Solid Gallery Program. Newly renovated Wynwood space highlights the art work and feels like magical transport to Chelsea, NY. The Gallery has a long history(more than 20 years) and features many of Miami’s finest local artists. The dynamic diversity of the gallery artists makes each new exhibition exciting. Its like a Chinese fortune cookie, you never know what to expect, but its always fun. The Gallery art broadly ranges from figurative painting to abstract sculpture to conceptual video. Dont wait for second Saturday, this is the Gallery to see when you want an overview of the art world.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I’m very much at odds of how to handle this review because I really didn’t enjoy my visit. I did enjoy the performance art from the opera singers, but I just didn’t get the art. Hmph. The layout was acceptable. I honestly wouldn’t have even noticed that it was a gallery because from the outside it looked like a garage. I barely recognized it as I walked past later in the evening after they were closed. Bottom Line: Give it a shot and see if you like the art, but I wasn’t impressed.

I moved to Miami in 2003, and almost instantly became a huge fan and regular visitor of the Dorsch Gallery. There is a solid community of local artists represented at the gallery as well as an influx of unfamiliar, emerging and established artists from all over, making each exhibition fresh and unpredictable. You can see that each artist is challenged to present work in a new light so that we can better understand, and become amazed by, the process behind each piece. The work is just as emotional as it is aesthetic. It is a wonderland for art collectors, and damn, I wish i had enough money to be one!!! Which brings me to what else makes the gallery so great — no matter who you are and where you are from, Dorsch Gallery welcomes you with open arms. A number of free events, whether lectures or performances or roundtables, lets members of the community soak up new knowledge about the arts and have a voice in shaping the Miami art scene. The gallery has been at it for years and years, always moving with the times and never getting old. A must-visit for travelers to Miami, and for those of you who live in Miami and haven’t been — what?! are you crazy?! Go!

I have a confession to make… I lied… about being an art fan. There’s no way I can consider myself a connoisseur of the Miami Art Scene and not have stepped foot inside Dorsch Gallery until tonight! I stopped in tonight for the Bubble Art exhibit I heard on the talk thread, and went beyond the main entry hall. The raw concrete floor, the exposed masonry block work, the nooks, the crannies, the turns just beg for artistic creation. The exhibits tonight ranged from a cot made out of bank deposit bags — perfectly symbolic of the recession — to fluorescent colorful«stacks» and even a Great Pair of Legs on the floor. The coup d’grace is the outside patio where an local band was playing. It is an architectural hodgepodge of a patio slab, grass, and pavers. The patio roof itself is another marvel with two different types of wood framing. Of course, there was the requisite comp bar(which unfortunately I passed on tonight) and also a little picnic table outside. The acoustics weren’t that great, but we’re not a hoity toity concert hall but at a cool end-of-summer backyard party!
