I was really sad to see this place close after a run of 23 years. Of course I have not been coming here for 23 years lol, but I have for maybe 8 or 9(that’s something, right). Hopefully they reopen somewhere else on South Beach, but hopefully they give more attention to the quality of the fish this time. After all it is a sushi place. that has been a noticeable decline over the recent years, the stuff is great but the sushi is(was) guilty of being very bland and tasteless over the past couple of years.

It may have been an off night, but I was definitely not impressed with quality of fish or sauces on side. I ordered 2 cucumber wrapped rolls. Cucumber was not cut thin, and fish was mediocre. Also ordered 1 ikura sushi — ikura was not fresh at all. Again — maybe an off night, but will not order again.

Are you kidding me? I ordered delivery at Maiko one night and it was terrible… I could barely eat the roll I ordered, the flavor and texture were disgusting. Not even the dumplings… ughh. It is certainly a «not to put on my list» place with hole-in-the-wall food.

After waiting 1 ½ hours for delivery. And still no food I can not even reach them no answer on the phone.

Really chill sushi place. I’ve only eaten inside the restaurant plenty of times but haven’t ordered delivery yet. I love their rolls. They have a huge selection with a lot of variety of rolls on the menu. The waiters are really nice too!

Impressed. Lobster roll was really good. Prices ok. Service good although our waitress struggled to open the bottle of wine.

Excelente! Um dos melhores sushis que já comi. O atum extremamente fresco, o arroz de qualidade. Peça o dynamite lobster. Você não se arrependerá!

Extremely disappointing. When I lived in Miami Beach 15 years ago this was one of the best places on the beach to get sushi. I moved back a few months ago and tried Maiko again tonight via delivery. I would describe tonight’s food as uninspired and tasteless. In addition, I was disappointed by the fact that one of my favorite dishes, gomae, was mislabeled on the online menu, and instead we got boiled spinach with some sort of brothy soy sauce(ohitashi), not the peanut buttery«sesame seed sauce» as described. That was a quick waste of $ 10.50! Finally, they forgot to put chopsticks in our delivery bag, which just led to an overall irritating dining experience.

After spending the day on South Beach, I was looking for something a bit upscale and was planning on eating Italian food. However, I was strolling down Washington Avenue with my girlfriend and for some reason this place caught my eye. After reading some glowing reviews on my phone, we tried the place out. The first thing I noticed was the menu had many interesting rolls. Perhaps this is Miami, but I was a bit surprised, and further surprised by the fact that many of the rolls seemed to come with either cream cheese or scallions?! This certainly is not typical, but once we got past this, it was all smooth sailing. We ordered the California, Caterpillar, Rainbow, Kissing and the California Eel Roll. The size of the sushi was surprisingly large and was fantastic. All in all, having had good sushi in New York, Vancouver, Seattle, California, etc; I can say that without a doubt, this is amongst the better options if you aren’t going for the absolute best or priciest sushi out there. The only reasons I give this restaurant 4 stars is the massive menu and the rather strange combinations which are a bit less than traditional for my liking.

Just had delivery from them using . This has been a great experience. I would have given this 5 stars had it not been for the size of the rolls. I am not a big fan of large rolls as i think they are hard to eat in one bite(but thats just me). The Shrimp tempura was awesome. The packaging was very thought out. They put in plastic container so the condensation would not ruin the food. They kept the rolls from sliding around by using plastic wrap, they included eel sauce and soy sauce and the ginger was a nice color(fresh) and so was the wasabi. I definitely recommend this place and will definitely repeat! p. s. they delivered within 25 minutes

My husband & I are Miami Beach proper locals, going on 12 years. This place was one of our first dates shortly after we met. It was actually where we randomly escaped after an unpleasant encounter w/my ex-beau late night. We had a fantastic bonding experience over the most incredible sushi, sashimi, soup, & staff! We’ve been regulars ever since. Here we are 6 years later, married, still sitting at our fav table, ordering our fav dishes, & the best part… Our fav servers are still here! Props to Yui & Juan! Thank you for all the love & incredible service over the years! Oh, and the sushi — alway fresh & it’s obviously apparent that it’s thoughtfully picked w/love! One of a kind family owned biz passed down through generations, almost 20 years! Not fancy and definitely NOT fast food sushi! –Amber & Joshua Stedman

Wow. Pretty underwhelming. Popped in here for a dinner after reading all your positive reviews — what’s going on? Are all these reviews from tourists? I’ve rarely left more than half of my food on my plate before. Two rolls that both had elements that made them barely edible. I had a king crab and eel type of roll and another, that honestly, I can’t recall anything about. You know when you have to spit something out into your napkin because you can’t seem to get it properly chewed? That shouldn’t happen with a sushi roll. Service was the bare minimum of effort. This was just sad.

Really don’t see what’s the big deal with this place, the location and service stink and the sushi isn’t fresh, quality of the fish is almost as bad as iron sushi but still these people for the audacity to charge high prices for that crap they serve there, guess you can live on reputation alone, can’t you?

Although I had no intention of coming to this restaurant, or even having Japanese food for that matter, life had other plans. I had initially come to Washington Avenue in the mood to have Middle Eastern food, and curious to try Tahini Mediterranean Grill, which had great reviews. Unfortunately, upon arriving, I found that they also became a casualty of the beach’s desire to make every other restaurant in the area a Latin spot, as if there weren’t enough already. Feeling disappointed, I walked by Maiko and thought it looked nice enough and decided to try it. I was not excited at first as this was not what I had been craving, but the waiter quickly changed my mind. He was very friendly and engaging, and put a smile on my face. My friend decided to get a sushi and sashimi combo, which is pretty typical of Japanese restaurants(and if you ask me, somewhat unoriginal but that’s my friend for you), and I was about to get the Yakisoba noodles until I saw another more enticing option: Korean noodles. Okay, I was in the mood for exotic food and although I originally wanted Middle Eastern, this was definitely in the realm of exotic, especially since I had never tried Korean noodles. This would fit the bill just fine. It promised to be spicy, another plus for me as I love spicy foods. The prices seemed pretty reasonable, especially considering South Beach. A green salad was less than $ 3 and sounded like a refreshing, cool option on a warm Florida day so I decided to order that as an appetizer. To drink, I ordered green tea, which did not have the typical«fishy» flavor of green teas, and I was surprised that they ended up bringing an entire carafe from which I could help myself. The salad came out and it was heavy on the ginger dressing. Nice! I hate how certain places(*cough*BENIHANA*cough*) skimp out on the dressing and water it down so much that it becomes runny, or put the equivalent of a table spoon of dressing. This dressing was thick, plentiful and had the strong flavor of ginger that it should have. It also had shredded carrots, cucumber and cherry tomatoes and was of a decent size for the price. My friend got his order of sushi, sashimi and teriyaki steak and it looked nice enough. The fish was bright and had the strong color of freshness and decent quality. His steak was tender, and he was happy. I really liked my Korean noodles, which consisted of buckwheat noodles in a kimchee broth and vegetables and a choice of chicken or pork(I chose chicken). The broth reminded me of Tom Yum, and was somewhat hot. It had cilantro, as well as other vegetables. The server was having fun at my friend’s expense, as he was shocked at witnessing some flamboyant street behavior…“Welcome to South Beach” said our waiter. Indeed. Because it’s smack-dab in the middle of Washington Avenue, Maiko makes for some pretty good people-watching, just as good if not better than Lincoln Road. Service was friendly and attentive throughout, although I wished I had been able to get dessert but as you may know from reading other reviews of mine, my friend, who does not like sweet things, would not budge. Parking was not bad at all, we found a spot on the street without wasting any time, just don’t forget to feed the meter and remember your car’s tag numbers/letters as the meter will ask for them. Although I came in fresh with disappointment, I left pleasantly surprised, enough to make this a spot to return to for Japanese on South Beach.

Found it on Unilocal. Had some great really unqiue dishes — conch and raw strips of marinated beef — YUM! Also had a HUGE portion of chicken curry — absolutely delish curry. The ambience is a little weird, as was our waiter — but in a way that reminded me of new york so that’s cool — would probably be fun to go there with a big crowd — alone with mom and only 1 other table at 4pm(late lunch, not early dinner for us) was not so much *fun* but the food was very good

The food was poor. I ordered chicken teriyaki. For $ 15, I was expecting an identifiable piece of chicken breast that was grilled and nicely sliced. Instead, I received little shreds and bits of boiled chicken with a funky taste… kind of like dog food. The sauce was pale, salty, and very watery. The vegetable medley was soggy and lackluster. Even their miso soup was below average. Meh. Sidenote: Their delivery woman was pretty incompetent. She went to the wrong apartment twice. I had to go down to the lobby and hope that she was still there. Would. Not. Order. Ever. Again.
