Recently I bought a puppy from a breeder. The puppy had been seen November 29, 2012 by the vet this day had a check-up and was dewormed and given shots. You know, awesome puppy stuff. I picked the puppy up on the 30th, the next day. Anywho, I have the dog for a couple days and notice extreme itching, worms in her stool, she’s infested with fleas, and has open bloody scabs all around her neck, on her ears, on her bare belly, and around her hips, as well as hairless scabby spots on her. Now, if you are a vet, doing a check up on a 6 week old puppy, how can you possibly miss these significant factors? Shouldn’t you be trained to check for these things? Don’t get me wrong, my issue is with this breeder. There’s no reason for a puppy six weeks of age, no more than 2.14 pounds to be infested with fleas and tape worms. Shame on this vet for not being aware & not being equipped to do his job. I called the vet to make sure the shots and deworming actually happened. They said the puppy was fine. And I told them about the fleas and scabs, etc. They notified me that puppies are very hard to care for. I thanked them because it’s not like I raised another puppy flawlessly and never ran into any of these problems, especially at that young of an age. End sarcasm. Now, I love animals. I’m going to school to be an animal cruelty investigator(something this breeder has no clue about– should have warned her) and if this puppy hadn’t been sold to me and if I hadn’t taken her to the vet– all 2.14 pounds of her would be dead. The tape worms would have eaten all her nutrients until she starved to death, or the fleas would have gotten so bad(itching and all) she would have gotten an infection and died that way. Very cruel and horrible way to go, I’d say! When I took my brand new puppy to MY vet, not even 5 days later, you know what he told me? Well, first he was shocked that my particular puppy was bought from a breeder. He told me the shape she was in was equivalent to the healthiness of a stray cat someone would bring in. My pup was diagnosed with worms, a 2nd degree skin infection, and severe fleas. All which were treated by the skilled vet at clinton trails pet hospital in jackson mi! If this vet is this breeders main vet, I’d be very worried going to him. If he’d let a puppy in that condition go home. Then that really tells you just how horrible of a vet/person he is. Him not treating my pup and letting this condition spread to all the animals in that household is horrible. I sincerely hope those little ones and the mother survive. I just hope my voice does not go unheard. PS: The 1 star selected is for the receptionist who answered the phone. She was a gem.
