Unexpected necessary stoppage help! Excuse the long-​winded story in advance…
So, while my fiancé and I were about at the halfway point driving from Chicago back to Western MA for Christmas last weekend, we rounded that awful 35 MPH bend on I90 East just past Cleveland (worst piece of road on 90? I think yes…) and suddenly started hearing a very strange rattling noise coming from below the car.
Immediately worried, due to the car being 10 years old, although only having about 65k miles on it and purring fairly smoothly to-​date, we needed to gas up and jumped off the highway.
While using the gas station facilities, we peered underneath the car to see a fairly rusted metal piece towards the right front side of the car hanging off the bottom. Upon my thought to just see how loose it was, the rusted piece of metal immediately fell off the car and into my hand.
We fired up the smartphones and GPS which led us to this Sears Auto Center conveniently just on the other side of I90 a mile or so away. Upon arrival, the man who greeted us concerned-​faced folks gave a hearty laugh and quickly explained it was the heat shield and they «rip those off all the time». He quelled our concerns within a flat 3 minutes and we safely continued to Niagara Falls, before safely arriving where we still are now in Western MA.
You just won’t catch us parking above a pile of leaves anytime soon… haha!!!
