They had a shipping container from France! That’s right they actually go out of the country on their own dime to shop and ship the goods so us lucky people can have the opportunity to buy authentic French antiques. This is so cool I recommend buying something, anything o keep these wonderful people in business and making money. The best Real antique store in McKinney for sure

So I walk in, just intending to see what they had, and I’m hit by this wonderful smell. I mean it really grabs you and leads you to the counter where you ask the man there, «What am I smelling?». He smiles and points to the corner in the back and says, «Kudzu Blossom». I get the feeling this is not the first time he’s been through this routine. Needless to say, you immediately pick up a candle and pull out your wallet. He says to trim the wick to keep it burning right and that other enthusiasts of this candle say that you can take any left over wax and use it as a sachet for the closet. Wow, this thing has a cult following. Completely entranced, I failed to notice the other items he had for sale and go on my merry way. In another shop downtown, someone asks me, «What did you buy at Chase Hall?», at which I smile and say, «This most wonderful candle …» and reach into my bag to show it to them. Before I can even get my hand on it, they smile and, nodding knowingly, say«Ahh, Kudzu Blossom…» This must be some kind of opiate…

Can antique stores be cool if you’re not an old lady dressed to the hilt in purple and red? You bet your a$$ they can, but only if they’re like this place. I sorta found this place by accident off the beaten path of McKinney square years ago. It’s nothing like any antique store I’ve ever seen in this area. The term«cool» gets thrown around a lot these days and hence it is underappreciated, but this place takes it to a whole new level. What makes this place so unique? Well it starts with how they source their merchandise. The owners will take a trip to England and cull through thousands of antiques all over the country, they then collect the best ones and ship them back to their store in a large cargo container. The treasures they find will take your breath away! Does anyone remember the«Legacy Trading Company» that used to be in the West Village? Well, if you miss that place here is your new Mecca. The store is smaller and stocked with older, better quality merchandise at far more reasonable prices than the duly-departed LTC. Like I said: this place takes shabby-chic and early 20th century British antiques to a whole new level. Here’s a small list of the types of things I’ve bought and things you can expect to find: 1) Awesome armoires(usually 2 or three in stock) 2) Statues(lost wax, plaster, ceramic) 3) Signs(I’ve bought a double-sided 50 lbs. solid copper pub sign the kind that hangs outside a pub in London and cast iron street signs that are installed in masonry) 4) tape measures, stationary, cameras 5) Stuffed animals(my all-time favorite purchase is a creepy looking stuffed 18th century cat that was obviously loved by someone as a kid**see my attached pic**) 6) Awesome Seltzer bottles 7) Tons of monster-sized bibles with hand-engraved leather covers, woodcut illustrations and metal latches to keep them closed. 8) Old fencing swords 9) Antique scales 10) Once I bought a fire extinguisher here, and then when I saw the movie Titanic I noticed it was the same type of extinguisher used on the ship(cone-shaped). 10) Crystal lighting fixtures… I could go on forever, but there’s always something new that you’ve never seen before anywhere else. The best part is if you’re looking for something in particular, just ask the owners. If they don’t have it, they can look for it the next time they go to Europe. Also, ask to get on their«mailing list». This way they will invite you to their after-hours showings whenever they get a new container in from Europe. They usually keep the store open late during these events and serve Chardonnay, sparkling wine and hors d’oeuvres. Also if you see something you really like, they have layaway.
