Had a great night here the other night. Great food and atmosphere. Drinks were good too!

Atmosphere, service, and location are all 5 star at this fun, local eatery. Our dining date nite was delightful with a couple Missouri made cheese options for appetizers, both were tasty. We had lamb, catfish, and a Cuban sandwich. The drink selection is amazing. If you like wheat beer with a little daring twist, I’d recommend the ‘Hopfentea’ bitter until you add the woodruff syrup… then it is amazing! Evidently a Belgium tradition. Made our reservations on Unilocal.another cool, convenience! 4 stars instead of 5 only due to prices… a little steep for the quantity IMO.

Waow! Had an awesome experience here while visiting St. Louis. It was a special day for my family(Mother’s Day, Sister’s Graduation, Dad’s Birthday)…I had briefly mentioned this booking a reservation, not expecting much… but from the moment we walked in until we left the host and servers made our experience extra special. The food = simply amazing. We ordered 3 small plates and 3 larger plates. The 3 small plates included the braised beef cheeks(probably my favorite… melts in your mouth), bacon fat fried cornbread(perfect texture and flavor), and the al pastor. ALLYUM! Then we ordered the fried catfish(my least favorite… not enough curry flavor and a bit too salty), pork loins, and the reeds cheeseburger(another favorite)! The burger is amazing… like many others reviewed on here. It comes with thinly sliced, perfectly fried fries. For dessert(which was on the house because of the special occasion), we got the bittersweet chocolate tart with a scoop of the thyme ice cream and vanilla bean ice cream. Delicious as well. Overall, the price was more than worth it for the delicious meal, excellent service, and wonderful experience. Much more affordable that I had expected with 4 drinks as well I would highly recommend dining here!

Hands down my favorite restaurant in St. Louis. From the small plates to the cocktails, Reed’s has never been a let down(with the exception of their Reuben sandwich that is no longer on the menu). A few of my recent favorite small plates include: 1) Burrata from the cheese selection sid: creamy, subtle, and simply a phenomenal start to any meal 2) Pickled Vegetables: this remains my absolute favorite dish because of the pickled cauliflower and the curry underneath — texture, flavor, and aromatics all work brilliantly. 3) Mushroom on toast with bone marrow: rich, umami flavor and warm crusty bread — what’s not to love! I’ve skipped main courses the last few visits so I can’t comment on the recent menu other than the pork loin with creamy spinach and pickled onions, which was well-balanced — subtle but flavorful. A solid choice. Pastry Chef Summer Wright is always changing up the desserts, and on my last visit didn’t have the fantastic panacotta from my previous dinner. But it’s ok! They still had the thyme ice cream, which on first bite might be a bit shocking especially if you aren’t used to herby, savory ice creams. Have a second and third spoonful and you’ll thank me you did. I also have to tip my hat to the always fantastic, friendly servers and to Andrei Ivanov, their beverage director who also helps front of house. He is always welcoming and obviously extremely knowledgeable when it comes to the food and wine/cocktail pairings. I am and will be a regular as long as I remain in St. Louis.

This has been one of my favorite stops in St. Louis. While in town for a work conference my manager arranged a family-style dinner at Reeds. We were seated upstairs in a dimly-lit room that conveyed cozy despite us having ample space. Our group had a case of the giggles and a touch of the ridiculous about us so it’s best for all involved that we were seated away from the main dining area downstairs. Everything I tried was amazing(really), so I’ll just go ahead and walk you through our menu: + Bacon-fat-fried cornbread with thyme butter and honey: we could have stopped here with a pan of this cornbread and I’d have slapped a five-star rating on it + Veggie toast: I can’t remember what all was on it, but it was so tasty. My coworker was kind enough to split his with me because the toast for the table had mushroom and bone marrow, neither of which I was interested in ingesting. I’m not a vegetarian [as evidenced by my ode to that bacon fat cornbread above], but I’m sure if I had spoken up when we received our menu for the evening they’d have happily made me the veg alternative. + The best salad of all time: kale, roasted squash, pepitas, bacon, feta, and maple juniper dressing. When I read the description I was kind of «meh» because in general I’m not a big fan of kale, maple, or things that taste like gin. This combination though — I can’t. They brought us an enormous bowl and we had more than enough so I wish I’d taken more. The chew of the squash with the crispy, salty bacon and the sweetness of the dressing was perfection. Hot tip for other kale salads: chiffonade your leaves so it can be chewed in a reasonable amount of time and effort. + Roasted cauliflower: simple, delicious. + Polenta with goat cheese, honey, and toasted walnuts: basically a dessert before dessert. The polenta was perfectly creamy and the nuts added the needed crunch. It came in a huge bowl and I could not stop laughing at how it jiggled when moved. + Chocolate tart with brown butter caramel, hazelnuts, and fresh whipped cream: so rich, and so delicious. I have a major sweet tooth but I couldn’t finish my slice. If I hadn’t had the polenta I probably could have done it. I was full by the time dessert rolled around but I wasn’t about to pass up such a lovely end to the meal. A beet salad and porchetta were also served but I did not partake — they both looked beautiful but I was maxed out on food and I don’t think I’d be able to handle the fattiness of the porchetta. We also had our choice of wine. Reeds helped set the stage for a perfect dinner with my coworkers — they took what was sure to be a good evening and made it excellent.

Stopped in after a wine tasting down the block. Busy Thursday evening, but we managed seats at the bar height tables in the front window. After consulting with the server on the menu we ordered 3 small plates. First came the Braised Beef Cheek, the four gras cream sauce played beautifully with the beef, bread and arugula. Second came the Sticky Glazed Pork Belly, again great flavors although the rice was a little spicy for me(I’m a wimp). Last the Ricotta Gnocchi, lots of herbs made it delicious. Since my guy ordered a second beer I scored dessert, getting the Olive Oil-Orange cake. Very tasty especially with the passion fruit caramel sauce. I enjoyed all the delicious flavors and look forward to trying more!

I like this place a lot! The staff was excellent and took care of our big group of 12 for dinner! I really loved the beer selection and tried a couple, nice to try new beers! This is family style food so the amount of food brought to the table was pretty incredible! The bowl of Kale was about the size of a basketball! All the food here was presented really well. I was the only vegan at the table so I got some special little dishes, that were still huge portions! I had a beet salad, Kale, and I got a nice bowl of Pasta with pine nuts! The pasta was definitely my favorite! I really enjoy having a nice cup of coffee to top the meal off, while my pals dug into desserts! I liked the layout of this place, our table was upstairs and was a beautiful long room that might you maybe able to rent out for small parties if you desired! All in all a fun experience with great food and cool, friendly staff!

Sometimes you have to revisit a place before writing a review on Unilocal. My first visit here when they first opened was not stellar and I held off on my review until I was able to come back and give them a second chance. Giving them six months made a difference. My second visit was after Reeds made the STL100 list. If it made Ian’s list, I knew I had to give them a second chance. However, I also knew I wasn’t going to be able to order Ian’s «must order», Braised Beef Cheek. I’m adventurous, but on this night I didn’t want to be trying something new and have it jeopardize my second visit. Dining alone, I opted to sit at the bar and enjoy my meal. I was torn between the catfish or Reed’s Cheeseburger. I decided I had enough catfish during lent, so I went with the cheeseburger. Ian was right with his comment about the St Louis burger elite, this burger was a true gem. When I ordered it, the bartender informed me that they only prepare it medium rare and asked it that was okay with me. Of course it was, that is how I normally order my red meat. It was juicy, tender and perfectly done. The melted white cheddar was draped evenly over the entire burger. I was totally impressed with the garnishment of the burger. I would have never thought of putting a pickled green tomato on a burger. Also, the use of boston bib lettuce gives this burger more class then a typical cheeseburger. The fries were slender and crisp and accompanied with a little cup of ketchup. The burger had a side of tallow aioli, which I used for the fries. The burger was seasoned well enough and that pickled tomato was perfection for me. I’ll be back to try the catfish. Bartender, other wait staff and manager on duty were all attentive and friendly. Probably the best service I’ve gotten sitting & eating at a bar. The big negative I have for Reed’s and my advice to you, is do not let them sit you upstairs. It is claustrophobic, cramped and dark. If they start to take you up the steps, tell them you’ll wait for a table downstairs and go enjoy a drink at the bar. When: April 24, 2016 Why: Dinner &STL100

I made reservations and we were seated right away. It was a bit noisy, the service was pretty good. But a lot of the wines by the glass on the menu are no longer available. Then you get up sold from a $ 10 glass of wine to a $ 35 ½ bottle. Which has 2.5 glasses of wine, per the servers indication. Also the cheeses were very good-we had the tumbleweed, $ 10, for 4 very small slices of cheese and a few almonds. Very tasty, but really? We then split the scallops, which were very good, the gnocchi, also tasty, and the kale salad. The food was delightful, but for the size of the shareable plates, I would’ve expected more food. $ 120 for two people sharing plates with a little wine. Pretty pricey — maybe if it was a quieter atmosphere instead of tables very close to one another and the noise level was more controlled? Bottom line: good food, pricey, loud. Just know going in.

Decided to try Reeds for my girlfriends birthday. First when you walk in you are at the nice and cozy bar area. When were walking to our table our hostess took us up to the second floor which was a giving off a very nice vibe. For the food, too start off we ordered the fried pickles that came with a dill dipping sauce, the bacon fat fried cornbread with thyme butter, and the al pastor. The pickles are self explanatory. The cornbread was superb. There was a crispy exterior with a soft inside. The thyme butter added some extra flavor for a nice touch. Probably the best thing I ate that night was the al pastor. It was described to us as an open face deconstructed taco. A pile on mouth watering pork on top a potato cake with a jalapeño sauce on the plate. If you wanted to just try one thing, this would be the thing. For the main course, we shared the braised chicken thighs. The chicken came with greens and their version of dirty rice. Once again everything tasted fantastic! Finally what’s a birthday meal without dessert. We split the poached pears. They came with two almond flavored cookies and was so delicious. The vibe of the restaurant was amazing and the staff was more than willing to go the extra mile to make this a great dining experience for their patrons. Our waiter was more than willing to answer our questions and explained the drink menu and food menu very well. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a great evening and this place is great for groups of people to share a bottle of wine and small plates.

Really glad I made a reservation because the people in front of me were told the wait would be approx 1 hour. My friend and I came here for dinner last Friday after seeing some Instagram photos of delicious-looking food from Reeds American Table. The service was fantastic/prompt. Our server greeted us, filled our water glasses, and told us about the daily specials. She provided very good recommendations for drinks, entrees, and dessert. For dinner, I ordered the bacon fat fried cornbread(for sharing, of course) and the spaghetti + clams while my friend ordered the fried catfish. The cornbread was as savory and mouthwatering as I expected it to be. It was definitely comparable to the cornbread at Taste, but less greasy/fatty. The spaghetti had a ton of flavor and a satisfying number of clams in it. I actually liked the fact that the spaghetti wasn’t covered in tomato sauce. For drinks, I ordered«The Au Pear»(delicious but too strong/bold) and the«What She’s Having»(citrusy and light). We were very full by the time we were presented with the dessert menu, but the dessert descriptions were so enticing, we couldn’t say no. For dessert, we split the roasted pears and the lavender panna cotta. Both desserts were phenomenal, unique, and not overly sweet. Overall, great food and great service. I look forward to coming back!

There was so many items I’d been looking forward to trying: Mussels, Beet Salad, Cauliflower, Trout however none of these items were available during my dining experience today. Although I was a little disappointed I cannot deny the fact that Reed’s left a delicious taste in my mouth. Starting with the ahhhhhmazing Mushroom Toast. Just the right amount of bread not to overwhelm or soak up the flavors. There was an assortment of delicious mushrooms: shitaki, crimini, oyster cooked down(almost stew-like) mixed with fresh tomatoes and goat cheese topped with delicate frisée to form the perfect«appetite curver». Don’t Google«appetite curver» I totally made that up just as I typed this review. I was going to leave well enough alone as none of the dessert options really raised an eyebrow for me. That was until I had a brief but in-depth conversation with my convincing server Tasha. Once she described the pear dessert I was sold. And AGAIN, I was blown away by its magnificent deliciousness. Perfectly sautéed pears with mascarpone whip, 2 tiny gluten-free cookies in a sauce so superb you’ll wanna slap yo mama! After taking the last bite I was immediately saddened it was all over. The dessert was small enough to satiate but not good enough to leave you wanting more. Finally, Tasha was an excellent server; very informative, knowledgable of the menu and perfectly personable. I took myself on a tour and was in awe of the wine cellar located on the second floor. Andre invited me inside to take a gander and even allowed me to snap photos… I appreciated his hospitality. I’m eager to return for the Skatewing dish; hopefully it’s not gone by the time I make it back. I love this place for so many reasons but I’ll stop here I’m way over my word count. ~Christy

I was looking forward to trying this place given the amount of great reviews in such a small amount of time. Well, they certainly didn’t disappoint! From start to finish, Reed’s was one of the most enjoyable dining experiences I have had in quite a while. Situated in the space formerly known as Home, Wine, Kitchen, Reed’s is in downtown Maplewood and has 2 floors of seating. The main floor where the bar and kitchen is located is obviously a bit noisier than the 2nd floor. We chose to sit there as we were celebrating a belated Valentine’s dinner. We also brought our own bottle of wine for the occasion. Our server was great, although, I didn’t catch her name… we were greeted and brought waters quickly and she then sent over the sommelier to open our wine. He was friendly, knowledgable and informed us of their awesome wine deals! If you bring in your own bottle but buy from them(also can take home), they wave your corkage fee. So naturally, we did that. Awesome deal! We started with a couple of cheese selections, those vary frequently, but our server helped me choose ones that fit our pallet. We also ordered the scallops with a Brussels sprout hash and then split the short ribs and the pasta con broccoli. Everything was delicious! The scallops were perfectly cooked and paired well with the hash and the short ribs were not fatty, and went well with the carrots and potatoes. The pasta was my least favorite, but still great. Semi-rich and not too creamy. I am really looking forward to my next visit! Thanks for a great night!

I really enjoyed every aspect of my dinner here tonight. Wine, cheese, small plates and dessert were all delicious, but the kale salad had to be my favorite. Although I didn’t have a least favorite. And I need to come back at least 10x so I can have the whole menu. Our bartender/waitress was fantastic! She made wonderful recommendations throughout the evening. Despite our semi early arrival as a party of 2 on a random Wednesday in February we would have had to wait 45 min unless we sat at the bar! Crazy but speaks to the awesomeness that is this restaurant. And for a party of 2, the bar was just fine.

Wow! Wonderful new date night restaurant. We went here on a Saturday at 7p without a reservation — brave! But, somehow it worked out for us and we were immediately seated upstairs. They do save tables for walk-ins. The atmosphere is wonderful. Dark, warm woods. My hubby said it was a wonderful configuration for a restaurant. We started with drinks — my husband got an IPA and I got a glass of red wine. They had this wonderful cocktail book that explained all the drinks but the waitress was also VERY knowledgable. Drinks were fabulous, we got a second round. We started with the cheese sampler(3 for $ 16). My favorite was the goat cheese, my husband liked the«green hill.» Excellent presentation with house made crackers. For entrees, I got the lamb stew and my hubby got the pork shoulder sandwich. The stew had the absolutely best flavor, reminiscent of Indian but very much a comfort food on a cold day. My hubby’s sandwich was just wonderfully cooked, the meat had the consistency of melted butter. The apple butter really brought the flavor together. His came with so many shoestring fries — I don’t normally love shoestring fries but these were very nice and crisp but soft in the middle. We decided to do dessert, date cake with housemate frozen yogurt. It was good but not entirely my style. The service was awesome — Kirsten really knew her stuff and she was extremely pleasant. She checked on us the right amount and was very knowledgable about the menu items. The only(not very) negative point I will say is the support staff who brought the dishes didn’t explain them — like which cheeses were which. But Kirsten came right over to make sure we knew! Our bill was $ 93 with four drinks, cheeses, 2 entrees, and dessert — not bad! My hubby said he was happy to spend a $ 100 on that meal — which NEVER happens. The entrees were reasonable($ 11 – 19) so don’t worry about spending too much unless you indulge like we did. We immediately began talking about when we would be back and who we wanted to come with us. What a delightful place with fantastic food and excellent staff. A MUST try.

I think I have a new favorite restaurant in St. Louis! I enjoyed dinner at Reeds twice in two weeks which rarely happens since I love trying new places, but after that first trip, I knew I had to go back. My first visit was with two colleagues and we were sat upstairs, which I was fine with — there was more room up there, and it’s definitely a completely different atmosphere than downstairs. Our server was great! The bar was apparently quite backed up, so our drinks came out about 20 minutes after we ordered them, but the overall experience was so great I didn’t even care. Drink recommendations: –The Summer’s End: bourbon, amaro di angostura, clove-cinnamon, allspice syrup, lemon, and hot water. This is perfect for a cold winter night! –What She’s Having: plymouth gin, green chartreuse, cocchi Americano, lime, and sugar. –Anything from the massive wine list. I recommend a cocktail to start and moving to wine with your main course. Can you really lose that way? The servers are well-versed in all things booze so they’ll easily help you find what you’re looking for. Favorite menu items: –Barbacoa(I believe this is a seasonal special so it might not be around for long) –Roasted cauliflower(curried cauliflower purée? Yes please.) –Beer braised ribs(you’ll wish you got two orders of these) –Green beans(they’re beer battered so that’s enough of an explanation.) The star of my dining experiences at Reeds gets its own paragraph: The pork chop. All hail the pork chop. This beauty is served with sautéed greens, mushrooms, potato, caramelized onion, marsala cream, and black walnuts, and it’ll have you scheduling your next reservation while you’re still at the restaurant. It’s my favorite hearty dish in St. Louis right now and I can’t stop telling people about it. The second time I visited I sat downstairs, which was also lovely. The staff here is great and you can tell they feel valued — I love how they list out their entire team on their menu. You never see that. As you can tell, I really love this place. I can’t wait for trip number three!

I know a couple local magazines have been calling Reeds American Table best restaurant of 2015 and I’ve been itching to try it out. I went to Reeds with two coworkers using a Seat Me reservation. We went on a Wednesday night and the place was packed! We had to wait about 5 – 10 but they quickly got us a table ready upstairs. The main floor is pretty packed. They don’t do the communal table thing, thank god, but you might be dining close to other guests. The upstairs is AMAZING. It feels like you’re dining in a fancy living room. It’s a tasteful space that sets the mood for any occasion. For starters, we shared the breaded cauliflower, fried green beans, and Barbacoa. For my main meal I had their cheeseburger. Don’t judge me, I love fancy burgers. The fried green beans and cauliflower were my favorite out of the starters. My main meal was amazing. The meat was juicy/tender and it was served on a nice fresh bun. The fries were served with a decadent aioli that calmed my inner fat kid. And don’t worry, they serve craft cocktails. Right now they have a hot toddy drink served with honey and ginger. It’s sooooo goood. I hope to recreate it at home soon with some Marker’s Mark bourbon. If you’re looking for something else, you’ll find it. Their drink menu is expansive to say the least. Seriously, it’s massive. The staff was extremely friendly. There was a bit of delay getting our drinks out because the bar was so backed up but that was the only bump in the entire experience. Reeds is already my new place to impress friends looking for a quality meal.

Whew this newer restaurant brings it strrrrrrrrongg and is all around fantastic. Let me break it down a bit. We went on an unseasonably warm December weeknight and Reeds was packed to the gills. The downstairs has a cool, modern interior and a bit of noise to spare. Upstairs is a different story; it feels more like a really nice apartment, a bit more open and is more my speed. Our wait staff was friendly, although running a tad behind since it was so busy. Can’t blame them for that, I think they may’ve been surprised by how packed it could be on a random weeknight. Our table went all in and split some small plates; beer-battered green beans, roasted cauliflower, braised ribs and barbacoa to start. All were fantastic, with a nod to the green beans and cauliflower which I’ll reminisce about for weeks. We tried a couple cocktails as well, and I think the Summer’s End stole the show. It’s a toddy style spiced bourbon drink that would knock a cold right out of you. I ordered the Chicken Pot Pie for dinner because when those are made well, they’re pretty much the best winter food around. This one was killer. Great, flaky crust topped over huge chunks of fresh vegetables, chicken and a leek cream sauce that surprisingly wasn’t too heavy. We thought about playing Russian Roulette with the dessert menu, but naturally we were totally stuffed at that point. A nice spot in a cool neighborhood(new to me as I’m not from here) and I’d highly recommend checking them out!

Just had dinner here on a Friday evening and we had a pretty good meal. The highlights on the menu were definitely the cornbread(highly suggest ordering two orders if there are more than two of you dining), scallop risotto, and the beet salad. All were superb. I loved how you can taste the hint of bacon in the cornbread, the risotto was cooked to perfection as were the scallops and the beet salad was very tasty. The fries were fantastic too and exactly how I like them– shoe string and crispy! Unfortunately we ordered a side of fries but didn’t realize that a huge portion of fries also came with our burger. The burger wasn’t great. It came out well done when we had ordered medium rare, but seeing that it was the last dish to arrive, we didn’t want to send it back and wait for it. I wasn’t a fan of the beef cheek either as I didn’t find it very flavorful but the hubby loved it. As mentioned in previous reviews, the upstairs dining is very loud. Hard to hear and follow conversation but it looks like sound panels are on the way? There were a few minor issues with water glasses, timing of large plates, etc. but I’m leaving it down to the fact that there are always some kinks when a new restaurant opens. Overall, Reeds American Table is a welcome addition to Maplewood.
