5 stars for the actual bagels. Not too big, boiled outsides before baking and soft centers. They are great! The sandwiches are ok, but the side dishes and desserts are fantastic. Great place for lunch. Weekend lines out the door.

I miss this place everyday. Great bagels, great cream cheese, great egg options. great everything. Growing up in McLean, I have been coming to Chesapeake since I was a very little kid. Never fails to hit the spot.

Went here on new years day because every other bagel shop was closed. Looked promising, but seriously disappointing. Not only was it overpriced, but the bagels were just. Not good. Got an egg and cheese as well as cream cheese and didn’t enjoy either of them. The egg was microwaved and just bad. Also they gave me a plain bagel even though i asked for everything. Only thing that looked good were the pizza bagels — wish i had gotten one instead. Do not go here! All of my friends agreed these bagels were no good!

I came here with my sister for breakfast as its her favorite local bagel spot. It’s a pretty standard local bagel sandwich shop with lots of options. We both got the avocado egg bagel sandwich(~$ 7 with tax) which included your choice of meat(sausage or bacon), tomato, onion, a generous portion of avocado and egg. It was incredibly filling as I could only finish half of mine! The service was friendly and I was impressed that our order came out under 10 minutes since it was a Saturday morning with a long line of customers.

My boyfriend is not known to be the foodie of our relationship, but he introduced me to something good on our recent travels… and that would be the bagels from Chesapeake. This is obviously a favorite spot for locals because it was a busy spot around 9:30 am… with an efficient line of people ordering from the bagel-assembly line. We chose Everything bagels with the Veggie-Lite cream cheese. I’m a huge fan of everything-bagels because they’re always so flavorful, and Chesapeake took that to another level. The bagels we got were freshly made, toasted perfectly, and you could taste the onions. I was also a fan of the cream cheese choice. Great bakery spot that won’t punch you with price-gauging!

I absolutely loveeee the bagels here. And what I love the most is the WHOLEWHEATEVERYTHING bagel. I think the reason I love it so much is because they put salt(kosher salt/like on a pretzel) on it. Yum, yum, yum. I get the whole wheat EVERYTHING bagel with plain, VEGGIE, or CHIVE cream cheese with LOX. Definitely my go to :) They have some baked goodies/little treats that appear to be homemade and look amazing. I need to try them one day. They also have egg bagels(yum — hard to come by at most bagel places). But I wish they had egg everything bagels(the holy grail of all bagels, a rare find!) The line can be long-ish on a weekend morning, which is to be expected. Just pay attention and be prompt with your order. Lots of neighborhood Mclean peeps hang out here. Décor is meh, needs a facelift. There are three to four tables outside to enjoy your breakfast/brunch.

Located in a strip mall, and décor is unassuming, however we are here for the bagels! Sunday morning before the rush is best. Bacon egg and cheese on an everything bagel was made quickly and delivered hot. Who can complain about that? No one! Delicious and filling. Also check out the ‘day old’ rack. You would never know and it’s half the price. The banana nut muffin was huge! And good.

it has all been said before in other reviews but, while the food is pretty tasty, the service and the prices are just terrible. i have never felt welcome at this place, the employees are always incredibly rude and rush you through the line. the menu is very unorganized, you can’t see it until you are in the front of the line, and they try to rush you to pick something. maybe out a menu on the door or on the other side of the bar? perhaps include your whole menu rather than have some sandwiches just advertised on the tables. half the items dont even have prices on them, several times things have been priced incorrectly. don’t expect to go here and get breakfast for under $ 12. i know this is mclean, but come on, try to be competitive. i enjoy the food, but until they change things up, i think i’m done trying this place

Meh. Bagels are ok. Starbucks makes far better breakfast sandwiches. Pricey for what it was. Disappointed.

Overpriced. Food is fine for what you get, but I had a bigger problem with the service. Nothing like getting snapped at for misunderstanding an employee the moment they bark at you for your order. Nevermind the fact that you can’t actually see the menu until you’re in front of it. Won’t be returning, I would pass too if I were you. There are better places in the area to spend your money.

I have tried this place repeatedly, each time feeling as though the food isn’t fresh. It appears according to their repeated health code violations that this may be not just a feeling but fact. Repeated violations for spoiling of food and sanitation is a concern that doesn’t warrant the higher prices they charge. source:

Fast service, comfortable atmosphere, and reasonable prices. The avocado eggwich with sausage might change your perspective on how a breakfast sandwich should be made. My only critique is the coffee is sometimes subpar.

While this place is pricey for bagels, this is NOVA and the cost of living is high here. That being said, this is definitely one of the better bagel shops in the area. I love their Poppy Seed and Plain bagels. Both hit the spot and are a great breakfast option!!!

Neighborhood bagel spot with pricey bagels and sandwiches. Decent but nothing to rave about. The décor hasn’t changed since the late 80s which confuses me because this place stays busy. The biggest gripe with this place is that they microwave there eggs. If your in McLean and don’t want to venture up to tysons this is the only alternative for a decent bagel this is the spot. FYI. This place gets packed in weekday mornings and even more Saturday and Sundays morning. This place needs a facelift and menu update to get anything more then two stars.

Great for a bagel. Good selection of bagel sandwiches. It’s just a causal deli to grab take out or stay for a quick bite to eat.

A little slow but friendly and out of this world house roasted meats. The turkey is the most moist I have ever has. Bagels are fresh and flavorful.

Before you read this review you must understand context. Where I go to school, there’s an excellent bagel shop(Bodo’s at UVA, if you were wondering) that most students will go to at least a few times a week. In coming to Chesapeake Bagel after spending a few months at school with the bagel shop there, all I could do is compare – and Chesapeake Bagel falls very, very short. Last time I came here I ordered an egg and cheese everything bagel. The egg is heated up in the microwave. I’m skeptical if it’s real egg, but it actually tastes good and is really fluffy. The cheese they use is American cheese – I’m not sure if you can request other cheeses – so it’s cheap, kind of plastic-y, but it melts well I guess. The bagel had good flavors but was kind of dry and not as fluffy, chewy, or moist like the bagels I’m used to. It all came around to $ 4/$ 5 bucks, and I feel like I could have made the same bagel sandwich at home for less than $ 1. Service is fast, though, and it hits the early-morning-breakfast-sandwich spot but I wouldn’t come again.

The smells coming out of this place are heavenly! Located just down from The Medicine Chest, this is McLean’s bagel joint du jour. I’ve been here several times and never been disappointed. It definitely becomes Cheers-esque after a while. They bake their large stock of bagels daily. So, ya know, they’re w/the freshness. There is a LOT going on behind the counter(sign wise). Don’t let it intimidate you though. Their staff is super nice and more than willing to explain what comes on what sandwich and such. I’m a big fan of their turkey bagel sandwich. Its large so be prepared to stretch your jaw. If they have a new special when I come in, I always have that. And it never disappoints. A few helpful tips: The drink fridges are right by the entrance so peruse them before you actually get in line. The line area is wee. Fountain drinks and coffee are located towards the register. Tell them whether it’s a to-go order or not when you actually order. Don’t want to hold up the rest of the line. Don’t loiter around the day old bagel stand or pastry case. Again, wee line area. Same goes for the«exit» door. Last tip: Go in. Order something. Enjoy. Thank me.

Stepping through the doors of CBB always floods me with memories of high school and running out during my free period for a bagel and smear. Not much has changed in the 10 years since I left high school.(I realize I just dated myself with that comment.) Same good variety of bagels, smears, and sandwich toppings. Want a pizza bagel? Coming right up! Want a bacon, egg and cheese? You got it! They also have wraps and salads too so you have options when you come here. I’ve never tried any of the pastry items that they offer, though some of them have been tempting. This place gets pretty hoping on the weekends and after school. If you looking for a faster breakfast option swing on by, but beware, I don’t know if the lines get as long as they used to in the am.

I have been going here for years, particularly as a kid. The pizza bagels are amazing, as are their egg sandwiches, and if you grew up here you are probably going to run into someone you know. I like the giant gumball machine in the seating area too. My enjoyment of their bagels is balanced out by the annoying parking lot, long lines, and loudness of the place. It can be very hard to communicate with the staff making your bagel because it is so loud and the line area is very narrow and you end up bumping butts with the people who are trying to pour their sodas. Between the parking lot and the lines, coming here isn’t really that convenient, it is more of an ordeal. Also great are the giant cookies served up by the cash register. Yum!
