This was the first race I have actually attempted to run and I have to say I had a blast. It was great seeing all the people in the neighborhood out on the streets cheering you on. Everyone from registration to just the runners themselves were super nice and helpful. And when I was done dragging myself across the finish line I had a ton of options for food, drinks and places to just sit back and relax. I will defiantly be registering for this race next year it is a great way to kick off the Cooper Young Festival!

There is a mix of serious runners, jalkers, good intentions and straight strollers out to have a good time at this race. If you are one of those we watch from the bar running up and down the street to warm up beforehand, stop reading. I have nothing of importance to say to you. For the rest of you, this is an awesome race. The vibe is amazing. Spectators are cheering for you like you’re a contender to win the Boston marathon. There are funny support signs, kids offering high fives and cheering spectators all the way. Beads and glow necklaces, Jell-O shots and Fireball, cheese and grapes, bands playing on neighbor’s lawns. I think I even saw a Big Top themed party along the way. Walk it, jalk it or run it, but take it all in and enjoy it! Have fun for a great cause!

This is a really fun race in a great neighborhood. Proceeds benefit the Cooper Young Community Association. Among the 2500 runners, there are plenty of sub-7 minute miles, and also tons of walkers/slow joggers. The course starts south on Cooper toward Young, and then turns through the neighborhood streets, where residents sit on their lawns and offer verbal and liquid encouragement. The race starts promptly, is stroller friendly, and has a pretty nice after-party, to boot. Non-runners can get into the after-party for a $ 5 donation to the CYCA. Best of all, nobody looks at you funny when you wander into the local businesses afterward drenched in sweat! A great way to start off festival weekend!
