I thought TP was just OK. The dog had good snap but the chili could have been more flavorful. The dumplings were bland, I had hopes they would be close to those in Hungary but no. Wish I could go back to Budapest for more! The employees were the nicest people, as were 99% of the people I dealt with from Detroit airport to Toledo the last 2 days. Surely to have grouchy people on the flight back to Newark complaining about getting de-iced because of «flurries».

The entire chain recently changed from Coca-Cola to Pepsi products. While Coke and Pepsi are generally interchangeable, Diet Pepsi is a disgusting substitute for Coke Zero or Diet Coke. The only reason a restaurant changes is purely economical as Pepsi is available at a much lower cost, which helps make up for the incremental loss of beverage sales. What is further frustrating however is the change to Pepsi was paired with an overall price increase and a noticeable reduction in portion size of some menu items. While the food is still the same middle of the road sausage and chili, that Toledo natives think is top notch, it’s clearly over priced and cheapened by an inferior beverage selection.

Great place to eat once I visit Toledo — I can’t wait to get back to Toledo — I need an excuse hmmmm — these«hot dogs» are hard to forget — I’m planning a Mudhens game with my son and Tony Packo’s Then I would have been to all five locations The paprikash was great with a couple dogs with everything and a coke I ordered fries but will skip those next time, a little too much to eat before a 2 hour drive home

The best so far. The hotdog is cut in half the longway. Good flavor, good sauce came with thick pickle chips. Fries very good served no salt without asking the way it should be. The hot dog has it’s own unique flavor but I kept wondering, who has the other half of my hot dog?

This is a smaller restaurant in the Anderson’s. Its a little crowded up front when ordering at times but the food tastes similar to the original location in Toledo. The atmosphere is a little plain but there are some pictures in the wall showing their legacy including eating their food on the MASH set. Great if you are shopping and in a hurry but I prefer the downtown locations

Fast food, but not fast food. ;-) Started the meal with a fried pickle appetizer… crunch of the pickles along with their briny flavor dipped in a variety of sauces… what’s not to like? For my meal i selected a single«original» hot dog with all the fixings and a side of paprika dumplings. Truth be told, I’m not a fan of the hot dog’s flavor profile, but that’s not to say it was bad, just not my style. The paprika dumplings were pretty good as a side dish. My friend has the same hot dog with a side of chili(which i tasted) that I also did not care for. Oh well… it was fun giving this place a try!

Yep, 4 stars for«hot dogs» or coney dogs. Original, coney, cheese and onion with spicy pickles. Fries are great and we will continue to go anytime we are in the area. Can’t go wrong!

This is a great place to get your fix of Tony Packo’s food. the place sits inside of The Anderson General Store. I do like the hot German potato salad along with the Hungarian hotdog — I guess you could say this is my standard. The chicken paprika is OK. However, I have been taught how to make it by Slavic people — so it just doesn’t fit the bill for me. Note: if you like to take the hotdogs or Hungarian hotdogs or the pickles home — they are for sale inside of Andersons.

Tony Packo’s is a Toledo main stay, offering up tasty Hungarian-inspired fare cafeteria style since the ‘30s. Despite some ownership issues as of late, the chain is still serving up the same tasty hot dogs and paprikas I remember from childhood, as made famous by Jamie Farr on M.A.S.H.(check out the story on the Packo’s website if you aren’t familiar with it :)) This particular branch is located inside the Maumee Andersons(worth checking out on its own) but still has the same tasty food as the dedicated restaurants elsewhere. Though the atmosphere is more confined, it is a lot more convenient than driving all the way into Toledo if you live in the suburbs. For this visit, I tried the chicken paprikas… which I was craving(curse you Johnathan Harker and your lengthy discussions of recipes!) A very good choice, I got a nice serving of juicy chicken in a rich sauce over a bend of tender spaetzel. It’s a bit salty, but leaves you full and content. The meal was served with some bread and butter(I chose rye, which was fresh and chewy). I also really wanted some cherry strudel, but they were out… a bit disappointing. I remember the strudels as being very tasty, though. Worth a try if they have a flavor you like. They also had cookies and there is a stand for Toft’s ice cream right near by. My companions had the roast beef sandwich(open face and large in portion) and some of the classic Packo dogs which looked great. …I gather they were too. :) All of this is served on fairly sturdy disposable plates with plastic flatware. You bus your own tables, though the staff must clean fairly frequently as the place was nicely kept on our visit. As mentioned, ordering is done cafeteria style which can be a bit confusing if you don’t know the menu. It is available online, though, if you want to take some time beforehand to think about what to order without blocking the path. The people working the line were polite enough on our visit, and had no trouble making use of a coupon we had brought along. Of course, you can eat pretty cheaply even without a coupon, easily under $ 10 a person. The eating space itself is larger than you might think looking at the narrow cafeteria entrance when walking into Andersons. It isn’t as nifty looking as the dedicated chains with their walls of hot dog buns signed by famous people(though there are a few here too), but the lighting and soothing paint tones are pleasant. However, it is a bit echoy with even tiny noises seemingly amplified. For a quick fix of tasty Toledo Hungarian food, though, it’s worth dropping in.

Had a coupon for free hotdogs and dumplings here(although I have been here before.) Great concept inside this store. Quick service. Hot food with interesting posters and tiffany chandeliers hanging inside… not fancy but good food. Great to browse inside the store when you are finished. One of these days I need to get a cannoli just inside the store — they look delicious!

Although we had gorged ourselves at the original Tony Packo’s restaurant the day prior, we just *HAD* to take one last hit(to the stomach and heart) of Hungarian sausage and spicy pickles on our way out of Toledo! Mmmm what a fix! This Tony Packo’s is a mini version tucked away inside the larger«Andersons» store. Keep that in mind as you’re driving around beating up your GPS wondering where the hell it is! LOL! This«express» location is in a «food court» cafeteria-style versus their flagship restaurant: order at the counter, pay at the register, take your tray of food, and find a table to sit down. Our visit was during lunchtime and therefore crowded-busy! But not overly so and we still got our goodies without undue wait. Long live Tony Packo’s, the heartburn, and the coronaries!!! :)

A MUST if you’re in Toledo! But make sure it’s the original location.

Tony Packo’s in Maumee is a nice little café-style restaurant, tucked away inside The Andersons, featuring the food that made Tony Packo’s on Front Street famous in Toledo. When you get there, you stand in line and order your food fast-food style, although the food is far better than normal fast-food fare. They even have lunch combos, so ordering is usually pretty easy. While I’m not a big fan of their flagship Hungarian hot dogs, I AM a big fan of their«American dog» with chili sauce. My absolute favorite is the roast beef sandwich on rye with mashed potatoes and everything covered in gravy. Another home run is the paprikas, which is some sort of dumplings with sauce that is always satisfying. The staff at the counter is always great, and I suspect some of them are related because it feels like a family atmosphere. They also have a discount card which can save you a lot of money if you go often enough. As a final bonus, and this has nothing to do with Tony Packo’s, it is very convenient to head back to the pastry counter in Andersons for dessert. A win-win for everybody. Tony Packo’s is the place to go for a quick lunch in Maumee when you don’t want to feel like you’re eating fast food.
