I visit Memphis every few years and am always on the hunt for locally made things to bring back to my friends. At this point, they’re all a little weary from BBQ sauce so I have to get creative. After consulting the fabulous Unilocalers of Memphis, I added A Memphis Thing to my list of must-visit places that carry locally made goods. I was poking around the Main Street area, dazzled by all the revitalization that’s happened in the last decade or so, on my way to A Memphis Thing. I passed by the Orpheum and the Civil Rights Museum, passed by tourists and locals bustling in and out of restaurants and stores on my way, when I finally came upon this sweet little shop. Bright and open, with a cool vibe, A Memphis Thing is colorful and welcoming. They carry vibrant wall art, fantastic ceramics, beautiful wooden combs and humidors, and all manner of jewelry. Additionally, they have the most adorable bow ties, an item I can’t say I’ve seen anywhere else. And there are a number of price points represented so there is something for everyone. I wound up buying a glass ring from Elucido Glass for a friend of mine who owns a gallery in Maine that I think will absolutely delight her. I had ducked in close to closing but Tracey was warm and welcoming and happy to tell me about the gallery and its brief history. If you’re looking for something unique and totally Memphis, whether you’re from the area or want a special souvenir of your visit, A Memphis Thing is totally worth the stop.
