The Memphis Business Journal, or MBJ as I like to call it, is a great weekly business paper that focuses on banks, finance, real estate, attorneys, architects, small business, education and other industries. I’ve been following the MBJ for many years throughout my professional career, and I’ve been very impressed with the quality of the writing and business spotlighting. I’ve had the opportunity to work with Chris Sheffield for quite a while, and not only is he a great writer, but he’s also a super nice guy. They publish a fantastic reference book every year called the Book of Lists that contains listings of all of the top businesses in a variety of industries with very detailed information on each. I seriously do not what I would do without my Book of Lists.

The Memphis Business Journal(MBJ) is a weekly tabloid-style newspaper focusing on business and financial issues in and around the Memphis area. The parent company owns multiple ‘Business Journals’ in a number of cities(ie, the Denver Business Journal, the Atlanta Business Journal), but the Memphis version is no worse for being, essentially, a franchise. The MBJ does an excellent job of reporting local happenings. Memphis reporters consistently write well and the paper provides all the information you could ever want should you be in marketing, sales, or PR. If you’re not in those fields, only the occasional story about your own particular field will be of interest. If you’re not in business in Memphis, it’s likely you won’t find the need to ever pick this journal up. If you are, though, it’s indispensable.
