This place is more than a great breakfast/lunch spot; it is a quaint, clean, and affordable motel. If you are going to be doing anything in the area, I highly recommend you stay here. It has a lot of personality and is owned by a sweet woman who’s friendly daughter helps out at the restaurant on site.

I have been coming to Markleeville for two years now, and never forget to stop into Sandy’s Toll Station for breakfast! Her food is amazing. If I could go there every morning for breakfast I would. Her green chili sauce is to die for!(You’ve gotta try them over her home fries!) She really does breakfast in such a home cooked way, you can’t imagine anything better when eating there. Her new remodel to make it more of a lounge café as well as her restaurant is perfect for coming in during the winter snow season and sitting on the couch with a hot latte, or hot chocolate for the kids. Sandy’s kids help her out when busy, and they are amazing, super nice, considerate, and very helpful. It just makes you appreciate the small town life!

Great chili verde breakfast over tortilla. Homemade green sauce. Big piece of ham with the ham and eggs. Nice ambience.

Found this place quite by accident on a trip to the Eastern Sierras. The hamburger is wonderful. This is the taste that I remember from my youth before fast food hamburgers had reached the middle of America. Sandy, the owner does a bang up job. My burger was flavorful and juicy. The desserts looked great, but after that hamburger, I was as full as a tick. Quality espresso to boot! If you like home cooked meals and home made desserts look no further. If you are Markleeville near lunch time THIS is the place. It is a family affair, Her delightful and charming 13 year old daughter was our waitress for our lunch.

We were on a motorcycle ride through the Sierras and knew that Grover Hot Springs would be our first destination. Sandy took my reservation and gave us such a nice welcome. From the outside we did not expect much. The rooms are a little worn, but smelled and looked clean. Beds were comfortable, clean and not worn out. There are only a few rooms available at any given time here, so a reservation mattered. In the morning, very early before any café opened, Sandy brought us a delicious cup of coffee to start our day. So, two things: Sandy is awesome, and you must go to Grover Hot Springs and soak in the waters after a long motorcycle ride!

Its all about the biscuits and gravy and the eggs Benedict. Both special homemade recipes by Sandy(owner) this girl can cook a mean breakfast. Traditional style breakfast joint, that brings a sense of home cooking with extra love and a touch of the organic healthy style. She also has Lattes and bagels and such if your too hungry. Sandy is committed to making sure she uses only the finest ingredients. While trying to shop as locally as possible. Not only does she have an adorable little restaurant she has an even more adorable 5 or 6 room hotel. Including one cabin. Sandy has personally remodeled each room to be an authentic little mountain retreat. While she is only open in the summer time if you are driving through little old Markleeville be sure to stop in and say hello to her!
