Everything was good but not great. Good service. Hibachi guy was friendly and made the kids laugh. I recommend this if you live close and don’t want to drive to Columbus. $$

It takes forever to get your food. The rolls, at least the spicy tuna and the yellowtail was warm. Lucky I didn’t get sick. When I told them about it, they looked at me like I was crazy and never offered a new one. I decide to try it again, this time with coworkers, and the same thing… WARM food. …and no it wasn’t the rice that was warm. More than disappointed. If nothing changes, I’ll have it another year before it’s closed.

Very disappointed. The waitress was very nice and that is about all the good I can say. We order the jalapeño bomber roll. For a 15 $ roll u expect some actual fish in it. It had so little spicy tuna in it that you could not taste it. We both ordered the Bento box, s. The salad that came with it was extremely small for the prices charged. The tempura in the boxes was not tempura just over fried vegetable and egg roll. Tempura should be light and not oily what we had was very oily and far from light. We had teriyaki shrimp and it was way over cooked and tasted almost freezer burnt. The sobo noodles were far from being worth the up charge over rice. We also had tempura shrimp that was very oily and tasteless. We spent 80 $ with the tip and I wish we had eaten at the Chinese buffet down the street.

Yamato is a super fun dining experience! I went there several times for lunch & always did the hibachi grill, if you’ve done hibachi, it will be very similar. The food is quality and the hibachi aspect gives a fun twist to a normally boring meal. The atmosphere is casual & meals are affordable.

I want to give it a better rating because I want restaurants like this to thrive and populate in Marysville(we have way too many chains and«meat & potatoes» eateries). My wife and I lived in Japan the last three years and got to taste all realms of Japanese food from ¥100 «sushi-go-rounds» to top-notch Ginza, Kyoto, and Kamakura restaurants. I love Japanese food from traditional ramen to sushi to tempura to sashimi, and I even enjoy«Americanized» Japanese food as well. That said, the food quality at Yamato was solid. The nigiri and sashimi both had good taste, but the portions were too small for the price(My wife’s soba noodles and tempura were okay, but she prefers ‘Kihachi’ in Dublin). The Gyoza(sic — «dumplings”/“pot-stickers») were also Tasty, but again, small and not enough for the price. The restaurant was experiencing some early day hiccups, but that is understandable and acceptable for any reasonable diner. I would like to try again and give it one more shot in a few months,(and if Yamato succeeds with their current setup, good on them! Again, it’d be GREAT to see restaurants like this succeed in Marysville!) but in my opinion, it’s missing the mark as it is right now. My two crazy suggestions: — Tone down the atmosphere from«party» to «peaceful,» or at least do a better job of segregating those two halves of the restaurant. Japanese can both have a fun time, but their restaurants are traditionally reserved and quieter. — ¥100 «Sushi-go-round»(or a smaller version of it) may sound crazy(and it probably does. I just miss those restaurants so much!), but where in America besides a place or two in California can you get it? It’d be a MAJOR attention grabber, peak curiosity from diners far and wide, be a fun taste of home for Marysville’s Japanese visitors(of which there are many that pass through due to our many Japanese-owned businesses), and the inexpensive food might get some people(no seafood-themed pun intended) ‘hooked’ enough on Japanese food to try the rest of Yamato’s menu.

Finally, Japanese food in Marysville. What a concept! I’ve been waiting for a couple of months for this to open. Actually, I think all of Marysville has. Nothing fancy from the outside, pretty nice and modern inside. Bigger than I expected, with plenty of hibachi tables. I chose to sit by myself, but I could see the show. It was good, and everyone at that table seemed to be having a blast. Since I came at lunchtime, I got a lunch portion of hibachi steak, and I started with a California roll in case that wasn’t enough(and to see what the sushi is like.) The roll was well made, with fresh ingredients, and I enjoyed it. They brought the usual salad with ginger dressing(they have a few dressing options,) which was, well, iceberg and dressing, nothing special. There was also miso soup, again, decent. The main course was steak, fried rice, grilled veggies, and lo mein noodles. The veggies were great, the rice and noodles were pretty typical. The steak was good, not great. Maybe a little overdone, but not bad. Plenty for one for lunch. Service was excellent. Prices are reasonable for what you get. I bet this place will be hopping on the weekends once word gets out. I prefer Daruma in Hilliard myself, or Hibachi Express if I’m getting it to go, but this is a solid addition for Marysville.
