I got the chicken tenders and they were really good! Very fresh, white meat chicken. I got Mac and cheese as a side and it was really creamy and delicious. Everything our table got was good… you can’t go wrong with Gus’s! I have heard that each Gus’s restaurant has a different recipe and that they are all awesome!

Place was packed. Service wasnt the greatest. But once the food came out it didnt matter. It was awesome. Spicy hot fresh fried chicken. The fried pickles were outstanding. Well worth the wait and very reasonable price. Cannot wait to go again.

We heard about this place from my little brother who was really wanting to go because he heard so much about it. Our family came to Memphis from around the states to visit our mom. From what I noticed there are three of these restaurants around the Memphis area. The one we went to was in Wolfchase/Germantown. I gotten the 3 piece: breast, wing and thigh with potato salad. The chicken was ok. I would rather it this than KFC… LOL. The crust was the best thing about the chicken. It was super crunchy and the flavor was so tasty. The actual meat was a little spicy and moist, which I enjoyed. The potato salad was just a total disappointment. The fried green tomatoes made up for the disappointing potato salad. We also had the chess pie, sadly it was just way to sweet. The wait staff were nice and professional. Also, I don’t know if their card machine wasn’t working or if it was only a cash only place but, when the meal was 75% done she asked me if I was paying cash. We didn’t have any cash, so I had to leave and get cash to pay. Wasn’t happy about that. This place wouldn’t be my first choice, buy also wouldn’t be my last.

That was by far the best fried chicken I’ve ever had!!! Hands down I had the 2 piece white(breast and wing) with an extra leg and I couldn’t believe how moist and tender the chicken was even though it’s deep fried. I’m used to having deep fried chicken taste dry and over cooked. The skin on the chicken had a slight kick which was good and it has lots of flavor as well. Even the beans and Coke slaw was de-licious! Everyone should try out the chicken at this place! You won’t be disappointed!!!

Would have been a five stars if the lady in the green t-shirt that took my money would have taken 2 seconds to say thank you. I thoght how she handled the transaction was so rude. But the two young ladies waiting the counter were friendly, and asked for return business. One even ran out to a customers car to bring something left off his order. They need to keep that lady in the back! !. If I come back and she has to wait on me I’m leaving! I don’t care how good the food is pleasant customer service is a must!

Maurissa our server was fabulous. The fried chicken is good but not great. I have had better fried chicken in other places like Bay Bay’s chicken in west palm beach.

This is my second time here. The wait staff never knows if you’ve been waited on, so they ask you. The food is made fresh so it takes a while once you’ve placed your order. The food is great though, I just wish the service was better. I would recommend looking at the menu before wait staff gets to you and being ready to order when you order your drinks to speed up the process. TL;DR: service could be better but the food makes up for it. Look at the menu as soon as you sit down and order food when you order drinks.

Been here for 8 yrs now and never gad Gus’s fried chicken. I can say it was delicious and the sides were very good. I dont know why I never came here sooner, I guess I was too busy eating BBQ. I will be back, I even went to the one in Southhaven, very good!

Place is set up well, nice and very informative staff. The prices are great and is cooked fast. Chicken is absolutely delicious. This is one place that lives up the talk in Memphis. If you like some spice to your chicken, you’ll love Gus’s.

I love Gus’s fried chicken in general and try to get some whenever the opportunity presents itself. The chicken is usually extra crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside… well seasoned… perfection. The sides that come with the chicken is really nothing to write home about. But, they’re included… so whatever, I’ll eat them. The reason I wanted to write a review for this particular Gus’s is because of the staff… our waitress in particular. I wanted to ask her name, but she was crazy busy. I think I overheard someone call her Ashley… not 100% on that… cute, blond, Southern. Anyways, extra props to her for providing excellent service on 10÷01÷15 around 6pm. After we came in and sat ourselves, a tour bus group of at least 20 came in right behind us. Without skipping a beat, she warmly welcomed everyone and served us all with smiles and efficiency. Food came out piping hot. Our drinks were continually refilled. Excellent chicken and excellent service. Would definitely return.

I thought fried chicken was just friend chicken. But WOW. Gus makes you question everything you previously knew about fried chicken. It’s tender and juicy and full of flavor. I can’t say enough good things about the chicken. The fried skin has a bit of a spicy kick to it but it was a nice surprise. The two sides I got were mac & cheese and baked beans. They were both just average. A plate usually comes with baked beans and Cole slaw, but you can sub both sides for .50 cents each. The plates will also come with 2 slices of white bread. Not a huge restaurant but they moved quick and the people are like most southern restaurants — charming.

The chicken and fries are so yummy I came here twice during my five night stay in Memphis. It isn’t the best fried chicken I have ever had, but it comes close! I suggest making a visit if you don’t mind waiting 15 – 20 min for a take-out order. I’m not sure how long it takes if you eat-in, as the place was packed both times I was there and I didn’t feel like waiting for a table. You can call ahead if you don’t want to wait. The two girls that work there are very sweet. They are under a lot of pressure to wait on tables, take phone orders, and check-out all customers. I think they do the best they can with very limited resources. Don’t come in here expecting to get five-star service and steam pressed white linen tablecloths… it’s a fried-chicken place!

With all the hype I’ve seen on the Food Network about Gus’s Fried Chicken, I just HAD to try it, especially since I never go to Memphis. So a few weeks ago I went to Memphis and stopped by on a Saturday. It was awkward coming in initially since I didn’t know how they worked. Everyone sitting at the tables were quiet and staring at us and the girl at the register in the back was also staring at us. My husband and I walked to the back, thinking we needed to order there. When we came up, the girl behind the register still didn’t say anything to us and then our eyes wandered to the sign next to her that said to seat yourself. Okay, why is that sign not at the front door where people walk in? Anyways, I ordered a 3-piece dark with fried okra and potato salad. The potato salad was super bland, the fried okra was nothing extraordinary, and the fried chicken was crunchy, spicy, but a tad bit over salted. The chicken is good, but I’ve had better fried chicken in Texas. The best thing about this place was the price. You can get slightly above-the-average fried chicken for super cheap.

Gus chicken is so good but too bad that the service is horrible that it ruins a good meal. I would give the food 4 stars since the sides aren’t that good but damn — the service is so bad that I need to warn ppl. Both ladies from the front to the server(08) are horrible. Turned me off so bad that i won’t be coming to this location anymore. Please change ppl there!!! Get better workers.

Chicken was okay, did not live up to the hype. Service was very friendly but extremely slowwwwwww. Sat in restaurant for roughly 1:20 to complete order, eat and get bill. That’s way to long to be in a chicken place. 15 minutes to eat the rest was waiting!!!

The best by far! Food was what we expected. Our waitress emily was kind enough to give us a list of restaurants to also try since we’re new to the area.

With so many great reviews, you just can’t go wrong when choosing Gus’s for lunch or dinner. Being from the west coast I thought that I knew fried chicken… we grew up with Shakey’s, KFC… oh what a surprise to discover a couple years ago just how different and wonderful southern fried chicken is. Welcome to Gus’s…this is the real deal… I ordered the three piece dark with two sides… slaw and greens. OMG…the chicken was battered and pan fried… beautiful, tasty… moist…remarkable. The slaw was perfect… the collar greens were good, but a little shy on seasonings. I know my portion sizes were appropriate, however, I sure wish that I had another piece of chicken.

What more can I say about Gus’s that hasn’t already been said… It’s just the best fried chicken. Ever. Like I stay awake at night wondering how something can be so good. It robs me of my sleep. Whenever I’m in Memphis, I schedule my itinerary around Gus’s because it’s like a 3 hour endeavor. Spend an hour at Gus’s, then the other 2 napping it off. I will say one minor negative, the last time I was there, their greens were not good at all. It was left mainly untouched. I also highly recommend trying their fried catfish platter! They gave us 4 huge catfish fillets fresh and crispy out of the fryer along with 2 sides — great deal.

Pretty good fried chicken, but it would take a REALLY outstanding chicken to register much more than 3 for me. It was good but didn’t knock my socks off as many had talked it up to be. Maybe they needed to set lower expectations for me. Mac and cheese was tasty!
