We came into this place enticed by the promise of some fresh baked goods. A very nice lady comes out and cheerfully asks we are from Guatemala, it so happens that this is a Guatemalan Bakery and needless to say, this lady is very proud of her creations. We noticed that they had some basic breakfast and promptly jumped at the opportunity, but as I mentioned before, since they are very proud of their heritage, she immediately suggested a typical breakfast, with re-fried beans, eggs, ham and plantains. There was simply no way I was going to pass that up, and what a wonderful breakfast it was, had it with a good café con leche, I knew my day was going to be good. This meal packed some super powers, because having just done a 5K race early in the morning, I still managed to go to Home Depot to pick up some stuff, go stock up on goods @ Sam’s Club and finally pressure clean my patio and organize the yard… all this before lunch. I am going back for more, and this time, I just might end up painting my house and remodeling the bathrooms. Oh yeah, and the baked goods we took with us, simply fantastic. Go ahead, stop by, ask questions and try everything, it is ALL good !

So, after a 5K and shower we headed out to Home Cheapo… wait, I mean Home Depot by Mall of the Americas. Incredibly famished we figured we would find a breakfast spot around there somewhere(note: they are few and very far between, I wouldn’t recommend you do what we did as we were DYING of hunger and I was getting testy). After driving around a bit we saw a sign outside of a tiny strip mall off the beaten path that said amongst other things«Bakery». We pulled in right in front of Blue Sky which was open and advertising coffee food already in neon lights, but we turned and saw the teeny tiny bakery sign behind us across the lot. We headed over there, figuring a new thing would be a nice treat. Don’t expect plush surroundings, this is a family owned, family run bakery catering to Guatemalan patrons. There is one tiny table to eat at if you want to eat something there, most people come to buy their bread and leave. The owner came out and we asked her if she had breakfasts and she proudly offered a typical Guatemalan breakfast to which we readily agreed to try! She prepared it herself, 2 eggs, ham, fresh bread, frijoles refritos, and fried maduros which we inhaled in 5 seconds. She happily observed us wolfing down her home made food and when we were done we filled 3 bags with great looking typical breads. $ 13 for everything including coffee! Delicious food and the bread was to DIE for! It reminded us of the sweet breads(note not sweetbreads as in innards) from all over Latin America. Try the pan con pina! MMMMMMMMM I couldn’t stop eating it! Great local bakery and hard working family, stop by and try the bread out.
