The yellowfin tuna tartare is amazingly refreshing on a hot day. It was served ice cold and crunchy and had the exact amount of sweet and savory for my taste. Divine! The black bean soup is also outstanding. I’m not a fan of this traditional dish because I find it too salty and heavy but Joe’s makes it vegetarian style as a purée and it was perfect, and the crunch of the tortilla strips offset the velvety smoothness of the soup. Highly recommended. Skip the green salad. It really is just a few lettuce leaves on a plate with a mediocre dressing. Service as usual was attentive without being intrusive. We were there for a late lunch and were the last ones left in the place and never once felt like we were overstaying our welcome. A great neighborhood place.

I was surprised, it was a little better, then good, it was very good. The Lamb Ravioli, was excellent, the sauce had a middle eastern flair that provided that little extra zing! The service was above par, where the wait staff, actively asked if there was anything they could do.

A great bistro spot off the beaten path. If you live in SB you know about it, but if you don’t you will never find it. Really nice atmosphere and would recommend making a reservation. I have had pretty much 70% of the items on the menu and a MUST is the Mussel appetizer. It is really enough for a main dish so you can split it with someone else. Probably my favorite main dish is the chicken in matzo meal. The menu is great for all type of eaters and well priced.

I’m a fan, have been for years! But it is a bit of a secret, and you have to know how to find it! Once you do, you will never forget. After a long day at Art Basel, this was the perfect destination. The food is great, American, with a twist, always huge portions, huge menu, delicious and reasonable. For some reason I always sit at the French bar, and get treated so well, I admire the simple Deco interior, an old style bar, seems to me just fitting, with hard boiled eggs on top for the offering. It’s like a reminder of my Paris days. Wines by the glass are stellar. Order anything. Salads are huge, appetizers perfect, any main will do. I have many wonderful dishes from quesadillas to sandwiches, fish stew, perfect roasted chicken. And for dessert, it will be tough to choose. This time was an apple tart that was shaped like a muffin. Divine!

Went for lunch today the food is good. Very good quality, and a very big selection to choose from. To me this place feels like more of a dinner place it was not very crowded only a few tables. The menu it quite pricey for lunch around $ 20-$ 25 pp for lunch. I got a blackened grilled cajin chicken sandwich $ 12.50. It came with fries, and I asked if I could get soemthing else. They offer at no extra charge a huge side ceasar or house salad, broccoli, spinach, mashed potatoes, or green beans. NICE ! I don’t need to be eating fried food so I like a restaurant that gives a nice selection of veggies instead of french fries. The service was very good, altough it should be considering it was not that crowded. Food qaulity very good, bit pricey.

This is a South Beach staple! When you don’t know what you are feeling like, drop by Joe Allen’s they’ve got it all. They also have a very good brunch!

Good stuff in this little building on Purdy ave. I thought I hated meatloaf growning up it was always left on my plate… But, the meatloaf at Joe Allens is soooooo flippin’ good… sides are garlic mashed potatoes and sauteed broccoli… excellent comfort food huge portion so either be really hungry or share your plate Ive also had their calamari appetizer. sooooo crunchy and light and fresh… no rubber rings here and they have a diabla mariana sauce for dipping that pairs with the lil squids perfectly My ex-boss swore by their burgers… im still yet to try one as for the resturant, u slightly feel like your in an interegation room on law and order… dark, stark walls and fans… but the food is consistently good and service as well…

A nice, unpretentious place on the west side of Alton Rd. Off the beaten path. No glitz, no flash, no tourists. Nice mix of menu items from lamb to meatloaf to salads, etc. Reasonable wine list. Just nice. I’m glad the locals took me there.

I stopped by for lunch. I had the pan-roasted tilapia with red wine sauce, mashed potatoes, and sauteed broccoli($ 18). PROS&CONS: + nice ambience(better for dinner) + good service + good complimentary bread & butter + cute individual sized pitchers for your refills(for tea or water) + big portions — definitely will fill you up + one of the best tilapia I’ve had in a very very very long time. — pricey(tilapia is only what, $ 1 to $ 5 per pound unless if you shop at Whole Foods — so what’s the deal with $ 18?! And don’t come for lunch expecting lunch prices — there simply isn’t one) — sides were just okay. The mashed potatoes were too much; the sauteed broccoli was just okay, not seasoned enough(but the lemon, butter for the bread, and the red wine sauce for the tilapia all helped). so if i’m coming here again, it probably would make sense to come for dinner so i could justify the prices a bit more(and the ambience would be even more intimate)

I love this place. I eat at Joe Allen’s ~ once per week. The menu is long but I only order a few things off it. The food is always good, the service is excellent. All my friends are there. The bar is a great place to sit. The martinis are my favorite in South Beach. The most ample parking on South Beach. My favorites are the Warm Spinach and Goat Cheese Salad, Steak Tartar, and Rice Crispie Treat.

An overall great restaurant. It’s low key, local, and has great service(something very hard to come by in Miami). I’ve had a few different things on the menu, but my favorite is the beet salad. It has beets, endives, and goat cheese. It’s a decent sized salad and I am always so happy to have a veggie plate that looks as if they put some care into putting them together. The beets are hearty, the endives are crunchy, and the dressing is just right. I also love their iced tea. When you order it they give you your own little refill pitcher, which I think is just the cutest thing ever. The people I have gone with(who are not vegetarian) have ordered the hamburgers. They said they were really good. The crowd is a mix of families, old folks, and the random young local. I love going here with my grandma because they are really patient with older people– you know, people who don’t remember what they ordered. It’s quiet in their during lunch time– a bit dark too. But, it’s all good. It makes this place different from other places on the beach.

First, unless you have an address you would never run into the place. Second, if you were standing outside the place you would never get any idea of what it is like inside. Opening the door reveals the pleasant surprise to a hidden cove away from the surrounding area. If there is a theme for the food I am not sure what it is and it is an interesting mix. All of us at the table were satisfied but not amazed.

I eat here at least once a week. The food is always consistent. The black bean soup is amazing. The la scala salad is simple but great. Bread is always warm. Fish and chicken entrees always good. Old style of veggie stew is missed but new versian is ok. Everyone loves the bolognese. Glasses of wine are oversized. Desserts stand out– toll house cookies, date bread pudding, rice krispies treats… My party of regulars is often asked to «keep it down” — Joe Allen gets us that excited. Go to Joe Al on a weeknight with good friends for good food.

Excellent ambience and quality service. Joe Allen is the perfect spot for a long quiet dinner where you will not be able to decide what to order. Everything on the menu sounds mouth watering with perfect food, side and sauce pairings. Right off of the new Venetian causeway on Purdy Ave., the location offers plenty of metered parking and a nice view of the bay. Just don’t miss it… look for the neon blue sign.
