I tried this place twice, and I just simply gave up on them. A lady cut my hair the first time and missed a few thick long strands. I ended up fixing myself and thought no biggie. Came back the second time. I explained what I wanted and even showed a pic. She ended up cutting all my hair off. It ended up being chin length when I clearly told her to leave the front at chest area. I almost cried. It was an awful cut! She cut about 7 – 10 inches off for a cut I didn’t even want! They’re not that cheap in price either. Sigh. My hair takes forever to grow too. Sucks!

Love them! Staff are great! I got my hair dyed here for the first time and Amy new exactly what I wanted even before I knew it myself! A little pricey, but worth it.

Originally I came into Hi Gorgeous because I wanted a change to my same old boring hair cut. And because Hi Gorgeous offered $ 20 off to new customers. Since I usually cut/dye/probably injure my own hair myself, I didn’t have much to compare it to. I liked my hair as it was, but I wanted a pro to help me switch it up. It caught me off guard when the guy with a stereotypical gay voice answered the phone, «Hi, gorgeoussss!» Classic. I got an appointment with Grace, loved her suggestions, and I even started coming regularly to get my hair trimmed here. Last time I called, she had switched salons, but the discount really makes it worthwhile to come by if you’re looking for a new stylist. Everyone working here seemed skilled and had nice hair themselves– which is important.

I really want to love Hi Gorgeous, but after two haircuts there, I’m a little«meh» about it. Don’t get me wrong — it’s a nice salon(despite the sketchy-looking exterior), and both stylists were pleasant and gave me a competent cut, but something just didn’t click for me. John did my first cut, and he was kind of reserved, so the next time I called I asked for someone with lots of personality, and was informed that«All our stylists have lots of personality.» I appreciate the sentiment, but I want someone to talk to me and engage and interact with me, and Bree seemed to be doing that with the other stylists instead. I feel so awkward sitting there while my stylist talks with someone else and I feel like I’m interrupting by chiming in. Again — she was perfectly nice and she gave me a perfectly adequate cut, but that chemistry was just missing. So after two tries, I just can’t muster up that much enthusiasm for Hi Gorgeous anymore. However, the guy working the front desk is super nice and non-snobby, and they do give a half price discount for your first cut(for real: HALFOFF), which makes it pretty low risk to try out.

I moved to Memphis 12⁄09 for my job and needed a salon. I found Hi Gorgeous online and decided to give them a try to do reviews. I’ve been going ever since. I’ve had multiple haircuts and one color job done and have never had any issues. The Staff is talented and courteous. My stylist is John and I highly recommend him. Quite frankly I think anyone employeed there is a good bet. I’m moving out of the state for my job but wanted others to know that this place is highly recommended.

I chose this salon as I wanted to follow my hair stylist from Empire to Hi Gorgeous. Turns out he moved. :(I saw a new stylist, who is the master of the blow-dryer. I hate to edit my initial happy review, because the initial impression due to the way my hair was parted and styled was great. Kudos for a very nice cut and beautiful blow out. However, after washing my hair I discovered some unnatural highlights under layers of hair. Although they were cool about me coming in to fix them,(and have a really nice staff, my stylist was very nice) which I greatly appreciate, I’m on the hunt for a more natural highlight look as I’d initially hoped. I really do rec them for the most amazing cut/blow-out ever. That part was stellar.

Love this place — David’s my stylist and has given me WONDERFUL haircuts. I’ve gotten so many compliments on my haircut and I only do trims! The cost for a cut and color is a bit pricey(I have long hair) however for me, a good cut and great stylist are hard to find. Love this place.

A boyfriend introduced me to Grace at Hi Gorgeous. The boyfriend didn’t last, but Grace did. I’m super picky about haircuts. Sure, it’ll grow out, but a bad haircut can make you feel just as miserable as a case of the flu. A good haircut is like a face lift. Until I was 17, I wouldn’t even let anyone, other than my mother, cut my hair. Picky. Grace listens to what you want and delivers. If you take a picture, she’ll recreate the style. Also, she’s honest when it comes to styles for your face and hair texture. As well as, letting you know when your doing too much styling, thus damaging your hair and offers suggestions for how to remedy the styling stress. Haircut prices are based on hair length. I think the prices are reasonable, but others say it’s pricey compared to similar salons in the area. The salon is pretty small, so appointments are a good idea, especially if you want to see Grace. I love that when you call, they answer the phone, «hi gorgeous.» I always think, wow! How’d you know it was me?! Amy is the best for waxing and other spa needs. It helps that she’s super cool, too — makes for inherently awkward waxing situations to be bearable. In my opinion, all of the staffers who I’ve met at Hi Gorgeous are nice and accomodating. I’m a bit sarcastic and they have no problem being sarcastic with me. I feel so at home. They also support bicycle lanes on Madison Avenue… another HUGE plus, in my book!

Nice atmosphere and very friendly stylist, John. My color took forever but came out well. I wasn’t sure what I wanted and John did something a bit different with pretty results. I will go back and see John again for sure.

Amy Gregory is INCREDIBLE. She is the best brow-waxer alive. She’s good, quick, and reasonably priced. Rick at the front is a sweetheart too.

Decent place, nice interior, for the most part friendly staff. My experience about a year or so ago was ‘meh’ at best. Not very attentive to what I described, was left sitting in the chair for about 15 minutes with wet hair while the girl took a personal call and smoked(she reeked of it when she came back), and it was kind of pricey for what the end product came out to be(thank science for that new customer discount.) Maybe she was having a bad day… I’d consider giving this place another chance.

I am new to town and desperately needed a haircut. I asked around and was told this place was pretty darn good. So, I walked in and got my haircut. The cut was fine, but my stylist reeked of beer. I was under the impressed he killed a can before he cut my hair. I’d like to think that was a one-time occurrence, but it makes me nervous to think that an employee can drink on the job and then hold sharp instruments so close to my head. I’ll think twice about going to Hi, Gorgeous or use the same stylist as least…

Casie gave me a good mens haircut. She was really nice and worked quickly, which I like. The only thing keeping this place from being a 5 star joint is the price. $ 25+tip for a mans haircut using clippers seems a bit high but I am new to Memphis so maybe that is average for the area. Overall, a good experience.

You first haircut is half off which is great but don’t go there if you want a trim because you are going to pay about $ 50…just a trim. The people there are really nice, except the front desk guy… he is rude. I sat there one time while he talked about people who came in and gave eye rolls, I did not feel comfortable at all.

Awesome highlighting– and if you want your brows waxed– this is the place. They’re ultra-pricey, though, but they treat you really well. Offer beverages, listen intently at the beginning of your session, etc… Men’s highlights set me back almost $ 90 with tip and the solution they used left my hair pretty soft but they faded within three weeks to something pretty unsightly.

I chose to visit Hi Gorgeous because I discovered that it’s 50% off for first time customers. That was all I needed to hear before I booked an appointment. I had no idea what kind of haircut I wanted, I just knew I was ready for a change. I was very pleased with the result. I never would have chosen that cut before, but it was very flattering and I loved it. The stylist went layer by layer to get my hair just right.

Although I don’t live in Memphis anymore, I always, always, always try to go see Larry to get a haircut at Hi Gorgeous when I am in town. I have difficult hair to cut, and I am incredibly picky. My hair will show off every mistake, and while it looks like it does one thing, in reality, it behaves totally differently. Whenever I go see a new stylist, I have to give them lots of details on my hair– it flips out no matter WHAT(even if you flat-iron it; that shocked one stylist at a Toni & Guy salon once when she didn’t listen to me when I told her that it would flip out), certain parts of it grow forward, you cannot razor my hair and have to keep texturizing to a minimum, otherwise the ends will look fuzzy and damaged. Probably 95% of the time, stylists ignore everything I tell them. Larry listened. I always get a great cut there. He also did my hair for my wedding, and I had this huge, awesome updo that looked great and stayed up all night– no easy feat for my hair. And he only charges $ 35! I know prices in Memphis are lower than in other cities, but I was paying more than double that in California for a far inferior cut. Other people are starting to catch on to his awesomeness because it is getting harder and harder for me to make an appointment when I go home. He books up fast! I am happy for him; he deserves it. Scott sometimes cuts my husband’s hair when we are in town, and he does a great job. I went to him once, and he was fine, but not as good as Larry… but Larry has had a while to get used to my hair and really knows how it behaves.
