This was the best ice cream place ever but you bastards didn’t buy enough ice cream and now it’s gone forever. Who killed Heavenly Licks? After all, it was you and me. I weep for America.

One of my favorite ice cream spots in the area. Great selection — lots of topping options, and good service. Just remember before you go, it is Cash only

Let me set the scene: it’s hot. It’s humid. I have completely given up trying to make my curls cooperate. It’s a braid-it-all-up kind of day. My boyfriend and I have spent all afternoon cruising with the windows down — ostensibly to explore other neighborhoods but really because it’s cheap way to both cool down and get out of the house. «Hey babe, did you say you wanted some Italian ice?» «…Always.» That’s how we ended up at Heavenly Licks. I liked the place immediately. There was an unsmiling grandmother sitting at a table with a little girl eating ice cream, and a trio of bored teenagers behind the counter. Felt like summer in a John Hughes movie. We ended up getting the lemon sorbet, watermelon sherbet, and orange sherbet. I thought the size was super generous: we got two smalls that would have been mediums at a place like JP Licks. And for cheap too! Anyways, everything was delicious. The orange sherbet was just like the stuff you get in the cardboard push-pops: creamy and citrusy. The combo of watermelon and lemon was like magic. Sooo refreshing. It was the perfect pit stop on hot day. Our frozen treats were tasty and cheap, and Heavenly Licks has that small-town vibe that I love. I’ll totally come back.

You definitely do not get what you pay for! The ice cream is not bad but the large portion was more like a kiddie portion. I had more fudge in my cup than ice cream. Disappointing. I don’t remember them being so stingy.

Just moved to Melrose 3 weeks ago and have already been to HL many times. This place is great, a lot of great flavors and i like how they have a sign that describes the more obscure flavors to you. One word: PHANTOMBERRY(is that 2 words?). Black raspberry ice cream with brownie chunks and choc covered oreo cookie chunks. It is delicious. Good size portions, prices weren’t ridiculous, highly recommend Heavenly Licks. The reason I have given HL4 stars not 5 is because they only take cash and twice when I went there they were out of Phantomberry and also out of soft serve ice cream, which would’ve been my second choice.

I’m definitely a fan of ice cream, and Heavenly Licks satisfies this craving more than most places I have tried. It has a down home feeling of a local ice cream store, and the servers enhance that feeling. Scoops are very large, which I appreciate. The ice cream is not overly heavy, and there is a very nice selection of toppings. When you order toppings with your ice cream, they are always careful to give you an ample amount. And I definitely believe the pricing is reasonable. The flavors tend to be fairly standard, with a few creative ones thrown in. My favorite that I have found there so far is the Moose Tracks ice cream. The hours are great, being open fairly late in the summer. The one downside is that they close in the fall and are not open again until the Summer time. In their defense, that seems to be the case for most ice cream stores in this area, although it is a bit sad. The one area of improvement would be cleanliness. The floors are all carpeted, which can be pretty gross during high traffic times and with a lot of spillage. The tables could be clean a little more often as well. However, overall, a pretty good job is done.
