This is one of my all-time-favorite highland st bars. Sadly they switched to 21+, but that’s only because they didn’t have a problem serving up the occasional youngling back in the day, and the rowdy college students took advantage of this fact; being loud, obnoxious, and disrespectful, and really just ruining the atmosphere. So even though I’m no longer old enough to go inside, I greatly respect their decision to make the switch. Scotty is one of the nicest guys around, and is incredibly accommodating. Occasionally lets me in the bar even though I’m not 21, because he knows I am a loyal customer who genuinely loves what they’re doing over there. Although I’m not supposed to know this, they have a delicious Irish Car Bomb, and though it’s kindof pricy, the drink comes in 2s. I’ve tried everything on their menu, from the Pizza Bread, to their classic Cheeseburger, and it is all worth a try. Their ingredients are of the highest quality, locally sourced when possible, and the effort they put into sourcing their ingredients really bleeds into the quality of their food… As I said before, absolutely amazing. Bottom line, this is my favorite bar on the street, and I can’t wait until I’m legally old enough to show my patronage again.

It’s a damn hole in the wall, but the beer flows and Wednesday trivia rocks! They have a great staff, good food and a nice deal on beer pitchers. And like the name implies, they’ve got 5 pool tables.

I come to this place pretty often because their prices are very reasonable for both beer and food. Their hotdogs are famously delicious, and they often have beer and drink specials. Their trivia night on Wednesday is amusing and never crowded. They have tons of pool tables and they have tv’s to watch the Grizzlies games of course! And Scotty the bar tender is a really interesting character and a nice guy. It gets a little crowded and loud on Fridays when it gets packed with frat boys and undergrads, but it’s my go to place during the week when I just want to chill somewhere low key and have a beer with a friend.

Okay first off, it’s a bar. You want 5 star material? Go elsewhere. But, that’s the point! It’s a pool hall beside the college! The drinks are plentiful, the prices are good, and the food? I’ll get to that in a minute. Negative point: there were BIG groups of people walking in and taking the tables when I asked to reserve one since we were almost done with our meals. Of course they couldn’t just ask them to leave, but I could tell they were a little distressed at that. But it is fine! Why is it fine you ask? Well, the food. I came in with low expectations, and left with my billiards fix, and a full stomach of food that I didn’t have to force myself to eat. The pizzas are phenomenal, to me, along with the cheese fries, and the desserts were fantastic! The ambiance is a typical pool hall, but the service was beyond typical, I wasn’t bothered every 5 minutes, nor was I just forgotten about. And best of all, it’s only a 2 minute drive from my house! You’ve got my business!

This place is often missed and often written off as just a college hang out. Yes it is by the U of M and yes there are college kids there but, to say it is a college bar is off base. A college bar is normally loud and rowdy and reeks of beer and other fluids you’d rather not think about. This is not R.P. Billards. My friend and I go time to time for a laid back girls night. The drinks are good the food is a step above bar food. I almost always get the Chi town imposter. Which is a hot dog smothered with sauerkraut, sweet relish, two tomatoes, pickle slices and celery salt. It is delicious and not too much food. Scotty who is often the bartender on duty(you’ll spot him he is generally wearing a top hat) is amazing. Both bartenders are great at being personable but, not over bearing. The atmosphere is laid back, not noisy, not crazy and the drinks are pretty awesome but, strong. Try the Carmel appletini or a bloody brain which tastes like those candy peach rings delicious. Don’t write this place off as a college bar check it out give it a try and sit near the bar. I will also add don’t order the milkshake martini or any top shelf for that matter. I enjoy it but, I don’t pretend for a second to think I’m getting good liquor here. I’m pretty sure I received Evan Williams when I ordered jack and I’m pretty sure my friends milkshake martini was made with Burnett’s. I’m sorry but its pretty hard to mistake that rubbing alcohol taste of brunettes for anything else. That’s why I had to drop my review from 5 to 3 stars. I really do love the atmosphere and the food but, I’m pretty sure their liquor is a rip off.

R.P. Billiards is another one of those college hangouts that I actually never hung out in while I was in college. R.P. Billiards has never really been on my radar, but it was suggested by my friend Charlotte one night. Though we were meeting for drinks, I was ravenous when I got there. I could tell the bartender saw that look in my eye, and she was on the ball. She was very sweet and great at her job. Charlotte and I were there to catch up, and she knew it. She checked on us every now and then, but really left us to our own. My drink was never empty, and I left full and satisfied. Charlotte ordered some cheese fries, which were waffle fries smothered in cheddar cheese, served with ranch dressing and sour cream. It’s impossible to mess up fried potatoes with cheese, bacon, and ranch dressing, and R.P. Billiards had some decent cheese fries. They are not my favorite in town, but they were yummy. As tempting as those cheese fries were, I erred on the more health conscious side with a blackened tuna sandwich. I did not know it came with fries, but I munched on a few of those as well. You know, for«research». The tuna sandwich was great. The tuna was juicy, with great seasonings. The remolaude was perfectly sweet and tangy. They aren’t shy with it as well. This sandwich is a mess to eat, but totally worth it. The fries were average fries, but the season them well, making them unique. They were crispy and crunchy. I try to shy away from college hangouts, as that time in my life has passed. R.P. Billiards is not my place of choice to go for a drink. However, I think their food is overlooked. Yes, it’s mainly greasy bar food. Yet, the quality of some items will shock you. I recommend dropping in and seeing what they are all about. They stay busy during the school year, but it is way less crowded during summer and winter breaks.

Went last night. I moved from this part of town a few months ago but when I’m in the area I like dropping in for a couple of hours or so and grab a few drinks and shoot some pool. Been coming here for 5 years or so. A lot of times they don’t have as large a crowd as the two bars on either side which is a shame because this is the nicest bar on the Highland strip. Nice and large, clean, the most pool tables of any bar on Highland. I noticed they had turned the back area into a VIP only room. You have to buy 2 drink minimum to go back there. This is funny because I have been going here so long and its not really a VIP room. If your in the back pool area you cant really see anyone in there from the street. With the area closed off the front room builds up with lots of people and this is good because if people on the street see lots of people in the place then they want to come inside. I think this is the angle they are going for and it appeared to be working last night. The bartender is always friendly. Prices are just a tad bit higher than what one would like to pay but its not bad. This is a five star because everyone like a bar you can go in and mind your business which is somewhat quiet. However if you want to chat it up with someone inside all patrons I have encountered are more than willing. This place is nice, clean, big, and they even have a screened in porch with heating and air for smokers incase its too cold or hot outside. Then they have an outside area behind this! Which is private unlike the two bars on the sides of this place. Lit up with Christmas lights its a nice area to realx in during the warmer months. They need some new pool sticks!

This is a nice, open bar with tall ceilings, bricked walls, and sandblasted wood floors. Kind of a modern, new feel. There are two pool tables in the main bar area, as well as some booths and high bar tables. An adjacent room features some dart boards and pool as well. The staff was very jovial and fun, telling us, ‘It’s happy! It’s Friday!’ as we ordered our drinks. We couldn’t help but smile. It was a mixed crowd, age-wise. So, not quite as college-y, but still youthful. The menu was a *little* pricey, nothing major, with chicken wings for $ 8.99 and hot dogs for $ 4.99. However, they’re ¼ lb. Nathan’s hot dogs smothered with toppings such as onions and cheese, and after a few drinks, they’re heaven. For a Miller Lite and a cranberry and premium vodka drink it was $ 12. I’ve managed cheaper, but it was worth the fun vibe.

R P Billiards, which is distinct and different from R P Tracks, is your traditional American Bar and Grill. The food is good, though nothing particularly spectacular. They have the usuals, such as nachos, quesadillas, and burgers. It is on Highland near the University of Memphis, which may make it convenient for college kids.
