Discovery Health & Science Academy

There are 550+ kids enrolled and another 550+ on the waitlist right now… and for good reason. KDHSA opened last year and already has a great reputation for academics and a very, very involved group of parents. We entered the admission lottery for PreK (you have to pay tuition for PreK, but K and up is free) and ended up with a not-​so-​great position on the waitlist. Somehow, 2 – 3 months later, I got a phone call saying she was in. Woo!
So far, two weeks into the school year, she loves her school and teachers, as do I. Yay for the Swamp Owls!

This is a new charter school in Jefferson Parish. The founder, Patty Glaser, also worked with Lusher for years. Before opening this fall, they held numerous parent meetings with their board and I liked everything they had to say. Patty said the board members did not have to attend every meeting and they showed up anyway. They were all very passionate about educating our youth in the best way possible. It starts at pre-​k and will eventually go up to 12^th grade. Since this is their first year, it only goes up to 6^th grade and will continue to grow year after year.
I was nervous about where to send my children once they finished their elementary school and this school opening was my saving grace.
The teachers and staff are dedicated and awesome group of people. they will tell you right away that if you are not the type of parent that plays an active role in your childs education then this ins not the school for you.
