This place is great for get togethers with friends(or with a date as it is intimate). The space is cool and inviting, the food is excellent, and the staff and owners are friendly and welcoming! I’m surprised there weren’t more people there when I went. If you want to go some place cool with some great food, check this awesome place out before everyone else discovers it and it’s hard to get in! Hopefully the great service remains the same even after they’re packed every night. A real treat this place is!

Stopped by for lunch with friends, nice atmosphere. Puts you in the mind of rustic fine dining. But the prices are way cheap! I only saw one waitress and she was doing a good job because there was about 6 tables worth of people… So we ordered the daily special, asparagus soup. So good! I don’t know what is was made of(asparagus, duh), but it was a bowl of heaven!!! Our next entrée was the Broccoli Tempura with Panella cheese and dual potatoes(purée beets and white potatoes). Uhhhhhhhhh, I couldn’t quite grasp the taste, so I yanked the broccoli from the breading and smeared it with the potatoes. My other friend ordered some avocado fries, which were ok, not my fav. I guess if you are a avocado lover, you will fall in love! I may have picked the wrong dish, so I will have to reconvene at this establishment at a later date. And 25 dollars later, I’m still hungry as hell!

Maximo’s caught my eye recently when checking out some of the newest developments on Broad – it’s a very tiny restaurant with a picture of a wine glass on the front. I knew it would be a great place for a date and I was more than pleasantly surprised when I stepped in(after making reservations which I highly recommend!) The atmosphere is very quaint with a touch of modern art and a small but well-stocked bar. There are only a handful of tables, and looking around, you realize you’ve found a hidden gem off the beaten path. Unlike some other reviews I’ve read, the food we ordered was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious – we were very pleased and couldn’t decide what to order there were so many amazing options. We had fried avocado, a large homemade ravioli with goat cheese and prosciutto, a «potato lasagna» which was very creamy and unique, and the citrus duck, which was paired with a «strawberry carpaccio»(I’ve never had strawberry with duck but it was a delightful combination!)… The staff were extremely personable and really set the mood. And the drinks were so creative and awesome I want to try them all!(Even the ones with very girly names!) I’ll definitely be back many times!

Ate there on Friday night. I was concerned they could not handle so many people who walked in at once. They delivered beyond expectations. Go there. Great!

I wanted Maximo’s to be great. I love the surrounding area, and even the restaurant’s look and the front-end staff. The waitresses were great, and the host was very polite and happy to get my girlfriend and I seated. The food however, was not nearly up to par. We both ordered the steak, which was pretty expensive, but hey, the area is higher end so no surprises there. Then the wait began. The poor waitress apologized(seemingly to all her tables) about the long wait time, which I could understand, because we went fairly shortly after it re-opened as Maximo’s. This restaurant used to be called«Three Angels on Broad», and re-opened with a new name, but the same staff. After more than half an hour, our food came out, and it was definitely not worth the wait. The steak was extremely fatty and bland. I couldn’t believe how disappointing it was. I kept eating, perhaps in the vain hope that I’d begin to enjoy it. It came with mashed potatoes, which would be more aptly called«mashed white substance», as far as taste goes. The fancy presentation of the meal sharply contrasted the taste. My girlfriend was equally dissatisfied. Another table heard us discussing this and shared their exact sentiments. I am amazed they charge so much for such low quality steak. With our checks, we got cards on which we could write comments and describe our meal, the décor, and the staff. Needless to say, we both responded that everything was great except the food(which may be important for a restaurant). We expected at least a call, so we could further explain our troubles, but none ever came.

I’m excited that Broad Avenue has another culinary treasure! The experience at Maximo’s begins with its name — it means«the greatest» in Italian. The menu is not Italian, however. I can’t quite pin down the genre of the food. New American with a touch of Latino flair? We did brunch Sunday. The host greeted is with a smile and pep in his step. The sweet young lady who served our table was sure to find answers to all of our menu questions. I saw about five items I wanted to try. Yes! My chilaquiles did NOT disappoint. I love the variety of the menu. I suppose it appeals to most taste buds because the menu is wide-ranging. I love the new décor(it’s the former 3 Angles Diner). The food has always been good and the same owners are running Maximo’s. This restaurant is perfect for the emerging Broad Avenue district. On a lazy Sunday, I implore you to visit Broad, stroll along the road and visit the clothing stores and other eclectic venues. You won’t be disappointed. Also, be sure to check your Memphis Flyer and Commercial Appeal listings. There is always an event going on at the Broad Avenue Water Tower. I can’t wait to see what happens to this budding neighborhood!!!
