I went today and the oxtails were flavorless and dry. I understand Memphis doesn’t have a lot of Jamaican offerings but these were subpar to say the least. I had to ask for more gravy(didn’t enhance the flavor at all) and for 16 dollars, two pieces were not enough. The cabbage was ok… a little too bitter for me. However the rum punch was amazing! The best I’ve tasted thus far. I would go back just for the punch alone. I also liked the nice intimate setting.

Well, I am stuffed! Soooooooo great! Began with a mango rum punch. Sweet but oh so great! For appetizers we attempted the jama jama, salt and pepper shrimp and jerk chicken wing basket. Loved them all! The jama jama is like an Italian spinach. The mango BBQ sauce was excellent with the wings and the boom boom sauce for the shrimp made your mouth go boom boom. Lol! For our entrees we’d jerk chicken pasta and Jamaican jerk shrimp. Yummy! I am not into cucumbers so swapped out the cucumber salad for the Kingston cabbage!!! Oh so happy I did! If you enjoy red beans and rice you are going to adore it!

In town & decided we wanted jerk, so my friend had this place on her 2 do list & we popped in. The place looks deserted when driving by, but we parked in the lot and walked in. It was very dark when entering & we didn’t know if they were open or not, but we entered & there was nothing in the place but SMILINGWARMWELCOMINGFACES!!! We were seated instantly, met our server & she was just as nice and friendly. She gave us options of the food & drinks. we placed our order. Food came out in abt 15 mins. We ordered fried green tomatoes(DELICIOUS), jerk wing basket, salt & pepper shrimp basket, curry goat, & the cabbage. For drinks we had the Rum punch(SUPERSTRONG). EVERYTHINGWASGOOD&FRESH!!! Wings aren’t hot like most jerk places which I didn’t like but they were still good. Shrimp was good, but I wanted jerk shrimp. Overall it’s a decent place I appreciated the good service from everyone.

Excellent food, and E & O are extremely cordial and gracious! Went using a big group and they were quite accommodating. Adore the BoomBoom sauce as well as the Lawn Salad. Will definitely be adding this to my list of «go-to» places. It’s a great feeling and superb music that is not overly loud. In addition, it has some great vegetarian choices.

Had the jerk chicken wings with the mango BBQ sauce and want them again. For the main dish had the blackened Tilapia roll and it was fantastic, the boom boom sauce added just the right amount of kick to the flavor! Only disappointment was that they were having a ‘dispute’ about their liquor license so no adult beverages were being served. But otherwise and excellent experience.

The king stew fish was fantastic. The jerk chicken wings and salt and pepper shrimp appetizer is an awesome thing to share with a friend. I also highly recommend the Jamaican lemonade!

This little hidden jewel is absolutely amazing and a MUST visit place. They have wonderful Jamaican jerk seasoning, its a bit spicy BUT the mango sauce cools it down. Fish tacos are the best I’ve had yet, also you must try the Jamaican jerk shrimp, Kingston stew fish is awesome as well. Definitely will be back and bring ur friends there too

Absolutely amazing! Excellent food, and incredible service. They took the time to explain some of the items we were unsure about and allowed us to try the sorell and the Jamaican lemonade The tenderloin was super tender and the curry chicken was super flavorful Everything we tried was just what we wanted And since we went there in a whim we had no idea what to expect, we are so glad we gave it a shot

Everything I’ve had here has been delicious! My new favorite is the rasta pasta. It’s a vegetarian pasta dish but you can add shrimp &/or chicken to it! It has black beans, broccoli, peppers and a cream sauce in it. So yummy! They are a local black owned spot and I’m sure these recipes are pretty authentic or super close! Their fried items are lightly fried which is a super plus for me. They have a bar as well. I love this place. Great for dates, lunch dinner and even to go!

Delicious! Our local friends brought us here to experience something new and local! The décor and service was a little iffy but the food was so delicious! I had the catfish roll which was on ciabatta bread with pineapple slaw on top and sweet pickles to put on with house made chips. Everything was delicious and fresh. My husband had the pork tenderloin, had a spice to it but also sweet. Two entrees and two drinks came to around $ 40 which isn’t too bad for high class food! Excited to bring visiting family and friends to try!

Rasta Pasta with jerk chicken is a must! ! This pasta is so delicious with a little kick. It’s so flavorful and just the right amount of veggies. This is my new favorite. Mesha is the best waitress ever make sure you ask for her.

This place was like an answer to my hunger lol I was only a day ago talking about how I wished Memphis had a Jamaican food place while driving looking for lunch it caught my eye and I insisted on eating there for lunch. I had the salmon and grits. This was a very delicious dish coupled with the lemonade. It was spiced perfectly and I don’t often eat spicy things, the Rasta Pasta is also amazing says my fiancée. Overall I will be going back to soak up the good vibes and good food.

My 8 year old licked his grits bowl clean. Does that tell you how good the food is? Lol it should! Hubs got salmon cakes and grits and cleaned his plate, the whole time saying OMG this is good! I got the lunch taco special — 3 tacos, 2 were fish(outstanding) and 1 black bean(ok). We had a fast and attentive server who was a delight to deal with — ambiance of the place was warm and inviting. HIGHLYRECOMMENDED!

I’ve been here 4 or 5 times and every time is pleasant. Good food. Good drinks. Great service(hour out to Shae-my server/bartender the today). Food comes out quickly. Seriously, best kept secret in the medical district.

Fantastic! Ordered the Catfish and Grits. I ordered it fried and my wife ordered it blackened both ways were great! The fish was fresh and seasoning was perfect. Now to the grits, let me say some of the most flavorful, just right texture grits i ever had. The location is a little tucked away but it is worth the find! The service was excellent as our waitress expressed her feelings on what to try with passion. We will be back!

While it’s located on Madison, I love that it’s off the beaten path from other restaurants downtown. The ambiance is very casual. it is a little dark, but I like the intimacy it creates. I always enjoy the food here. They are very consistent with the quality and taste. You can’t go wrong with the jerk chicken wrap, ox tails, salt & pepper shrimp or jerk wings. The sides offered are just as versatile; rice & peas, Kingston cabbage, callaloo, jama jama, etc. The Jamaican lemonade is a must! I found out the hard way that they are not open on Mondays. Other than that, they have a traditional schedule. I do wish they would open for brunch.

Cute place. There are several veg options. I had the lunch special black bean wrap with black bean soup. It also came with chips. My friend ordered the Kingston cabbage, and we ended up sharing it bc I am a greedy food hog. It was all very good. The wrap was small, but it was all reasonably priced. Will likely return.

I really like this place! We went on a Friday night. Although there were few people when we first arrived, it quickly became busy. The atmosphere is nothing fancy, more like a soul food restaurant. We went on a very warm day and the temperature was a bit warm in the restaurant. I imagine once it gets crowded, it really gets hot. We had the jerked shrimp and the blackened salmon. The blackened salmon was the absolute best I have ever put in my mouth. The shrimp was as good, but I had it after I had tasted the salmon and I was already ruined. Both were winners. The rice and the potatoes were both good, but hard to live up to the meat and sauces. The fried green tomatoes were some of the best I have had, especially with the sauce served with them. I can’t wait to go back to this restaurant. If it lives up the our first visit, this will be on my favorite haunts list.

Fantastic food! We had blackened salmon(the special) and jerk shrimp. Both meats were wonderful. The greens were very flavorful. The cuke and tomato salad was a bit bland for my taste and had typically pale, hard tomato chunks. But the other items made up for it – the rice & peas, the mashed potatoes, the chutney. For appetizer we had fried green tomatoes. They were outstanding, and the sauce had a nice kick. These are a must try! The restaurant was a bit warm(temperature), but I prefer that to an overly cold restaurant.

I stopped by this place for a meal and immediately sensed a vibe of dirtiness. The place is sticky with grease in the atmosphere and the bathrooms are scary. Is this where you want to eat? I certainly did not so I left the facility and would recommend that the place get cleaned up!

First, Three words: Jamaican Rum Punch. Take a cab here so you can enjoy several of these. I don’t know what’s in them but they are tasty and STRONG! The fried green tomatoes were great, and the boom boom sauce is delicious! We had the jerk tilapia pasta and Ziggy pasta, and both were awesome. I can’t wait to go back to try more of that menu!

I love trying out various ethnic foods, and I’ve always been a fan of cajun food so I was excited to try jamaican food. The place has a very homey feel and the food is good without being fancy or pretentious. Décor is meh, but unless I’m going to a really fancy place, I care more about the food than the décor.

On our last day in Memphis, when the city opened back up again after a couple of inches of snow(don’t get me started), the boyfriend and I hit Sun Studios and then asked Unilocal where to have lunch. Jamaican and Soul food seemed exactly what the doctor ordered and the reviews were positive(thanks, fellow Unilocalers!) so we had a late lunch here. Our server, Scott, was an absolute delight – exactly the kind of server you hope to have at your last stop of a vacation. He was funny and friendly, and I appreciated his willingness to give us half sweet and half unsweet tea(Southern sweet tea is a bit too sweet for me). Also, he was helpful about the menu items and honest that he hadn’t had a chance to try everything(he’s new) but his recommendations were wonderful. We had fried green tomatoes as an appetizer and the boyfriend had jerk wings and I had fish tacos. The food was great– perfectly seasoned and cooked.(I hate it when you can taste the cinnamon in jerk wings. I don’t mind knowing it’s there, but I don’t want to taste it). And the owner came out to ask how we were enjoying our meals. We were stuffed and needed to get on the road to head back up to Chicago(it’s around 4 p.m. at this point) but we had to order dessert. We’d been in the South for a week and hadn’t had bread pudding yet, for crying out loud! There’s is great – a dignified slice with a simple, delicious drizzle of sauce, not some sort of messy, big bowl to-do. It was a perfect way to top off a lovely meal. This is definitely a place to visit in Memphis! And those of you living there who haven’t been yet – get over there!

This place lands on my top 10 list for Memphis restaurants. It is also the first local restaurant I tried when I moved to Memphis. It satisfies me when I need a Jamaican fix-still miss the Jamaican hole in the wall restaurants that I’m used to. At the top of my list are the salt & pepper shrimp, kingston cabbage, tosh trio, and Kingston stew fish. In the middle for me are the jerk wings, fish cakes, and grilled jerk chicken wrap My bottom: fried green tomatoes(they’re just better at a southern or soul food establishment in my opinion) and Jamaican lemonade

This place!!! I’m not sure how long they’ve been open, but I know it’s been a while. I’m just now getting around to trying it and I’m devastated that I’ve been missing out on this amazing food all this time. I LOVE the atmosphere. Maybe it was the cold January rain, but when I stepped into this place I immediately felt like I was on a tropical«staycation». I know, I know, it’s a far cry from Jamaica, but we are in Memphis so I’ll take what I can get. My husband and I shared the salt and pepper shrimp appetizer and the pork wrap. It was everything I hoped it would be and more. DELICIOUS! The service was excellent even though it was a lunch rush on a holiday weekend. We’re definitely planning another visit so we can try some of their signature cocktails and some more of the fun dishes on the menu.

This place is awesome! I just moved from Miami, and I wanted to find something that reminds me a little bit of home, this is definitely the place to come if you want some legitimate Caribbean style cooking. Not tin drums or music… But good stuff! The Jerk Wings are amazing. They have some good«cod fritters» they are the closest things to conch fritters, and they were really good. For drinks we had the Ting Tini… Good… The dark and stormy… That was better… The Jamaican Run Punch though… Straight from the Caribbean and 2 – 3 will have you sloppy drunk speaking like a Jafaking in no time. I actually was lucky… They had Ox Tail… If you haven’t had ox tail… You haven’t tasted the Caribbean… Also stabbed into the jerk chicken pasta… Also good. If you want something OTHERTHAN the non stop BBQ that Memphis offers… This is a real treat… The ONLY downfall… Is that they don’t seem to have a spicy jerk sauce to throw on things for some«island spice»… But it’s still legit One love!
