We visited this shop while at the Peabody. The owner was super sweet & chatted with us for a long time. The prices where kinda high but it was located in the Peabody so it was expected. They had a wide selection of unique stuff, jewelry & artwork. The owner definitely made the experience fun!

There is no doubt in my mind that the two dudes that work here take this place up an extra notch of quirky, eclectic and fun. Seriously– they are off the wall and I love this little fact. I assume one would have to be a tad bit eccentric when spending 40 hours a week confined behind these doors. On the whole, it reminds me a lot of my Grandma’s basement. I guess that is if she were either Asian or European, incredibly wealthy(seriously wealthy– some of these pieces will set you back about $ 5,000 bucks) and if her basement wasn’t musty but more of a museum. I’ve never seen so many crazy stone pieces in my life. Buddha and dragon statues aside, there is a really great collection of antique jewelry here. Not sure where the prices lie concerning those items, but I found myself wishing I could have gotten our wedding bands and my engagement ring here. We had a very hard time finding anything that looked vintage, let alone a true antique, when buying our rings. I could have spent a good hour with my nose up against those glass jewelry cases, I can only imagine the history that comes with each of those bedazzled jewels. *sigh* Don’t fret, there are still some items here that are easy on the wallet– just so you can take a piece of Samuel home with you. You can get tiny Buddha’s, dragons and eggs for under 10 bucks if you find yourself a tad bit short of the 5−10k it would cost you to get that huge Buddha to sit atop your floor.

Located in the Peabody Hotel, Samuel Nathan Galleries is a treasure trove of wonders. Filled with jade, ivory(pre-1970), wood, Japanese screens, Oriental rugs, etc., every nook and cranny is filled with Asian/Eastern artworks. It’s like a museum organized by your crazy aunt. But with the bonus/torture that you can buy the pieces. While the best items are hundreds/thousands/tens of thousands of dollars, you can find polished stone«eggs» for $ 2.99 and other budget-friendly items. Best of all, you can buy online(free shipping)!
