Shemshaki Kamran,DMD

I have gone to the Mercer Island office for 5 years and seen both Dr. Shemshaki and Dr. Sarang then switched to their Bellevue one for the last 3 because it’s closer. They both are experienced and always do a careful job. I just see one if the other is booked up. Braces can be expensive so I compared different places in the area and Dr. Shemshaki’s prices were reasonable plus I already trusted him having done my fillings, and it was a smooth process.

This office’s front desk person is an absolute moron and the dentist is unethical. I had a terrible experience and would not recommend that anyone go there. If your insurance forces you to go there, be sure to ask for an ALTERNATE provider. They are in business for making money ONLY not for providing care.

I’ve been to Dr. Shemshaki for 15 years and have found him superb. Caring and skillful! He knows what he’s doing!

I’ve seen Dr. Shemshaki for nearly four years now. I’ve found him to be a skilled, careful and gentle dentist that is truly concerned about the quality of his work. His staff has been consistently courteous and professional, and I’ve never had to wait one minute when I arrive for an appointment. I would recommend his practice without reservation.

The receptionist at this office, Sandy, provides very poor customer service. I had to use this dentist because I had Cigna and it was the only dentist on Mercer Island that would be covered. I had a couple fillings done at two separate appointments. In between appointments I was in some pain and needed to come in, Sandy flat out told me no and that I had to wait for the next appointment, they could not see me. I made it clear that I was in pain and needed to get in for an adjustment that would probably have taken them 5 minutes, she did not care in the least, did not go and ask the doctor, nothing. Just said no.
When I finally was able to leave this dentist, getting my x-​rays forwarded to my new dentist was like pulling teeth — no pun intended. I left 3 voice mails. No return call. Finally I went in to the office to get my x-​rays and Sandy told me I had to fill out a form authorizing it and it would take a week at least. I have yet to get my x-​rays.
The dentist himself seemed OK but because of the horrible front desk situations with Sandy I will not see this dentist ever again.

Dr. Shemshaki is a talented and experienced dentist. His assistants have good technique with teeth cleaning which is important to me because I have sensitive teeth. Sandy, his receptionist is very pleasant and I have been going to this dentist for three years of regular visits.

Oh my god, Howie, I wrote that other review. I’m so frusterated because I’m now searching for another dentist because of their completely rude front office. 7 weeks to 3 months between appointments is not cool. I lost my cool the 2^nd or 3^rd time they misbooked me…
Sad because the actual dentist was pretty good… too bad the staff he hired to support him don’t know how to scheule appointments, keep them, or appologize and make room when they make mistakes.
They must have hired her from the DMV or INS or something.
When I make a mistake, I at least make an effort to MAKE up for it. even if it wasn’t my fault. It’s just basic human courtesy.
I’ll let you know who I find that I like… My insurance plan is REALLY restrictive so my options are few… I’m going to Dr. Smith in Redmond tomorrow. we shall see.

I had an appointment with Shemshaki on Aug 14. I had to wait three weeks for the appointment because of the backup.
On Aug 13, I get a call from the dentist’s office.
Receptionist: «Hello? May I speak to Howie?»
Me: «This is he»
Receptionist: «I’m calling from Dr. Shemshaki’s office to remind you of your appointment»
Me: «Yes, tomorrow at 10:30»
Receptionist: «See you tomorrow»
When I arrived at the office on August 14 at 10:27am, the receptionist gives me a blank stare.
Receptionist: «Are you Howie»
Me: «Yes»
Receptionist: «We can’t see you today. Your appointment was at 10 and it’s already 10:30»
WHAT??? Yesterday, I confirmed my appointment was at 10:30 and today it somehow became 10:00. The receptionist didn’t apologize one bit for the mix up. When I asked her about yesterday’s phone call, she simply gave ambiguous answers about how she has many things to do, has many calls to make, and doesn’t remember the conversation. Funny, since when I walked in the office, she was staring into space.
The receptionist says her first available appointment is September 14, ONE MONTH LATER. Total time from initial call to appointment: 7 weeks.
Apparently, my experience is not unique. Here is someone else who’s had scheduling problems:
