Papeno’s is located behind a gas station outside of Marengo Caverns on Highway 64. It is a mobile home trailer and has a tanning salon in the back. Weird, huh?

I wanted to get lunch while my husband toured the cave. Half a dozen Formica tables, a beverage cooler and the cooking area take up the entire space. I figured the food would be mediocre but I was wrong.
My 12″ pizza was thickly covered with vegetables per my request. It was light on sauce and crispy. Steve’s to go 6″ turkey bacon sub sandwich was also reportedly excellent. The food and 3 canned sodas came to $ 20.00.
Don’t pass this little gem based on looks alone. The food is worth the stop.
