlic Brie with hot rolls $ 10. Very good. My pork with mashed potatos and red cabbage was excellent $ 24. Beef Sauerbraten(Roast beef slices with corn and red cabbage) $ 24.Very Good. Chicken Schnitzel(Chicken breast pounded flat, breaded and pan fried) $ 18. Very good. Service was great as was the food. We we will be back.

Skip this place and go to the gastropub plaza behind it. Prices here are ridiculous. We were sitting down waiting for service for close to 10 minutes. Not worth it. There are so many good restaurants close by that you will be making a mistake by coming in here.

This place was alright. We went for my brother in law’s birthday. We are outside which was a cool little spot. Cool vibe. The service was extremely slow and honestly the place wasn’t that busy. Some of the sausages were tasty, but all in all I wouldn’t make the drive again. Between the service and some of the other plates I saw really wasn’t feeling this place.

What a terrific first visit to the Schnitzel House. For my 300th review, I’m going with a longer form to celebrate this milestone. I typically keep these reviews short, as I have a short attention span myself. ;-) Those of you who follow my reviews have likely concluded that my love for German and Polish food is beyond contestation. So true so true. The city I grew up in(Milwaukee) has a huge German-American population, and I understand the rich tradition of German culture and food. Anyhow, I was heading back to Pompano Beach from Miami on a Saturday afternoon and have had this place on my Unilocal bookmarks list for a couple of years. I decided to stop in and check it out. Everything from the food, to the ambiance, to the service was top rate. Some have complained, I see, that it takes awhile for the courses to make it to you. True. However, patience is a virtue. It encourages conversation with those around you. Growing up, mom would make stuffed peppers, so that’s what I ordered here. Very good. It was draped in a marinara sauce. It truly was the best I have had. I don’t want to undersell this. It was really good, and comes with mashed potatoes. I engaged in a pleasant conversation with Alphie/Elphie? about my love for German food. She was managing the biergarten area. I explained to her that I have been to just about every German restaurant from Lake Worth to Miami Beach. She knew them all. She was very sweet. I had my usual German potato pancakes, with apple sauce and sour cream as an appetizer. Very good. It was almost like hash browns. Finally, let me say that the Apple Strudel was about as good as any I’ve had. I choose vanilla ice cream to accompany it. It was sprinkled with powdered sugar, and had raisins in it. It was almost like bread pudding, but flakier. The ambiance is wonderfully romantic both inside and out. I sat out in the biergarten, which was draped in lights with vines and plants. A German radio station was playing German pop music in the background, which added to the sense of European warmth. The inside is cool, too(see attached photos). Please visit this place. You’ll love it.

Writing this as a German-American I want to set some ground rules for context. 1) This is an American Restaurant that serves a «variety» of German-style food. I use quotes because a half-dozen different schnitzels and a couple brats just don’t cut it for me. This is, sadly, very typical because German food is really difficult to do at a restaurant. It’s takes a lot of prep and there’s a ton of diversity in regional meals so no place can cover the whole gamut. 2) There’s more to German food than Schnitzel, Bratwurst, sauerkraut, and cabbage. Personally I wanted some Maultasche. So easy. So good. So NOT on the menu. 3) Yeah they have 1 L beer whoopty-doo! So does every sports bar except they call it a pitcher. The difference being it’s not otherwise socially acceptable to order your own and drink straight from it except for when you’re at a «German» restaurant. There is a neat little biergarten in back that could be fun. I went on a Friday night at 20:00 and it was DEAD. Not sticking around for more. It’s only good because it’s one-of-a-kind in Miami(to my knowledge) and it’s available for when you need a break from all the Hispanically inspired cuisine around here.

Awesome atmosphere to begin with. They have an outside area that is very cozy/romantic. The inside is the same as well but different. The outside is like a key west feel and the inside is really authentic German feeling. The food is great when you need some schnitzel, mashed potatoes, sauerkraut and anything typical you can think of. The owner is very nice and the service is good. They have an awesome beer selection but my only complaint is that I wish the beer was served colder. I understand that in Germany it might be served a certain temperature but in Florida we like it cold. I hope they are listening. Thanks

Not open Mondays although Unilocal says it is. Fix it please I’m German… Had a craving for comfort food. Heard you were good. You can imagine how disappointed I was when I arrived, hungry, to a closed restaurant when Unilocal tells me you’re open!

This German place is adorable. Uniquely decorated with small romantic beer garden filled with stringed lights. Must-haves: Appetizer-honey garlic Brie(SOOO good) Entrée-Oktoberfest sausage dish. Make sure the dish included red cabbage as a side(amazing). Dessert-apple fritters a la mode. Yum! Service was poor, but probably because they were so busy, because this place is so good!

Would have posted a picture of my chicken schnitzel but we devoured it. Perfectly thin and crispy. The only reason those doesn’t get a five star is the mash potatoes were not seasoned very well. But the delicious pretzel we had as an appetizer and the dessert sure made up for that. It was our waiters first day(Eddie) and he was really doing a great job, got everything to our table fast and was very friendly. Love the atmosphere of this place and the vibe of this neighborhood in general. This is quickly becoming one of my favorite areas in Miami!

Very yummy food. I tried the veal schnitzel and bratwurst. And both were good. I also tried the German chocolate cake and the apple strudel. The homemade whipped cream is great. I wish the apple strudel was a little flakier but it was still very tasty.

Some of the food on the menu is absolute garbage. I have been to this place a couple of times. The first time I came here with friends and we sat outside. It was cold so it was perfect. It took over an hour to get a hot pretzel and sausage and almost 20 min to get a beer. Thankfully we started to order the really large pitchers so we were ok for a time. Another time I came here with my wife. It was the day after Christmas. The place was decorated beautifully but the roast that I ordered was horrible. It was all fat, no flavor and drowning in water. The potatoes were ok but again I ordered a big ass beer and was content. So if you go here do it in the winter, sit outside, order the huge pitchers of beer and get marinated. That way the wait for your crappy food wont seem as bad.

This place has been bookmarked and in line for a visit for awhile now. The time was right, we were up north and Schnitzel Haus came to mind. Way down 79th st; we parked in the back lot. The first thing you come to is the outdoor beer garden, very cute. If it wasn’t so hot we might have stayed out there. Went inside and were seated by the window. Though we could have been seated anywhere as the restaurant was empty. Very kitschy décor. Painted clouds on the ceiling. Mirrors on the walls. I have wanted to come here to try the Cheese Spaetzle. The SO ordered some kind of meat stuffed cabbage thingy. The Spaetzle was basically just macaroni and cheese in an oblong ramekin. It was good but didn’t wow me. It was served with a side of nothing. I think it turned out to be a side and not a meal. At least it wasn’t 12 dollars worth of mac n cheese. Allegedly, the cabbage was ok. Though the meat fell apart when you cut into the cabbage wrapping. The beer, I was looking forward to. They had Spaten Oktoberfest Maerzen. Well, at least they had it on the menu… Alas, the tap was dry! I settled for a draught Paulaner Oktoberfest Maerzen. Which was good but not what my taste buds had been clamoring for. They are beer and wine only… so no schnapps after dinner. For the price, I hear Fritz and Franz is a better deal… Unbookmarked.

Awesome experience. The food is to die for, the service is great and the ambiance is perfect. We ordered the bretzel and potato pancakes for appetizers. Those two things were enough to fill us up! They both were great. We then ordered the bretzel breaded schnitzel and the jaeger Schnitzel. Both of those again were wonderful and though we were stuffed, couldn’t stop eating it. We then finished with the chocolate cake and German coffee. Both good. I loved the cake, the coffee was strong but had a good taste. I highly recommend this place. There’s parking in the back and a great place to spend and evening.

For a place with Schnitzel in the name, they were a HUGE let down, bland and flavorless, didn’t even have the light familiar crunch of a schnitzel. Kitchen unwilling to make very minor adjustments, such as adding a fried egg on top of a chicken schnitzel, while they have other menu items that come with a fried egg on top! The reason they got two stars is the beer! They have a GREAT selections from Germany on draft. I tried a heffeweize(white wheat) that was one of the best Ive ever enjoyed. In fact I would go back again on a hot summer evening and kick back on the rear patio a drink a few beers.

What a delightful surprise. I’ve lived here most of my life and this was my first time here. It was a lovely evening so we sat outside in the beer garden. Very comfortable, warmly lit with plenty of seating. We ordered the potatoe pancakes with apple sauce and sour cream, the roasted pork shank with sauerkraut and potatoes, the cheese spaetzle, the red cabbage and of course, beer! According to my friend, who is more of a foodie than I am, the pork shank was«OK» compared to others because it could have been more tender. This was my first time having German food so OK tasted just right to me. I will say that I could have passed on the potato pancakes because I likened their taste to hash browns. I mean, no complaints about hash browns, I just could have saved valuable stomach space for more of the shank and cabbage, especially since the serving was humongous(see my pic). Elfie, who served us, was a true delight. At one point, she changed what was on the tv screen for us to an insanely fun and super nostalgic 80’s music mashup that went on for about 40 minutes(side note: It’s called the Classic Project 1 Reloaded 2008. Worth finding it if you’re a child of the 80s). Elfie told us that they are busiest on Friday and Saturdays, and of course, on games days(bansketball, soccer, etc.). There’s free parking for customers at the location. Definitely worth visiting again.

NPS = 8 Schnitzel and beer = FAN. TAS. TIC. I finally got the chance to visit Schnitzel Haus after years of wanting to go. The difficult thing about this place is going when they are open! They open at 5pm and close at 11pm so keep that in mind. The beers are awesome. No craft beers necessary. Go for the Oktoberfest or the Heifenweizen and definitely get it in liter size. To start, we had the potato pancakes. These are NOTTOBEMISSED! They come with a side of sour cream and applesauce. Another great appetizer is the brie with honey… oh my. Where have you been all my life, my dearest brie. It even gives me ideas on how to try and cook it at home. The Holstein is the way to go. Its a veal schnitzel with a fried egg on top. The heartiest of all meals. We sat outside and I recommend it. There is soft music playing and some German TV on a projector. This is a great place for great beer with some great friends.

The meal wasn’t bad but I left wanting something more. A fellow German and I had this place on our radar for a long time. It’s not too often I frequent this neighborhood but I made a special journey to see if this place lived up to our high expectations. A big plus? They have a parking lot! I warily entered through the biergarten and unfortunately wasn’t asked if I wanted to sit inside or outside and instead, the bartender made it sound like the outside was my only option. Wish I would’ve been guided a little more as the inside looked quite lovely once I discovered it on my trip to the bathroom. Also, there were mosquitoes that were eating me alive our entire al fresco meal. They gave us bug spray which was a nice gesture but even so, these buggers were eating through my pants! Now for the food. We both got schnitzel(I the Natur and him the Jaeger) because after all, you’re at the schnitzel haus! I also got a side of spatezle, one of my favorite German staples. To finish, we got a slice of the apple strudel to share. Overall, the spatezle and strudel were my favorite and neither of us were all that impressed with the schnitzel. His was pretty salty and mine was very lemony. The portion was big enough for two meals which was nice, but I didn’t find myself craving it the next day. The service was slooooow. At one point, our server vanished for a long period of time and it took us awhile to order our dessert. When the bill came, it felt more expensive than what it was worth. I think the atmosphere of this place would be great for watching soccer games in the biergarten but for a nice dinner out, I would definitely search elsewhere.

After my first experience with German food in Sarasota, I had become interested, wanting to make up for lost time with the sausages. I remembered once seeing a German restaurant on Biscayne Boulevard, within a couple of blocks from my place at the time. Edelweiss was its name. I made a mental note to one day try it, but not long after I dealt with the hassle of moving and stabilizing myself, the restaurant shut down. I was aware of the Fritz & Franz restaurant in Coral Gables, but not wanting to deal with the hassle of parking, plus the fact I had heard it was pricey, I just erased it from my mind. I had driven with my friend by Schnitzel Haus but for some reason, it did not register when I was thinking of German places in Miami. Luckily, my friend checked online(not sure if on Unilocal or Google), and found Schnitzel Haus, so that very same day, we decided to meet up for dinner. Turns out, this is the new reincarnation of Edelweiss, so I don’t feel like I missed out anymore. There was ample parking on the side. It is just before arriving at the Kennedy Causeway bridge in North Bay Village. As I parked, I entered through a cute little garden and outdoor seating. I think it would have been charming, but it was actually pretty hot and my friend wanted to eat indoors so we walked through a corridor, pushed aside the curtains, and entered. This was the weekend prior to the World Cup finals so the place was decorated with many German flags and German décor inside. We were quickly greeted and sat at the table. The waiter was very friendly and attentive. We decided to share two entrees: the Bavarian sausage platter and the sauerbraten, to compare them to the dishes we had ordered in the Sarasota restaurant. The sauerbraten here was also tender but it had a strong vinegary flavor, and that is actually what it should taste like, according to my friend, that is why it’s called«sauer» as in sour. I did not notice that flavor in the meat that we had gotten in Sarasota. The cabbage was good, as was the sauerkraut. The sausages in the platter were very flavorful, and it was a good-sized meal. The spaetzle was not as cheesy or heavy in flour as the one in Sarasota, but frankly I don’t know which is more authentic. My friend actually went for dessert, surprisingly, so I did too. He got the apple strudel, and I got the German cake. My cake was good, but the strudel is their signature dessert and when I took a bite out of my friend’s, this chocoholic(surprisingly) thought she made the wrong choice in not ordering the strudel as well. It had raisins and a strong flavor of cinnamon, and lots of apple filling. We finished and paid(prices were not too bad, by the way) and walked through that cute garden again. Both the inside of the restaurant and the outside had German music, techno mostly, so kudos for authenticity. I think it’d be nice to sit in the garden on a breezy day and enjoy a meal. I certainly plan to be back.
