I am a local and I got a Groupon to go hang gliding as a gift to myself after taking the New York bar exam(because after you take a miserable test you should treat yourself). I called once and they didn’t call me back, so I called again and they answered and booked me for a Saturday morning. I showed up a minute or two late but they were fine with that. I was the only person hang gliding in that time slot which was really cool. The owner was a blast and so were his two employees. I had so much fun. The guys were more than happy to help me climb into the boat and get into all of the equipment. I left my wheelchair in my car because I didn’t think there’d be room for it on the boat and when the owner found out he was upset and told me that he’d be happy to park my wheelchair on the dock or boat if I wanted him too. Apparently he has done some boating activities for people with disabilities in the past. I found this to be pretty cool as it’s hard to find business owners that actually welcome people with disabilities! Anyway, flying was a blast. The guy I flew with was so much fun and played along when I insisted we should have a sing along — he immediately busted out with«I Believe I Can Fly.» I bought the pictures and video for $ 60 or something and it was worth it! If you want to see the video quality you can check mine out here: (singing starts around 3:20 for those of you that want your ears to bleed). Cutting the rope and free flying was probably the best part, especially when the guy showed me how to steer and do more extreme tricks that made us feel like we were on a roller coaster. Also, I wanted a wet landing and they made sure I got super wet which was fun. It was a really fun experience and I would do it again any day.
