We hosted a bar mitzvah reception for our 7th grade boy on September 5. We used Pavilion C for cocktail hour and green screen photo booth in addition to Pavilion B for dinner and dancing for about 135 guests. The on-site team from Colonial Catering was wonderful and the«Grand Fabulous Feast» was fun and delicious. Our guests were raving about the entire affair from start to finish. The venue was perfect. The kids and adults had a really great time. Our DJ kept everyone dancing until the very, very end. He had glow sticks and necklaces, etc., that lit up the pavilion after dark. He also placed 10 wireless(green) uplights around the pavilion and in the fireplace. We used the standard blue and white checked tablecloths and all of the twinkly lights and lanterns that are provided by the venue. We used sunflowers in Mason Jars as centerpieces. The whole thing was beautiful. The climbing wall and zip line were a huge hit, especially in the dark! We didn’t know anyone who’d ever been to the Pavilions as a host or guest and took a total risk because we wanted a festive, boy-friendly outdoor party for his Labor Day weekend celebration. Thanks for a terrific event. I will recommend JR Picnics/Colonial Catering again.

What a nice little spot! My company had the yearly picnic here back in August. Its set pretty far back on Colonial, so far that you’ll pass one of the main gates for the CIA. Once you find it, they have a nice sized parking area set a good distance away from the fields(no fly balls breaking windshields= great). We made use of their volleyball courts, playground, and, of course, softball field. The field is good except that woods come right up to the edge of it in center field and along the 1st base line. So you’re going on an adventure walk if someone gets a really good hit. We also made use of their actual pavilions, 3 in all. To get to them you have to walk through a woodsy little archway. Once inside, its very, very pretty. They have misters set to the side for those hot hot days, and twinkle lights above all the paths. This would be a great place for a simple outdoor wedding reception. They had a soda fountain, water, and beer stations all set up for us, as well as blocked off a number of picnic tables. In the main pavilion there’s even a gorgeous stone fireplace. If you’re looking for a nice, out of the way, outdoor venue– check this place out!

This is not a typical review for this place probably because I came here for a wedding. Yeah, surprisingly, it wasn’t too bad. If you have a vision and decorations it can be a pretty spot, if you are the outdoorsy type. In this case, the lights were pretty and the fireplaces were cozy. It’s a little strange to sit at picnic tables, but with elegant table runners and table settings it was quite nice. It was fun and casual. It’s a little tough to walk out and on the gravel with high heels so bringing an extra pair of shoes was key. I think this is actually one of the first weddings that they did here, but I’m sure it’s good for other events as well in the warmer months. As most outdoor areas, you do have to watch out for the bugs.
