To make a long story very short, the operator/owner is a nut job and I would avoid this place as like the plague. I had my credit card charged without my permission and this guy at one point, simply walked into my room. No knocking or anything. STAYAWAY.

On the way back from Ohio this time around, we wanted to avoid the other ABV in Grand Rivers, but still needed a place to stay. After looking around the Paducah area, we found the ABV across the river in Metropolis for about $ 15 cheaper than anything on the KY side. Pulling in around 8pm, there is no covered entry way… just the lot and a door with a neon open sign — how quaint. As we pulled up, we noticed lots of rooms with open doors and trash bags outside — something you normally see around noon as housekeeping is at work. There were also several folks walking the property, none of which looked particularly friendly. Pulling up next to the front door, I hop out and one of the guys who was walking around was now behind the desk. «Hello, let me finish texting my boss real quick» was the first thing I heard. No problem. Check in was painless and quick, and after learning that 3 events in the area in the last 3 days made for a busy weekend, especially when all your staff quits, I realize now why the place looks to be in so much disarray. But that’s not the only reason. Oh no. This place is like an old 1950’s travel motel. small, boxy rooms. On the outside, this place is ghetto. The place probably hasn’t seen much work on the outside in about 50 years or so. There are low-rent apartments next door with easy access to the ABV lot, so make sure your car is locked and you have good insurance — just in case. The room itself was renovated recently. The now staple orange wall with flat panel tv that most hotels now are using was present, as was the faux hardwood floors. The king bed was decent — nothing like you get at a business hotel — but noisy. The room had a fridge and microwave and, like i said, a flat tv – yay, netflix! Not quite. The wifi, while connectable, barely allows surfing speed, let alone video. So for travelers just needing to send email and stuff, the wifi will be fine. For everyone else, well, good luck. The room itself was clean — a far cry from the ABV30 minutes away. The only ‘dirty’ thing about it was a hand towel with what appeared to be a coffee stain on it. The air conditioner works, but is loud and since it is automatic, has a tendency to turn off, then within 30 seconds, turn back on, which woke me up a couple of times. The exterior wall(or the door, i can’t figure out which) is paper thin. Some folks were outside enjoying the nice weather last night and they could be heard clear as day inside, with the AC and the tv on. Oh, and the TV does have cable… so whoever said it didn’t, they do now. So, will I stay here again? If i’m on a budget and need a place nearby, then maybe. I may try paying $ 8 more for the super 8 down the road — it was new and closer to the highway. The only major downside to me of this place is its location and the exterior, I really don’t feel safe in this area. So keep that in mind when making your reservation.
