Tried Colleen’s after moving to Medford over a year ago and wasn’t that impressed. Then again we didn’t get ice cream items but food. The food was something that could have been made at home and didn’t stands out to me. Atmosphere and physical appearance could use a face lift. Definitely a popular hangout for local high school students. Maybe we’ll return in the warmer months for ice cream.

Had lunch at Colleen’s today and it was great. Tuna melt, salad and squash/Apple soup. Service was prompt and friendly and there are lots of yummy treats and ice cream for dessert. This is a great place for lunch or dinner.

Probably never going back there. They should stick to ice cream only. Went in for a cup of clam chowder Always thought that clam chowder was thick and actually had clams in it. It was thin and watery and no clams Waste of money and time. And also when u go in there there is no direction. U stand there waiting to order and other people come in and just cut in front of u. Not a very nice place!!! Kind of expensive to. Not worth it

I had a terrible experience at Colleen’s. After Church service, I came into Colleen’s just when it opened. It was raining and I had my little dog with me. Since I didn’t wish to sit on the outside wet bench to pick him up, I walked him inside just near the door and pulled out the nearest chair close to the door so I could pick him up. I cannot pick him up by bending over from the waist due to a very serious back issue. Colleen started to yell at me to pick him up. I explained my situation, but she continued to verbally abuse me, and yelled«why aren’t you picking him up». I said that I was about to when I had to stop to respond to your attack. In the past I always came inside with him under my arms as I would pick him up outside when it’s sunny and dry. She was very judgmental and critical. I proceeded to the bathroom and was planning to take out the butternut squash and apple soup, but after her harsh attitude, I decided to leave. I approached her and expressed that I did not appreciate her attitude towards me. She continued to attack me by saying that I come in to use the bathroom, and never order anything. Yes, occasionally, when I’m taking long walks I may stop in to use the rest room and there are NO signs saying restroom is for patrons only. I have in fact met friends there for soup and a drink, but it’s usually later in the evening, after 7 p.m. Since I don’t like ice cream or the food there that much, unless it’s a veggie wrap or soup, it’s not my pick. One of the staff members who was there watching had a rude attitude by laughing through this ordeal. A very turn off for me. I have always been respectful and polite and don’t appreciate this horrible attitude. Colleen has to have an attitude adjustment and practice her new respectful attitude with her staff.

First went here in the summer of 2013 and could not stop going back! Their sundaes are amazing. Recently had a blondie brownie sundae with vanilla and cookie dough ice-cream with hot fudge and nuts — DIVINE. Additionally, the staff is great — I left my wallet there on a Sunday and they were so honest and responsive and I had my walle back on Monday! Colleens — you rock.

Staff is always friendly and the line moves along quickly. My favorite things on the menu would be the chocolate chip cookie dough milk shake and the raspberry lime Rickey! Must tries!

Colleen’s has the BEST Peanut Butter Parfait you will EVER have! Their ice cream in general is delicious! Great place too for a quick lunch! My favorite is the Panini — Fresh mozzarella, tomatoes and pesto on herb Ciabatta bread with or without chicken! The Chicken Caesar salad wrap is also delicious! Would highly recommend! (Peanut butter parfait topped with whip cream and reese cups)

Interesting place located conveniently in Medford Square with, usually, plenty of street parking available. Nice old timey diner décor. I was not overly enthused by the cleanliness or the food unfortunately. I ordered a grilled cheese, since that was clearly what the menu wanted me to order ;) and soup. The grilled cheese was not bad. The soup was so-so at best. The service, also so-so. I heard from other customers that the ice cream here is very good. I would come back again for the convenient location but would not go out of my way, for sure.

We had a birthday party here recently. It was a great place to have it. They have a little room off the main area that kept the kids from running all over the place. The staff were very nice with the kids. While I was planning this party with the staff, I was only asked how many kids, and told that the minimum was 10, maximum was 22, and the parents either stand around, or if there is room, they sit out near the room. Their website says: «A minimum of 10 guests, any less and you will still be billed for 10 guests, maximum of 22 seated guests, parents may stand around in the room. «With the staff, as well as with the website, we understood that we were paying per child guest. In reality, you’re actually paying per sundae, maxed out at 22 sundaes. Makes the bill much more exorbitant than what we were led to believe from the staff and website.

The fact that this place hasn’t been shut down by the health department is a miracle. Put on gloves or at least wash your hands before you touch my food, and as I did not order a side of dust with my panini, do me a favor & clean the 10 years worth of dust off the ceiling. That craps gonna fall in my lunch any second now.

Love their ice cream which is made locally for them. Food is good diner fare. Kitschy 50s Soda Shoppe. An enjoyable stop especially for children.

How do you wash a salty/sandy beach afternoon away? With frappes, root beer floats and waffle cones to go. Yummy ice cream. If J.P. LIcks is a 10 and Hershey’s store bought is a 1 and would give these guys a solid 7.

If I could give a review for just ice cream, I would give 5 stars. Their milkshakes are delicious. The staff was super helpful in finding the right concoctions for me. The cherry lime Ricky is also a drink not to be missed. However, the food is just bad. No flavor, the staff forgot to make a chicken salad sandwich for 20 mins. I have no desire to ever try it again for food.

I’m not sure why this place has such low ratings — I’ve been going here for almost my entire life and I’ve NEVER had any issues. My family used to go here when it was Brigham’s as well, which just goes to show how much of a staple Colleens is to Medford. Colleen’s is the local hangout place for many a middle and high-schooler, so if you want to go in there on a Friday or Saturday evening, beware. On Sundays the church-going crowd meanders on in there and is considerably less loud than the high schoolers. Their food selection is basic but not untasty, and the ice cream selection is amaaaaazing! They have many ice cream and low-fat options available with a variety of toppings. Yes, the ice cream is scooped by teens, but throughout the years I have seen many of those teens working there time and time again, some for over 5 years. It’s a laid back place to eat and work! I have never had an issue with my orders, teens working or no teens. They also have a bathroom and are very laid back about who uses it, and I can’t say how many times this has saved me in a pinch! Oh — they also make a MEAN raspberry lime rickey and amazing frappes!

Overpriced, mediocre food, served by incompetent and untrained staff. The only thing worth ordering here is the ice cream. This place draws you in by having the appearance of an old school diner. You probably have driven or walked past it, wondering what it’s like. You may have even come to Unilocal to read some reviews before coming inside. After seeing a somewhat low star rating, you might be like me, and say«Well, maybe Unilocal is wrong. They occasionally have a low score for good restaurants. Plus, it looks like a neat place.» Stop here. It’s not too late, because it’s all smoke and mirrors, so let me break it down for you as to why Colleen’s is terrible. The food is quite simply, not very good. If you are going to pay for food, or in the case of Colleen’s, overpriced food, than it should be tasty, right? I mean at the very least, I shouldn’t be able to find better food in a gas station, or make something better myself. Well here you get both. The staff, although nice, are a bunch of kids that don’t know what they are doing and clearly never have had a job before. Food prep is done without gloves, which to some is okay, to others is disgusting. Their hands are not washed, at least not since the last time they scratched their faces or were wiping down the counter. Also, they forgot my food. I ordered in an empty restaurant. People kept coming in and out getting ice cream after my order. Cashier was very attentive to them, but forgot about my food. After 20 minutes of not getting my sandwich, the cashier looks over at me, realizes she forgot to put in my order, and walks over to tell a coworker to make my food. It’s done in a few minutes. Anyway, skip getting anything but their ice cream. Even this place couldn’t fuck that up.

Delivery-quality deli food in a throwback soda shoppe storefront that acts a magnet to the nearby St Joseph’s Parochial school children and neighborhood teens. Translation: cafeteria sandwiches for short money, and if you’re over the age of 17 and not accompanied by your own kids, grab your lunch to go. The menu is the basic protein, cheese, sauce on semi-stale bread you’d find at a place that tucks menus in your door. By no means life-changing, but my BBQ Chicken & Swiss on a pretzel roll came hot with a bag of Wachusett chips and a fountain drink for less than $ 8. Sustenance familiar to any hospital or school employee in need of a quick and cheap fix, and a slight bump for friendly service and the inventive ice cream options that might have me coming back sooner than expected. A cannoli sundae? If you insist. I cannot stress enough that the dining room will be swimming with young folks(shmyeah, shmyeah) which makes even the short wait for your order feel… creepy? Yes, creepy; that’s the word. Creepy.

Solid sandwich place in Medford Square, and they also serve breakfast. I don’t know Medford Square well, but I don’t think there are all that many casual dining options. The good thing about this place is the menu is pretty extensive, there are wraps, paninis, sandwiches and soups, and there are vegetarian options and a kids menu. The food is not outstanding but it is solid. For example the corn chowder was not properly thickened so it was a little curdled, but still tasted good, the caprese panini had pesto, which I liked. They seem to shine in the dessert sphere. The brownies and whoopie pies are very good and they have a «cannoli sundae» which is an awesome concept, like a hot fudge sundae with chips of cannoli shells in it.(I wondered if the shells came from Modern pastry down the street?) They seem to make their own ice cream and you can buy it by the half gallon. It’s an inexpensive option that is great if you have kids, thanks to the variety and the price. And the service was very friendly.

The food isn’t that bad… The grilled cheeses are good and so are the soups. The ice creams come in big portions. This place could use a touch-up though. It is kind of dirty and the girl at the counter was being rude to the other employees.

You can get the same food at home out of your microwave, unless you want ice cream, then you can get it out of your freezer. Such a cute space with so much potential and Medford square really needs something like this. I hope they realize they can be so much better.

Considerably better this go around. Was able to walk in and order easily. Only iffy thing was the white trash couple and big mouth mom ahead of me in line commandeering the whole counter making it impossible for anyone else to order but I digress… I ordered a half and half frappé. Coffee and Coconut. WOW! It reminded me of the ice coffees I’ve order at DD but better. Frozen refreshment on a hot summer afternoon. A well earned treat after an arduous afternoon trying to fight the man and getting no where but yet again I digress…
