Mennonite farm store… Elderberry Jelly-check! Lebanon Bologna-check! John Cope’s Sweet Dried Corn-check! I love this store and am impressed with the amount of stuff that I remember from my childhood and my grandparents. My Grandfather was a Mennonite and visiting them and living in Central PA has given me a lot of great memories which Poor Farmers Market brought back!

We came across PFM many yrs ago when we got lost(we thought) on our way to Danville, Va & we have been coming a few times a yr. we now take vacations in the area & have rented the Poor Farmer’s Market Cabin & it is wonderful. its on Felecia’s(the owner) property & its just perfect for a get away. This whole area is great. lots more to see than you can imagine. There are so many things in the store to see & purchase you couldnt name them all. We always buy some pound cake, pintos & cornbread & all kinds of treats to take back to our room or cabin. The parkway is just RIGHT there to ride on for all the beautiful sites. All the staff there are super. Charlie & her husband are always so helpful & her son in law Tim is great. Felecia is always working somewhere too.

I absolutely love this store. It is probably my favorite thing about coming to Meadows of Dan(besides the beautiful scenery). I just love this town, in general. This little store has so much to offer. Fresh produce, blocks of delicious cheese, candy, homemade jellies, pickled everything, crafts, homemade soaps, souvenirs, etc. You’d be crazy to go in and come out with nothing! I ALWAYS buy some sort of sweet bread. This time, I bought a slice of banana nut and a slice of pumpkin nut. Looking forward to digging into them when breakfast rolls around. I also got a grilled cheese. Delish! Happy to hear they stay open all year round. Might be back in a few weeks to do some Christmas shopping ;)

There is so much more here than initially meets the eye. At first, as transplants to the area, this was the first place we found where we could buy locally produced fruits and vegetables. They also bring in butter produced in North Carolina. Later, we went further into the store and realized that they are the best place around for buying souvenirs and they have a large selection of locally produced jams and jellies and cast iron crockery. Then we discovered that they have a deli in the back. They sell some really nice settee gliders off of their back patio and they’ve recently started carrying signed books by local authors. On top of all that, they post photos and«heartbeat of the area» type statuses on their Facebook page.

My favorite place to go for lunch or supper. The staff is exceptional. The food is even better. My favorites: chicken salad, macaroni salad, possum pie. Always something interesting in the front store too.
