Lark bake shop and cafe

You guys. This place is off the chain good, but has the strangest business model that I can’t even begin to comprehend. While we live on the other side of town, my husband works nearby and has therefore dropped by several times to bring home treats. The cake flavors are crazy good as well as the cupcakes. My favorite cake is the billionaire or oreo and cupcake is the salted caramel. Everything is super moist and the pricing is very reasonable.
But here’s the kicker… the owner will only sell you certain items at certain times. DO WHAT, SEINFELD?!? Yes, you see we absolutely LOVE the cakes, however she now refuses to sell pieces of cake unless you come on a Friday between 6 – 9. So even though he’s been multiple times on a Friday, and usually only an hour or two before 6, she won’t sell him any pieces of cake unless he wants to stick around work for an extra hour on a Friday. Does this make any sense… why turn down business over an hour? So friends, if you happen to be in Mechanicsville on a Friday night between 6 – 9, go get yourself a piece of this 5 star cake, because it’s worth it. Otherwise, NO CAKE FOR YOU!!!

My husband and I are huge Lark fans! Every treat is delicious. We are partial to the cupcakes, especially the Samoa cupcake — Chocolate with caramel filling, icing topped with chocolate, caramel drizzle and toasted coconut. You can see and taste the attention to detail in every dessert. This weekend, we ordered our daughter’s birthday cake from Lark, it was adorable and tasty. Guests are still commenting about how good her Chocolate covered Strawberry cake tasted!
I can’t wait to try the new menu at the new location! I am so excited Mechanicsville has Richmond caliber desserts without the drive!

The cupcakes are by far the best you will find in the Mechanicsville area. The flavors are pretty standard.
The inside of the building is nice and open with a lot of natural light. The table tops are a chalkboard so you can write on them which is neat.

Delicious birthday treat. Stopped in for cupcakes. My daughter picked a chocolate cupcake with vanilla icing. I had the vanilla cupcake with chocolate icing and my other daughter had a cake pop minus the stick. All went away happy. 4 stars because of the limited options.

We love Lark nights every Friday night! We have always wished that there was a place to stop in after dinner and just get a great dessert. Lark is it! Huge slices of cake! Enough to share or take home for later. We have tried several flavors and never disappointed. Oh did I mention they have cinnamon rolls on Saturday too?! We may be addicted.

I love Lark! It’s a great place to go and grab a cup of coffee and get a donut or baked good. I love their cupcakes! I ordered a cake for my sister’s baby shower. The cake was exactly as I requested, absolutely adorable, and delicious! Everyone that works there is so nice!

Worst cupcakes EVER! I needed to wash the grease off my hands after eating! Cupcake was COLD (why!!!). Half the cupcake was ripped off when taking the paper off! Icing had more sugar than flavor!

Mini m&m’s. Oatmeal peanutbutter chocolate chip cookie is so wonderful. I am so happy from getting the cookie. Just an unreal adventure to eat. I savored every bit of it.

Bakery was really cute. We ordered the cinnamon rolls on Saturday. Homemade and fantastic! They sell out early! We had several different cupcakes, but German Chocolate was the best! My son loved the chocolate chip cookies and asked for them all the time.

Fresh, homemade, and delicious! Picked up a large order for a party. Cupcakes, cookies, donuts, and cake truffles. All of it was so amazing! Highly recommend!

Had a good little selection. I had an apple pecan bread the only downside was when I picked up a fork and there was HAIR on it which kind of made me gag. Not sure I’ll be back but it wasn’t bad. Oh also wish they warmed up your food!

Great new bakery in Mechanicsville! We have gotten cookies, pies and more from here and everything we have tried is delicious! This is not one of those ‘chain’ store bakeries, but was named for the owner’s mother, as her last name was ‘Lark’.
Outside of this little store is a the old time chalkboard sign, letting you know what the feature product is for the day. One day may be mini pies and other day may be cupcakes, etc… It is a cute little shop, with limited amount of product, but that is also what makes it so great and you know that it has all been made by hand (other than the bagels, which they hope to be able to do soon as well).
So, go in today and see what they have, but I recommend stopping in early if you want the best choices because the goodies are delicious they will not last long!

This a is family own business and they are fantastic! !!! Best chocolate chip cookies I’ve ever had. They do a bakers dozen which mean 13^th item free. They are very warm and inviting family and you can see them baking and frosting products daily. Everything is fresh and baked that day. They have everything from bagles, cookies, cakes, cupcake, pies, turnovers, etc… But they were willingly to make a cake for my mom’s birthday that she hasn’t had in year’s that her mother made when is was a kid. I haven’t been able to find some one in the Richmond area thatis wwillingly to do it. And the Lark bake shop was like no problem. They are reasonable priced and with great product!!! I won’t be going to any other bakery from now on they have won my business.
