As noted in almost all the other reviews, this place is probably about as close as you can get to a «real» NY deli in Miami. Well, in downtown at least.
Located in the Flagler Food Court, Metro Deli offers a huge variety of sandwiches, including anything you could possibly think of. And probably some options you would never dream of in a million years.
Sandwiches come both hot and cold, depending on your preference, and are all lovingly prepared by hand after you place your order. The menu can be a tad overwhelming, as it spans the whole length of the place. So your best option is probably coming in with some sort of semblance of at least what kind of meat you want in your sandwich (pastrami, corned beef, roast beef, turkey, etc.)
I was definitely overwhelmed by the choices of sandwich available to me, but opted for the traditional reuben when decision time came. Since it’s a hot sandwich that’s pressed to lock everything in, it took a bit longer to make its way from the kitchen to my table. But when it did, I was pleasantly surprised to see it accompanied by a pickle and a side of macaroni salad. The sandwich was quite tasty, though a tad-​bit messy to eat, with the melted cheese and sauerkraut tending to ooze out of the bread.
The prices are right on par with the quality and loving preparation that you get. My reuben was on the higher end, at about $ 8.95, but many other options are available for the $ 6 – 8 range. It’s counter service, so don’t expect the world. But if you want a NY-​style deli sandwich and find yourself in Downtown Miami, don’t miss Metro Deli!

You have heard of the soup natzi, well say hello to the sandwich natzi! The owner and sandiwch maker at Metro Deli is as loud and obnoxious as they come. Its live entertainment. But let me tell you, in the end he is a nice guy. Now to the food, if your looking for a good sandwich that isnt ordinary then come here. You can make a sandwich a million different ways here. I have had so many within the last 2 years that I can barely remember which ones I have tried. But my favorite of all time has to be the toasted turkey pesto wrap. So good. Every sandwich comes with your choice of coleslaw, potato salad, and pasta salad. I love their coleslaw! Its a tad bit on the vinegar side which love. The only thing I dont like is the styrofoam cups they use. It adds a weird tast to whatever fountain drink you pour in it. So to keep it safe, I just get the soda canned.

Well it’s not quite a NY deli. But it’s the closest one can get in downtown Miami.
I had the combo pastrami/​corned beef on rye. A classic. It was very good. My dining mates chose the same except for one who chose the liverwurst and onions. I’m assuming it’s the owner who was making our sandwiches and he has a good sense of humor, which is rare with counter service these days.
Good value and good food. Only two complaints. Bread was a little thin and I wish the pickle was a real deli-​style half-​sour. Even those deficiencies are minimal.

A New York deli smack dab in the middle of Downtown Miami. Located in a funky second floor food court (which it shares with, among other mom and pop shops, a Subway — bleh), the Metro Deli is a slice of small business America that is fading with each franchise shop that goes up.
OK, I’m being a hypocrite: I like Subway; I like Quiznos; I like Wendy’s sandwiches, too… I’m a fast food junkie. With that disclaimer, if all those places faded away, I wouldn’t care, because places like Metro Deli exist. The sandwiches are gigantic (ask for a doggie bag, because you really should just eat half the sandwich). Everything is prepared to order, and done quickly. Hot sandwiches are great (yeah, I’m partial to Reubens or any old warmed up deli meat sandwich), and the people are very personable once you start to show up more than two or three times… it just isn’t a cookie cutter place like the fast food joints.
The weird little food court that the deli sits in is a slice of downtown workers from the lawyers just down the street hanging out near the courthouses to the jewelry and electronics sellers that dot the downtown area, to the occasional tourist straggler… it’s a great atmosphere to enjoy your fresh sandwich.
For under 10 bucks, you have not one, but TWO filling meals. Go for it!

Go to Metro Deli if you want a quick and tasty sandwich downtown. It is a bit tricky to find – located on the second floor of one of those weird downtown malls – but you’ll be happy when you do. They proudly boast that they’ve been around since 1942, which is just under 200 years old in Miami years.
The turkey reuben is awesome. All sandwiches come with a pickle slice and a small side of their rather bizarre but good pasta salad.
This is the type of place where they really know their regulars. The guy making the sandwiches was chit chatting everyone up, asking them about their lives. «How’s Jane?» «Did you get your heat fixed yet?» «Did you see that special on tv last night?» You know, that kind of stuff.
