As a volunteer here– I can only say the best about the staff(all volunteer!!!) and our wonderful animals. Every baby to senior here is well cared for and well loved. You get attached to them quickly and it’s bittersweet when they get adopted but it’s the best thing in the world to see one of the dogs or cats you fell in love with is also loved by a family willing to take them home and make them their furbaby. Non-profits can sometimes suffer from neglect or lack of caring volunteers and I am happy to say the Merced SPCA suffers from neither. It’s a great place to volunteer for animal lovers and a super great place to adopt your next family member from!

Wonderful shelter — the volunteers that care for these animals and keep the place going are absolutely amazing people! They greet you kindly when you walk in the door and answer any questions you have. The animals are well cared for and very friendly. It’s so hard to pick only one! If you’re thinking about adopting an animal, please check this place out. Adopting adult pets especially makes a big difference. Often times the puppies and kittens are selected first while the older ones continue waiting for their family. We adopted an adult cat named Dogette and it was an amazing decision — she is the best! Thank you to Merced Spca and all of the caring volunteers :)

I recently posted that this was not a good place, but after thinking about it, I need to amend that. My gripe was that a no-kill shelter is not necessarily humane, as the animals just stay there for life, unless someone adopts them. I still hold that belief, but to take it out on the folks at Merced SPCA is like going to McDonald’s and then complaining when I find meat in my burger(that’s another forum topic for another day). The bottom line is that everyone I met there was very kind and helpful, and they all obviously care very much about what happens to their charges. And I’m guessing that most of them do it for free. So, apologies to anyone who read my previous post, and carry on the good work!
