Someone gifted a massage for me after I pulled something in my neck and I couldn’t be more grateful. This was my first experience and I’m happy to say, it was fantastic. I arrived a little early and was greeted and asked to fill out some paper work so they could gear my session more to my preferences and what I needed and would like. The woman who greeted me, Rosemary, was friendly and informative, explaining everything about my upcoming session. I waited in the tranquil room till my massage therapist was ready for me. Again, everything was explained and it was stressed several times to always speak up if there was something I didn’t like, or needed more of. Either way, I didn’t need anything changed. Everything was perfect! Marilyn was my massage therapist and I instantly loved her. She kept things lighthearted and I immediately felt comfortable with her. You could tell she loved her job and what she did. Things I especially liked, was she paid a lot of attention to my neck and shoulders and was informative in explaining why certain parts of my body was in pain. Very helpful! I had also gone to the chiropractor the day before and she took extra care not to undo my adjustment from that, which I greatly appreciated. The environment was clean, comforting and calming. My massage was heavenly, and I left pain free in my neck and shoulder for the first time in weeks! Stress and pain evaporated and relief at last! The time and consideration they took into taking care of me and my needs was simply phenomenal. I cannot wait to treat myself and go back!

I was dubious about going to a massage chain, but I had a good experience at Massage Envy. Atmosphere was relaxing; staff was friendly and helpful. My massage therapist(Lisa) was excellent. My severe neck and back pain was reduced dramatically. I was feeling so relaxed and mellow that I allowed the receptionist to talk me into a membership. After I left I began to have doubts, but now I think it’s definitely worth it because the massage helped me so much.(Membership is $ 60/month for 1 year with one free month; one 1 hr. massage per month with additional 1 hr. massages for $ 40. Upgrade to 1.5 hours for my next massage.) I don’t understand the negative one star review below. The staff made it very clear to me that I should speak up if I didn’t like what the massage therapist was doing — or if the heated bed was too hot or too cool — or if I wanted her to work on a particular body part. If you want a good massage you have to be in control.

So, it’s difficult to write a review that is half praise and half dissatisfaction for this locale as I really appreciate the internal culture that the two owners have created with their staff. As a former spa owner, I see through those eyes first when I enter a business followed by the perspective of the visitor. I recently made two appts at the Mashpee location on different days and different services. My facial with Rosemary was excellent. Her communication skills were professional and right on point with what one would expect from excellent training at the school level. Her treatment was equally as high quality. The second appt I made was for a 90 min massage with Kristin(or Christen — not sure of her spelling) who’s technique is excellent in the massage arena. I also added on a foot scrub and aromatherapy but did this at a later date from when I first made the appt(I note this as I’m wondering if this is where the scheduling mishap occurred). I showed up for my Monday morning(9:30am) appt in Mashpee only to be told that I do not have an appt. The receptionist looked in her computer and remarked that it was scheduled for the following Monday. That would all be fine and good if I were actually in the area, however I would not be back in this area until the fall. So the likelihood of that mistake being on my part is nil). Sad that I would not experience Kristen’s wonderful massage but a little frustrated as I’ve come to find when you are participating in a ‘membership’ type of personal service business, you go through many ups and downs. While the reasonable pricing is there, you are not guaranteed consistency in the form of service as the providers’ schooling and experience backgrounds are greatly varied. Massage Envy as a company, does not train in a standard service as some private spas maintain as minimum standards(or so it seems from my experience as well as others who have reviewed the many franchises). Not sure a membership club is my thing at this point after a year as a ME member for various reasons. Give it a try, you have a 50⁄50 shot at loving it. But to summarize and make a long story longer: the premises at both Mashpee and Hyannis are spotless, the front desk staff, while mostly gracious and professional, make mistakes(we are human, I get it), and the service providers have gems mixed in with the ‘Meh’ bunch.

After leaving a review about my terrible massage at this place, Massage Envys suggestion from their comment on my review is that I come back and give it another try. I’ve already wasted $ 70 for the worst massage I’ve ever experienced. It’s not quite a gamble I’m willing to take on a second sub par massage session. «Sorry we sucked once, why don’t you come back and pay again and maybe it will be better(this time I’m assuming it would be a full price massage at $ 119 plus tip, since I would now pay at a non member rate without the trial first massage pricing)» isn’t quite what I call outstanding customer service.
