The name has changed the appearance remains the same, but traffic has truly decline for what it use to be, service not the same. I’m a true believer that if is not broken don’t fix it, Scotty had an appeal, now Grove Bay Grill, well let’s see what happens when they move — wishing them all the best, for now it doesn’t have the same feel as it did before

Great ambiance and friendly staff. Not a fancy place but, who needs that? It’s right on the pier so it’s a little hidden from the main road. Overall a very good experience in the grove!

So this is Scotty’s. Why they would change the name when they are just planning to knock the whole block down and rebuild makes no sense to me but it is what it is. Same ol scottys, side bar didn’t even have a tool to open bottled beers and the drafts were out. Food was your typical bar food. It just feels good to drive down to the grove and chill at a laid back spot by the water with good people. Apparently the main staff from Scottys have all moved on but there are a few left. Very few. Enjoy the place while it lasts, whatever the name may be.

Terrible. This place is as bad as scottys. Aside from a view this place absolutely sucks. Service doesn’t exist. 22 minutes for a glass of water. Swore I wouldn’t come back to scottys about 3 years ago. Never did. Now they change the name and the place continues to let u down. It’s unreal how Miami has no excellent spots to eat water front. Rest of the state is full of them. From broward to the pan handle. Shut this place down and open a real restaurant.

I’ve been coming here for more than 20 years. The view is great, the food is generally good and its’ got a good atmosphere. The changeover to the new owners from Scotty’s Landing seemed to be pretty transparent. However on a recent Friday night we had a very bad experience. Friday’s are busy there so make sure to place your food order as soon as possible. It is well known that the kitchen has a hard time keeping up with the orders. Knowing this we ordered as soon as we got a seat. We rarely saw our waiter after placing the order and our glasses of beer and water were empty. Usually the service is pretty good here. Our order was still not brought out after 45 minutes, Then the table next to ours, who got there a good 20 minutes after us, was served their food. This was totally unacceptable. The manager promised us that we would have our food immediately. Which of course he could because the server left it sitting there for long enough for the food to be lukewarm at best. We made it clear that we were unhappy with the server. I asked for the check. They put a 18% service charge on the check! We were a party of three and there is nothing on the menu that allowed them to charge a service charge. This charge was entirely inappropriate. After another conversation with the manager the situation was straightened out. However between the incredibly poor service, the late served luke warm food and the need to communicate twice with the manager our evening was ruined. We won’t be going back any time soon.

I received an apology from the owner immediately. He wanted to know more of the details of my experience to address them.

Grove Bay Grill is the new incarnation of Scotty’s Landing… a true Old Florida style, casual, open air, dock n’ dine seafood and burger joint overlooking the Coconut Grove marina and Biscayne bay. I reviewed Scotty’s a few years ago, but for some reason the old reviews didn’t transfer to the new page. Anyway, not much has changed… the old green and white canvas roof, plastic furniture and one page laminated menu are still the same. Nothing fancy, but If you appreciate the vibe of the keys, fish sandwiches and pitchers of beer with a great water view, you will enjoy this place.

The view is IT. Even on this cloudy day, it’s so nice to sit back and enjoy the Breeze and the sailboats on the bay. Sunsets are pink and purple and beautiful. I was sad to hear the usual Sunday live music was cancelled due to the weather, but I love coming here for a laid back lunch or just to enjoy a couple of beers with friends. where you feel like you’ve stepped out of Miami and into a patio table style spot in the Keys. We actually just hung out and had a few beers(a few craft beers available on tap and bottle). Menu items include ceviche, fried calamari and conch fritters; the usual seafood bar food. Ambiance is better than the food, honestly, but it’s a great chill Sunday spot.

Visited Grove Bay Grill on a Sunday afternoon. It was a beautiful day so it felt like a good idea to grab some drinks and sit out by the water. I was a big fan of Scotty’s, but this was my first trip since it changed over to Grove Bay Grill. Quality Even though there is a full menu, this is not a place I would ever be interested in ordering a meal from. To me it is a place for appetizers and drinks, however the selection of appetizers leaves something to be desired. It seems clear that the new owners wanted to make a change and possibly make the place a destination for a meal, but I believe they failed. Quantity I can only speak to the drinks, but they were generous pours. However, for the price they should have been nearly twice the size. Value It was Sunday afternoon with no major games on and everything was full price. They advertise the buckets of beers, but the selection of beers is terrible and it is overpriced. Meanwhile liquor is the same price it would be at a club. Once again I did not order the food, but it looked way overpriced as well. Ambiance The whole reason I loved Scotty’s was the laissez faire approach to drinking by the water. You walked in picked a table and called over a server when necessary. You could hang out all day or just for a drink. The music was good and the drinks were cheap. This led you to overlook the flaws such as the fact that the restaurant was completely beat down and the chairs and tables looked like they could fall apart any minute. It seems like the new owners just slapped on some new paint, got rid of some of the more decrepit tables and chairs, added more regular table service, and decided this would justify an increase of prices. Grove Bay Grill does not have the charm that Scotty’s did, even though they seem to think it does. There was no music playing when I was there, there were no new televisions added, and it was clear the former regulars were gone. I understand that dives like Scotty’s struggle to survive, but if you are going to try and make changes and up-charge at least make reasonable improvements. Crowd Almost entirely tourists, likely directed here by people who still thought it was Scotty’s. When your at a bar by a marina the hope is you find a place where boaters hang out. That is no longer the case at this spot. Service The one thing I can’t complain about was our waitress. She was extremely friendly and funny and seemed genuinely interested in talking with us. Parking It is located in a little hidden area with a lot right nearby. However, there is tons of parking spots all over the area, but free parking can definitely be found. Extra It is difficult to be disappointed when the true goal is just to have a few drinks by the water, but Grove Bay Grill managed to do so. The new owners have a ton of work to do if they think they will be more successful than Scotty’s. Their attempt lacks both fun and charm and with so many other waterfront bars and restaurants in Miami it would be hard not to pick a better spot for a drink.

Went a few weeks ago with some out of towners I was entertaining. My guests wanted to sit close to the water and although it was a really rainy Saturday, the staff was very accommodating and sat us as close to the edge as they could(without getting us wet!). The peel-and-eat shrimp were better than Scotty’s and the draft beer tasted WAYYY better(Scotty’s draft beer always tasted like a damp dirty cloth mixed with tequila to me for some reason – yuck). After a couple of beers and snacks we asked for the bill. We were pleasantly surprised to learn that our server had comp’d us for two ice creams we ordered(really nice of her!!). All in all, I think Grove Bay Grill is a great improvement over Scotty’s Landing. As with any restaurant, management changes aren’t easy but little by little things are improving and let’s be real, people go there for the beautiful view, great casual ambiance and low prices(this is a DIVEBAR, not a Michelin rated restaurant). I give it five stars for what it is, a great dive bar :)

I visited this place with my friend on a Thursday night, and it was pretty quiet, with just a couple of tables occupied. Located right on the water, Grove Bay Grill offers a very nice view. We started out by ordering 2 Hennessy & Coke, but were disappointed to be told they did not have Hennessy. No big deal, and we ordered whiskey instead. The drinks were small, but strong, but I felt like $ 11 was a smidge high for such a small glass. We enjoyed our drinks and the view but by 9:20 or so, the waitress approached us and told us that the kitchen would be closing soon so if we wanted food, we needed to order then. I was caught off guard by that; I wasn’t aware they closed the kitchen so early. Closing time is 10, and usually a restaurant will offer food up to maybe 15 minutes before close. We both ordered the dolphin & shrimp with fries, which was $ 14.50. The fish was INCREDIBLY over seasoned. I have NEVER had fish, or any other food, served with that much season. It was terribly salty and we both struggled to eat it. The steak fries were good, though. While we were eating, they started loudly closing up the shutters, and the whole thing made me feel rushed, as if I had overstayed my welcome. We tried to finish quickly, and left. We stayed talking in the parking lot for another 10 minutes, because we wouldn’t feel rushed there. I wanted this place to be better; I was hoping I would find a new place to go hang out and enjoy some drinks & food by the water… But unfortunately, I doubt I will return.

A colleague and I were in town and wanted dinner by the water. This was one of the only places that popped up as an option, so off we went. First of all, the signage was horrible so we drove around the parking lot for quite some time then finally parked and walked around aimlessly until we found it. When we saw it, something didn’t seem right. So, we went to look at the ladies room. (Pro tip: if you’re ever unsure about a restaurant, check the restroom. If it’s not clean, the kitchen probably isn’t either.) My coworker walked in and said«I’m afraid a cockroach is going to pick me up and scurry away with me.» It was disgusting. Broken trash can, dirty to the point that you didn’t want to touch anything, and worse yet — the hot air dryers were placed directly above the toilets. Totally unsanitary, so off we went to find something else. So, in fairness this review has nothing to do with food, drink, or service, but everything to do with first impressions, cleanliness, and hygiene.

Not Scotty’s anymore, but will always be Scotty’s to me. Still not 100% crazy about the food and the service is still so-so. The same rickety plastic chairs and tables are scattered about, but it looks like they gave them a good scrub-a-dub with some bleach. The live band on a Saturday night was borderline OK with moments of terrible. The guy kept playing self-indulgent Pearl Jam ballads at such a slow tempo that it made me want to go in the bathroom and cry. They need to bring back the 18 Wheelers or a better trop rock cover band that plays more lively stuff. We are out trying to have fun on a Saturday night, not attend a funeral. The food again was OK. It provided sustenance and kept me from passing out, but it did not wow me. I ordered the Caesar with blackened dolphin. The fish was mushy and I was searching for the seasoning. The dressing was bland. It wasn’t entirely terrible, but when I go out to eat, I want to taste something better than I can make myself at home. I ordered peel-n-eat which came out hot with a tiny cup of cocktail sauce. Literally it was just steamed shrimp — not sure if they steamed in beer or used seasoning of any sort. Again, I was hungry — I ate it and didn’t complain when I probably should have. The server was a nice enough guy, but he couldn’t hear over the band and kept asking us to repeat ourselves over and over. Not a big deal, but we were sitting all the way across the room, a good distance from the band and we were literally screaming at each other at times. We ordered bottled beer, so not much to say there. This place is still a nice waterfront spot to hang out at. But, stick to the bottled beer and the fried appetizers. Go eat dinner at one of the many spots up on in the Grove.

I never went to this restaurant when it was called Scotty’s Landing so my first time here was with the renovated Grove Bay Grill. I really liked the outdoor dining experience next to the bay. I went on a rainy night and because they have a roof outside, you get to enjoy eating out without having to get wet. My girlfriend and I had the Grilled Salmon Sandwich. It was a lot better than we expected considering some of the reviews that I had read previously. Overall, the food was really delicious and the service was fast. It’s a great place to relax with friends and enjoy some seafood.

I was a frequent Scotty’s Landing visitor and took some newbies for lunch on Sunday to the new Grove Bay Grill. The food is about the same quality but the service was ridiculous. We waited for an extremely long time and when our food finally arrived it was the wrong order. We had to wait another 15 mins for them to make a burger, granted they comped the burger but the damage was done. I don’t think I will be visiting«Grove bay grill» again.

Scotty’s has always been a hidden gem for Grove-ites and non-Grove-ites alike. I remember the day the petitions to save Scotty’s Landing filled my Facebook feed; I was terrified by the thought that this gem of a place, where you can sit on the bay, watching people arrive via land and sea, might be shut down and we’d have to say goodbye to yet another Miami treasure; thank goodness Grove Bay Grill came to be instead. Nestled past the drydock, in a corner that is very hard to find, it’s a great place to sit back, order some drinks, eat some delicious food and just spend time with friends for hours on end. Back when I still lived in Coconut Grove, and it was still called Scotty’s(which is what I will always call it), they had live music every Sunday. I’m not sure they still do that, but if not it’s a shame that all the newbies don’t get to enjoy a man strumming on his guitar, singing about landslides, tequila sunrises, fire and rain. Prices have gone up under the new ownership, but I expected that. The food is consistently good. I always recommend the mahi mahi(I prefer the sandwich) with steak fries(which are great). Their smoked fish dip is out of this world and so are the dolphin fingers(the fish known as mahi-mahi, people, not the mammal). Their piña colada is refreshing and prepared just right. Great service is lacking though, but this pre-dates the new ownership. I’m not sure why it is so hard to be acknowledged and have one’s order taken in the first 20 minutes of being seated, but for some reason it is; for this reason, I only give it 4 stars, instead of 5, but I will add that it doesn’t feel as annoying when this happens while looking out at the bay and the ever-hungry seagulls… just be sure you’re not in a rush to go anywhere else when you come dine here.

Atrocious service, ridiculously slow… Took over 30min for bucket of bottled beers and that was after they denied me the bucket of beers deal blatantly advertised on every napkin holder across all their tables. Sad part is the service was dreadfully slow when the place was nearly empty, then later on in the day the place didn’t have an open seat, so can only imagine how bad it was at that time. You could literally look around and see all the tables with nothing on them and guests waving hands, looking and trying to signal for service. Food was average and would normally grant a 3 star visit but not even food or views could save this place from such poor service.

I’m not sure why everyone is hating on this place so much. We have been a few times in Friday/Saturday nights for the live music and never had an issue with service. The food is decent, but the views and music make the setting great. Perfect chill place to come for a beer after a long day. Crab cakes are the best thing we had there. Steer clear of the guacamole. Fish tacos were good and burger was pretty good too!

We’re talkin’ divey, here, but the views are great & the bar food is very good. This open sided cabana bar sits behind a dry dock and overlooks the water. Parking is available out front, but take a tip from the locals and park next to City Hall immediately to the south on the weekends. A short cut around the break wall puts you right at the restaurant entrance. I had a half dozen steamed shrimp on a bed of caesar salad. Delicious. The Atlantic ocean air was so refreshing. The place filled up by early afternoon.

Pathetic experience. Went for lunch today with friends from out of town, to what was the old Scotty’s Landing Restaurant. Recently taken over by new owners. After waiting for over 30 minutes, and having our waitress keep telling us she would be right back, over and over, listening to other tables complaining, we left. The staff was a disaster, lack of training, no management, poor attitude. If this is a taste of what Grove Bay Hospitality Group, is planning for the locals in the Grove, they will fail miserably. Do not waste your time, there are better restaurants in the Grove.

Pretty solid spot, especially for having a beer and enjoying the view, which is pretty dang nice. I quite liked the conch fritters which were flavorful, piping hot, and which had lime on the side for a little(much needed) acidity. Needed salt added however. I thought these were definitely above average. Unlike the fritters, the«spicy» red seafood chowder was not something I’d bother ordering again. It had too much of a fishy taste for my liking, and it also wasn’t spicy. Service was very friendly, but slow despite a patio that was not quite half full.
