Great authentic sushi! We have been going here for years. We are neighborhood locals and enjoy the good value for money and high quality fish. Our favorites include salmon sashimi, yellowtail sushi, and the lobster roll. One of our favorite appetizers is the steamed artichoke. The owner Jay comes over to say hi every time we go in. We appreciate the care he takes in going to the fish market every day to get fresh fish. This is a real Japanese owned restaurant. The high quality fish and enthusiastic staff keep us coming back weekly.

Super tasty chicken gyoza, Cali, Spicy Tuna and Shrimp Tempura rolls… the California roll was exceptional and you could really taste the crabby freshness. Perfect supper for a just before close and after movie experience on a quiet Thursday night. $ 38 seemed a reasonable price for all of that. Attentive service and the place is surprisingly huge inside with a lot of fairy lights and booths. I had walked past this unassuming façade and never would have guessed the cavernous room that it protected. I could imagine this place being quite rowdy and fun on a weekend. A few large tables that would be great for groups and a perfect place to down some saki shots… ah now that’s an idea

Went on a Friday night at 7:30; restaurant was pretty empty. It was just my toddler and I. And was surprised that they weren’t more attentive to us since the restaurant was pretty empty. Order a spicy tuna hand roll it was pretty good. Wasn’t a huge fan of the seaweed salad. Took over 10 minutes for them to being my bill? Went here for the mere convenience otherwise I would never go. This has been my 3rd time here and ONLY because it’s within walking distance to our place otherwise I would never have frequented it more than once.

Absolutely AMAZING sushi! My husband and I go here at least once a month and they always serve the most tender and fresh fish I have ever had at a sushi restaurant. Their indoor lighting is festive and the service is friendly and inviting. Would be happy to keep this place our little secret but want to share with other sushi lovers.

Ambience is cool but fish was not fresh. When a Japanese restaurant smells like fish when you walk in, it’s not a very good sign. Not coming back.

Great food, best baked crab handrolls I might have ever had(and btw they are actually pretty big which makes it even better), I must say though that we came here on Sunday, and we sat at the sushi bar, where Shin(he is the man! such a fun and welcoming gentleman) was cooking and he is in Kifune only on sundays so I dont know how the hand rolls are the rest of the week. Nice ambienance, good service and great food. We ordered 3 times before to take out and even though it was good we enjoyed the experience today a lot more. We’ll be back and most definitely will be on a sunday.

(DISCLAIMER: I’m a sushi bar fanatic) OK, I’m going to keep this short. I. Love. Sushi. Bars. I’m local, and it took me a few years to stumble in here. Here’s my tip: Sit at the bar. Offer to buy your chef a drink. Make new friends. Awesome.

I was craving sushi and decided to try this place. I wasn’t very impressed, the menu was quite small and the sashimi wasn’t in ratio with the rice. I ordered the assorted sushi/sashimi platter and the rolls were tiny. My boyfriend ordered the beef noodles thinking they were chow mein style but a big bowl of soup came out, this should’ve been specified in the menu. He ordered a gyoza appetizer instead and that one was the most delicious out of our whole order. Our server was the nicest girl ever and the ambiance was relaxing.

I found this restaurant after passing it when I was walking to the beach one day. It was perfect because they’re open till 11, and I had plenty of time for my late night snacks. Server was nice and attentive. Everything tasted fresh:-) had the salmon, Ikura, Spanish mackeral, and ankimo. Be sure to try the baby octopus salad, pretty unique dressing. Tasted like kimchi sauce. Their tempura was good too, hard to find good, light tempura. The only thing I didn’t like we’re the rolls I felt had a lot of rice and no flavor. Might just be me though. Everything else was good. Real crabmeat California rolls:-) Will come back for suree.

Employees here were so rude that I left stunned and insulted. I’ve been going to sushi bars since I was in diapers and they treated me as if I’ve never been to a sushi bar before. First they wouldn’t let my date and I sit where we wanted to sit at the sushi bar. Then they informed us, unprompted, that we could only order sushi and appetizers at the sushi bar. Well, obviously, it’s the SUSHIBAR. They handed us hot towels that LITERALLY smelled like old gym shoes. We proceeded to put the towels up on the bar, by where the other patrons had put theirs. The hostess rushed over and told us we kept them on the lower level right in front of us to wipe out hands on between orders. Everywhere I’ve been that serves hot towels take them away within 5 – 10 minutes… I then asked for a speciality menu and asked, «do you make something like a Hawaiian roll? It’s avocado and maguro…» I was abruptly cut off by the hostess rudely«explaining» that I need to tell them how to make the roll. They refused to suggest anything or show us a list when we asked if they had any specialty roll. Other than the general sour demeanor, the icing on the cake was being told that«a lot of people like me» go there and order complicated rolls when I asked if they made anything without rice with a cucumber wrap. I’d understand if we were a couple drunk, rude, rowdy teenagers but we were greeted with the general attitude that we weren’t welcome the second we walked in. Absolutely awful.

Sushi restaurants run by Japanese are hard to come by these days. It’s not just the sushi that is good… it’s the other side dishes, too. The California roll even has REAL crab instead of the imitation stuff you get everywhere else.

Great restaurant! Friendly and very polite staff — fun sushi bar — with great sushi chefs– joking and making a performance of sushi art — customer oriented! Nice ! A happy festive place — want to come back! We spent 2 New Years in the restaurant– beautiful experience– btw — sushi and Japanese menu — is excellent! 10+

I couldn’t leave LA without trying sushi(or so I was told)… I’m actually very surprised now reading so many bad reviews. The waitress was practically tripping over herself to help me and to my table and take my order. I got the spicy tuna and the onolicious roll but subbed spicy salmon for the crab(shellfish allergy), and shared the truffle edamame. Everything was great and seemed very fresh. The sushi chefs at the bar seemed really friendly to everyone sitting there and really helpful at explaining as I overheard. I was surprised by how big this place was– from the outside it looks pretty small but when you go in it’s huge. They also decorated it like I’ve never seen for Halloween. The whole place was decked out with cobwebs and decorations, and it was absolutely adorable.

The food here isn’t good enough to justify the price. It’s not even that expensive. The service is terrible and certainly doesn’t warrant a return. It’s too bad, because I really used to like coming here, but waiting over an hour in an empty restaurant for mediocre food is just not OK with me.

It’s the local dive bar of sushi! The chef’s banter with drunken customers is what keep this place going. This is not a place to go for amazing food. For the price the sushi was blah; what came out may have been acceptable at a value-oriented sushi joint like an all you can eat Chinese buffet. However at this price I’m going to be picky about how the rice was hard and gooey, the fish was basic grade and didn’t pop; my anago came out cold and mealy like pressed tofu. Looking at my final bill I could have had a decent omakase at Irori or Sugarfish just a bit inland. Experience comes from making mistakes. This was a mistake.

Now THIS is real sushi! I’ve come here many times and always walk away full and happy. The owner(Jiro) is from Japan and super friendly. The sushi is fresh and comes in large pieces. The California Rolls are to die for. They use REAL crab, not that imitation stuff. Once you taste the real thing, you’ll never want anything else.

Insanely expensive. California roll is 5-pieces and over $ 9. Yellowtail is my favorite and this is the only place it ever tastes fishy. Over time their serving sizes have become smaller. The bar inside is usually very noisy. And you may or may not get verbally abused by sushi chef… who is typically hammered. Unfortunately it is the only sushi place walking distance to my house.
