Icons is an accurate reflection of Albert, the proprietor. I have been a customer for at least a decade. There is a reason why I keep coming back. Albert is an amazing, kind, knowledgeable, and generous guy. His love of Beatles and discography shows in his inventory. One of my highlights in visiting Mendo is visiting Albert and Icons. Anyone who thinks Albert is anything less than the textbook version of first-rate customer service is on some exceptionally strong local dope. Please share.

Neat store but the owner is an over dramatic and mean guy. I turned a page on his precariously perched book fell by me which startled me and strained a muscle. His first condescending response… ‘Is my book ok? Yes your book is fine. Thanks for caring. And then he runs over to check it to decide to see if he should charge ME for it. Bad excuse for a human.

I love this shop. Friendly owners, interesting selection of vinyl, art, and books. Well curated options and a great place to find gifts for people who are tough to shop for.

You feel like you met the lead singer of the Grateful Dead when you walk into this eclectic shop. What a lovely man with his records, world religion area, funky gifts, and my favorite. photography by Jon Klein. Worth the visit!

Albert is a very personable guy who enjoys what he does and it shows through his customer service. His little gem of a shop has all kinds of artwork, photographs and good energy/vibe related stuff. I spent $ 150 here because of the rare stuff Icons has to offer!

Albert has a great selection of used records, mainly late ‘60s and early ‘70s, as well as a few new releases. I’ve purchased several used LPs, and they all sound great. They weren’t bargain basement prices, but unlike the bad experiences I’ve had on eBay with used vinyl, these have all been in nice condition. So if you’re getting back into vinyl, check this place out. And chat with Albert. He’s a cool guy who loves music, and will steer you to something old that might be completely new to you.

I wasn’t too sure if I would find anything in this place of interest. I am not too much on the hippie tip and quite honestly this was one of our last stops in downtown-it was raining, I was tired and I was kind of over shopping. What a nice little surprise this place was though! I found some prints and giclee’s of great local artists. My two favorites were prints by Jon Klein(who I later got to meet in person at the NorthCoast Artists gallery in Fort Bragg) and Yarrow Summers(who I ALSO got to meet earlier in the day at the art show at the Mendocino Art Center). I bought some postcard prints of Jon’s work. The owner and his wife were so friendly and helpful. They had some other fun little gifts and it’s a great shop.

Whoever does the buying for this store has a lot of unique interests. * They sell used records. So they won the Mr. over right there. He got some Small Faces and other stuff he loves. * They also sell Fillmore posters and other hippie memorabilia. Lots of Zappa stuff(wowie zowie). And I bought a sign for my dad that says, «Hippies Use the Back Door. No Exceptions.» * They have a lot of local art, photography and paintings. * And for the final twist, you can get your religious supplies here. The Buddhist and other meditative stuff, I expected. The yamakas? Not so much. What, no rosaries or hair shirts? It’s a jumble of stuff that delighted and entertained us, and it was the only store in town where we spent any money. So I’m going to say they cater to a broader demographic than a lot of the other places in town.

Stopped in on Monday, he has a great(small but growing) collection of vinyl for sale. I don’t remember their names, but both are as friendly and helpful as can be. Also a fun selection of postcards, his taste has some Beatles & Marley emphesis but is not limited to a few ‘cult’ styles. Highly recommended, I hope to see the shop grow.
