I recently took the Introduction class here, which was 6 weeks long for $ 110($ 10 goes to pay for insurance). It was a small class(just me and my friend) so we got a lot of really awesome individualized instruction and attention. We spent 3 classes learning how to use the traditional foil and 3 classes learning how to use the saber. Each weapon has its own technique and rules. Each class starts with a stretching warmup and then a cardio warmup. The warmup is good exercise and also a fun way to work on coordination and balance. The rest of the class is devoted to learning moves(block/attacks). The last 15 minutes or so of class are usually spent doing actual sparring with a partner. This is the most fun part!(and most exhausting). After completing the intro class, you can move on to Beginner Saber or Beginner Foil(you have to pick 1, they don’t recommend taking both at the same time, since the rules and technique are different). The downside is that Beginner Saber is only offered from 5 – 6 pm on certain days, so if you are a working person it’d be a little difficult to make it to those classes. Incidentally, the students at this center mostly seem to be younger, like high school students who are in it to compete competitively. If you are interested in Beginner Saber it’s $ 95/month for 1 class per week. You can also sign up for open practice where you get to spar with other students of the center. If fencing is a hobby/sport you are interested in, I highly recommend this center. At least try the Intro class and see how you like it!
