Hoot + Louise

WOW! This place is adorable. The owner was in the day I went, and she was very sweet and helpful. The prices are reasonable and the styles are very well selected. The new stuff is cute, but none of it really caught my eye compared to her vintage selection. What I love about this shop is that the owner carefully chooses what she puts out, and she doesn’t put out too much. For some reason, I always have an impossible time finding stuff smaller than a size 6 (usually everything is like size 10 plus) and the stuff that is smaller than that is usually, like, way petite. Like for somebody who’s 5’0″ 85 lbs. But I digress! Very cute clothes, most is totally work-​appropriate yet would also be as appropriate for eating handcrafted popsicles and perusing the farmer’s market.
I have a weird obsession with super twee, kitschy little framed needlepoints and was so excited to see so many here, but they were sadly not for sale. The owner is just a collector. We’re probably soulmates.
They’re closed monday and only open 12 – 5 on sunday, so if you’re in town only for a short while go here first! It’s in a cute part of town a little outside the Beale Street area and it’s an enjoyable walk, also accessible by trolley. Perfect for a bit of shopping and a cute lunch with a friend.

This is not your average vintage store. First, they have many unique new clothing items. Their vintage stuff is amazing. Very well-​edited, and extremely well-​priced. If you love vintage, shop here!

Good selection– decently priced pieces from different eras and creatively displayed. The owner and her mother are absolutely adorable and graciously willing to help make your experience wonderful at Hoot + Louise.

I don’t even know where to begin describing this unique store… but I am going to try!
As soon as I walked into this store a few years ago when it first opened, I fell in love with it. From Anna Avant the owner to the mix of vintage and new apparel, I could spend hours in this store shopping and chatting with Anna. We have become good friends over the years and I even started working some saturdays to just be in the store. Every time I come to the store there is always something new and unique to take hold of. I have always been a vintage lover and vintage inspired lover from clothes to accessories to furniture and household goods.
If you love vintage and vintage inspired items you would LOVE this store. It has a homey feel that makes you feel warm inside. Her vintage clothes are all hand picked and have been professionally dry cleaned before placed in the store to sell. The clothes are so unique and have their own story to tell.
But don’t worry guys! It is not just girl items… there is also a man cave in the back! Lots of great items for everyone including children. She has the cutes children’s clothes. So come by and check out this amazing store and you won’t be sorry!

This store is one of my favorites in Memphis.
First of all is the vintage. There’s a great selection of women’s vintage from different eras. The first time I went into the store I purchased a gorgeous black velvet dress from the 1980s for $ 30. It was a high quality dress with boning and looked great on. I actually tried on a great green paisley, 1960s dress that I ended up not taking home with me.
Another great thing about this shop is the fact that they carry men’s vintage, especially neckties. I feel like this an area that a lot of vintage shops miss out on.
There is also a cute selection of vintage housewares, such as dishes and bar trays. I only wish that they actually sold larger furniture, since they have reasonable prices.
Fear not if you are not into vintage, the store also carries super cute independent clothing lines (such as Snoozer Loser, etc). The newer stuff is in the front of the store.
Thigh High Jeans are also sold here. They are recycled jeans that benefit charity…
Overall, if you are in Memphis and visit Downtown Hoot + Louise should definitely be one of your shopping destinations.

I did not know such places existed in Memphis! This is a great vintage store off of Main St downtown.
I popped in last week to say hello to a friend, and ended up buying 3 hats! I have never seen such cute, unique hats (or any other items, for that matter) in one store with so much character and class — they just don’t make pieces like this anymore.
I can’t wait to keep going by and seeing what new items they get in — I love not looking like everyone else!

I would hang out in this place for hours if I didn’t think I’d appear stalker-​ish! «New in the front and old in the back», this place is small but there is so much to look at!
I recently bought a skirt here (new) and I’m so happy with it. They wrap it up like they are presenting you with a gift and the sales associate is very helpful.
I love that they’re not overbearing, but suggestive to provide you with tips regarding what’s new, what’s popular, and even what they think would look great on you!
They have a Facebook page and post weekly outfits, which I love and I was told that they bring in new stuff about every 2 – 3 weeks at least. You will find me here at least once a month. Check out their branded t-​shirts with the cute owl logo. Also a great place for gifts (cute tea towels and some baby items).
Tip: parking in the back is free.

I’m not typically one for retro fashion, but must say the folks at Hoot + Louise have it going on! Though the selection of men’s clothes is limited, there is a vast collection of great finds for women. The staff is very helpful and visiting the store is part of the fun. You never know what kind of vintage (or vintage inspired) find you will see there. Well worth a stop!

Hoot Louise is fabulous vintage at its best. No– seriously. If you like true vintage finds and appreciate vintage designed new clothing this place is for you. Not everything is true, old school, found in your Grandma’s basement vintage. Owner, Anna also stocks new clothing from independent designers such as Dear Creatures and Dainty June who cater towards a more retro feel and vibe to them. Everything in here is adorable– and totally one of a kind. You aren’t going to be at a party and see someone wearing the same outfit as you if you shop at Hoot.
If your man friend has great taste, Hoot has what they refer to as a «man cave» area with picks for him as well. I spied some plaid pants, retro button down plaid and paisley shirts, wool ties and fabulous jackets while I was there. I was pretty impressed with the quality of the manly items as well– some really great finds.
They also carry the most adorable line of clothing for baby girls, Home Grown. These dresses and scarves are totally one of a kind and worth the price tag. I wish I had a little gal to purchase for, cuz I fell in love with a couple of these little numbers. You won’t just see clothing at Hoot, but also jewelry, kitchen and household items of the vintage persuasion. I saw some fab necklaces and earrings, cute pillows, vintage drink and cook ware and some kick ass boots.
I will definitely be back once I pop this baby out and get back to my pre-​pregnancy weight. That’s the only thing that sucks about vintage– it isn’t very forgiving if you aren’t a skinny-​minnie.

This is the most adorable shop I’ve seen in Memphis. It’s located right along the South Main arts district, and I stumbled upon it while checking out galleries. Most of the stock is clothing, with a good mix of vintage pieces and items from independent designers, but there are are some houseware items. The prices were fair (most items were under $ 100) and the shopkeeper felt like a long-​lost friend. If you like stores like Anthropologie, Fossil, or Modcloth, you must stop at Hoot & Louise.

Everything in Hoot + Louise, South Main’s newest boutique, is almost guaranteed to make you say «aww!» It’s like owner Anna Avant hand selected everything in the shop for maximum adorablility.
The bright, high-​ceilinged shop is stocked with handmade housewares, vintage dishes, silk screened onesies, jewelry and a well-​curated selection of clothing.
While they’ve got a fairly large selection of hand-​picked vintage clothing, it would be wrong to call Hoot + Louise a vintage store. About half of the clothes in the shop are new items from independent designers that can’t be found anywhere else in Memphis. When I was there yesterday, I fell hard for a new green tweed blazer by Dear Creatures.
The shop, which was inspired by Avant’s grandmother, has been open about two weeks. I’m excited to watch them grow — I have a feeling it’s going to become one of my favorite stores.
