And Scott’s, which had re-opened in a medical arts building on Millburn Avenue(but in Maplewood) didn’t last long-it closed last week.

Scott runs one of the last old style delis in the area. He makes delicious breakfast sandwiches and I am a fan of the roast beef Sloppy Joe. For those who think of a Sloppy Joe as hamburger meet and tomato sauce on a bun. in this area a Sloppy Joe js a double decker sandwich with cole slaw and Thousand Island dressing on rye. They are big and delicious. Scott makes the roast beef himself and is always at the deli making sandwiches to order. Prices are very reasonable. Open for breakfast and lunch.

Used to be «Nats Deli» — thought the food would change.(Nats Deli had delicious food!) Scotts Deli is great. They make the best Ruebens, Cheesesteaks and Bacon Egg & Cheese! My favorite deli. Oh, don’t forget the famous sloppy joe’s!!!

I thought I knew what a sloppy joe was. I was greatly mistaken. Thankfully, Scott’s Deli has set me straight. I always thought a sloppy joe was ground beef in a tomato sauce on hamburger buns. No, a sloppy joe(New Jersey style) is this: turkey deli slices, swiss cheese, Russian dressing and coleslaw on rye bread. And Scott’s Deli serves them up right: a big sandwich packed with the goodness and just enough sloppy. I tried the turkey sloppy joe and it was delicious! This might be a must-do anytime I come to NJ in the future. We had them delivered to where we were staying, so I can’t say anything about the actual restaurant building, but their delivery service is great.
