I love India Fest so much! I’ve wanted to go for years. I was able to drop in for about half an hour last year and got to try some good food. But I wasn’t able to write any of it down or go look at anything. This year my husband and I had a few hours to go look around and try some good food. We also looked around at some very pretty saris and other outfits and debated buying one. I love all the bright colors. I also go to a lot of costume parties. We even found one that looked similar to a Mariachi outfit and another that looked similar to a traditional Mexican dress. As cool as that was I really liked the brightly colored ones more. Before we could buy any of them, a few of my Indian friends came. We stopped by different stalls and took turns buying things for everyone to try a bite of– tapas style. It was ridiculously fun and I wrote down everything we got from each stall. The only sad thing about the event is that the food was made for the general population and so was not spicy. Because of this, most of the food tasted just ok but not phenomenal like Indian food usually tastes. — Dhokla is apparently a side dish that you can also find at India Bazaar. — The Pani Puri wasn’t as good as the one my friend had made at home and fed me. So I will definitely have to make some of that myself using the recipe she gave me. — The Seekh Kabob had a ton of strong spices. It seems like it would be a great appetizer in which you eat one piece instead of a lot. It was a bit overpowering and I couldn’t eat very much of it even though I liked it. — Rasogolla was really good. I was told that West Bengal is famous for its milk– based desserts. They were balls in milk. I am not sure if they always come that way or not but they were great. — The Samosa would have been better if it had been warm. Hubby liked it but my Indian friends said it’s supposed to be warm and it’s better warm. Since I organized things by stall, I will list the stalls then what I got then what I thought. Bombay House: — Chicken Tikki Masala — fantastic Mast Chaat Expressed: — Mixed Chaat — good Make It India: — Veggie Manchurian– good — Dhokla(spicy) — good Spicy Chaat Corner: — Pani Puri — nah — Kachoti with Chole — ok Swad Desi FoodL — Seekh Kabob: ok — Maal Pura– nah West Bengal: — Rasogolla — good Uttar Pradesh: — Aloo Tikki– ok(would be better spicy) India Palace: — Samosa — ok
