So Dale Chiluly is back with his wonderful art at Fairchild. This is the third time the renowned artist has displayed his art in conjunction with nature in Miami. So to capitalize on the endeavor, Fairchild Tropical Gardens is charging members $ 25 to enter the garden after 5 pm to see the various glass exhibits lit up at night. Non-members pay $ 35 to experience the exhibit at night if not entering during the day. For $ 50 non-members can stay all day from 7:30 am until 9:00 pm on Thursdays or Sundays(non-festival days). So after some contemplation I decided to take the plunge to see the Chiluly exhibit at night. Well the best time and only time to view the exhibits is just at sunset and twilight – and that time is very short. That said it is not worth the $ 25 or even $ 50 to view Chiluly glass at night. Don’t waste your money. The best experience is early in the morning when the Garden opens at 7:30 pm and spending the day there. A few visits allow you to check out different areas of the Garden and the changes as the sun makes its rotation through the day until sunset. There are 2 exhibits that are neon and best viewed at night. One is in the rare fruit pavilion and the other is the big installation in the low lands. Unfortunately both exhibits are not working 100%. The installation in the fruit pavilion has two blue neon pieces and only one has been working since the exhibit opened and has not been fixed. The large exhibit in the lowlands on 2÷1÷2015 had portions flickering and some portions not lit at all at the top left and right areas(looking east). Seems like the Chiluly people should make sure their displays are working. Once the sun sets, it is recommended to bring a flashlight to get around. We made the rounds viewing the exhibits as the sun was setting and then after sunset. We were not impressed viewing the exhibits at night, nothing special. So don’t waste your money on Chiluly Nights at Fairchild.
