The menudo and flour tortillas were delicious. Server was nice and welcoming. Definitely recommend this place for Mexican breakfast.

While in McAllenn, we went out with the friends & they recommended this place. Arrived about 11;30 am & stayed till 1:00pm. There a total of about 30 tables which seat from 4 – 6 diners at each table. When we arrived there were maybe 6 tables occu[ied, and it remained at that count the whole time we were there. They have a buffet, but dont get excited: there werent that many differentdishes on it. They had caldo de pollo, caldo de res, nopalitos, baked chichen, refried beans, mexican rice, and fresh fruits. On the table was a small basket of chips. I cant say how good or not the chips & salsa were– we were too busy talking. I ordered agua fresca de jamaica. To me it didnt taste that good. Tasted of too much artificiak sweetener, they told me it was sweetened with sugar, but I didnt like it. Maybe it was the McAllen water which is salty from being si near the Gulf of Mexico. I endedup ordering an unsweetened ice tea. It was better. The two men in our party ordered the buffet & said the liked it. Both had nopalitos & caldo de res(beef soup), Valley style. My female fried ordered sopes de pollo. I ordered green enchiladas & requested they add chicken. The waitress told me that is how they make the enchiladas suizas, so that is what I ordered. The enchiladas were good enough, but the sides of beans &rice were verrrryyy skimpy, almost invisible. Surprising because beans & rice are the least expensive of ingredients. The whole thing, in my opinion, was no more than average. We had to wait around for the check. Total for the food, one jamaica &4 iced teas was over $ 60. Taco Fiesta is on the same side of McColll Road on the west side, across the street from each other. If you want to see a picture of the Enchiladas Suizas I ordered, Marlen C’s foto looks the same as mine, but I think I got cheated on the rice & beans :/ With as many Mexican & Tex-mex places there in this region, I dont think I would pick this place for a return visit. The agua de Jamaica(hibiscus) was a huge disappointment. Now that I think back, it was prolly from a mix. not the real thing.

Great Service!!! The food is delicious and the waiters are very nice. They never take too long to serve ur drink or ur food. I highly recommend the enchilada suiza plate and the Mexican plate, in this last one u have a taste of everything. The Caldo tlalpeno is also amazing. The coffee is delicious, so is the lemonade. Thumbs up !

I decided to give this place a second chance, since the first time I was here a LONG time ago, I was grossed out by the questionable cleanliness of the kitchen. Let’s just say there was a stow away in the food that really has no place on a lunch plate… Fast forward to now… Stopped by for breakfast. I wasn’t disappointed, but I wasn’t impressed either. They have a different daily breakfast special for 3.99 with coffee included. I decided to order the chorizo and egg plate for 3.99. The serving was generous enough, it did fill me up. It came with the chorizo and egg, some refried beans, and some potatoes on the side. I went with the flour tortillas. As for the cleanliness, I didn’t see anything with the potential to cause some sort of foodborne zombie outbreak… So that’s a plus… Waiting staff was attentive, although, the place was pretty much empty… Refills of coffee were prompt and our waiter asked if we needed anything a few times. Good balance of letting us enjoy our meal and asking if anything was needed. Kinda curious about the lunch menu now… Overall, good value, good sized portions, average tasting, good service…

This small restaurant is cheerful-looking and clean. The wall colors and decorations are bright, as you might expect in a Tex-Mex place this close to the border. There are large screen TVs on 2 of the walls and you can actually hear the program that is airing. I liked that the audio was not muted and that the program was kind of interesting(no Fox News!) I didn’t spend much time looking at the menu so I cannot comment on prices. I did see that the selection included the usual dishes. I had the buffet instead. The buffet had an interesting mix of Mexican and American dishes: chalupas(meatless), 2 kinds of fajitas, sliced smoked sausage with sauteed onions and peppers, meatloaf, picadillo con papas, instant mashed potatoes, peas & carrots, onion rings(similar to those that come in a red & yellow bag from the freezer case), quesadillas, chiles relleños(filled with picadillo con papas), cheese enchiladas, Mexican rice, 2 types of pinto beans(a la charra and refritos), 2 types of caldo(chicken and beef), liver & onions and a cold area with fresh fruit and basic salad ingredients. The waiter will also bring you hot tortillas if you like, offering your choice of flour, corn or a mix. I tried a variety of dishes and was surprised that almost all lacked salt and seasoning. The food looked fresh but… had so little flavor. I’m not usually one to salt my food at the table, either at home or at a restaurant. But I had to salt my food here(except for the meatloaf) because it otherwise was bland. Also, I could not spot any ketchup. Some people like it with their onion rings and meatloaf, perhaps other food too. The caldo was oily and without flavor. If you want fresh lime wedges(which really are standard at most local Tex-Mex restaurants) you must ask for them, they are not available even with the fruit at the salad bar. The service was good. The tableware given by the waiter consisted of a single fork rolled inside a paper napkin, no knife or spoon. If you need them, you get your own from the holder near the buffet. The dishes are the same boring tan-colored melamine that so many places use. Payment is at the end of your meal, at a station near the door. One lunch buffet and one drink, plus tax cost almost $ 10.00. So will I go back? Nope, not when Taco Fiesta is just across the street. If you wonder how business compares between the two neighboring restaurants, consider this: Taco Fiesta is so busy at lunchtime that they have a man driving a golf cart to ferry customers to and from their cars in the church parking lot nearby. Next time I’m in the neighborhood, I won’t hesitate to dine at Taco Fiesta.
